Who am I to try and buck a trend?

  1. Following the cajoling of Ms Littlefish, here I am, introducing myself ridiculously late.

I joined the forum in August 2012 (yup, nearly 2 years ago) with zero intention of making games.  I only joined as it was another site where I could try out rpgmaker games.  That's all.  No other reason.  But over time I found myself thinking "I wonder if I could do that?"  So at the beginning of 2013 I launched myself at it and here I am still.  One game released, another almost finished.

I feel a slightly odd fish at times in this community.  I have never owned a console (I was a remarkably serious child, with no interest in video games) and it wasn't until about 5 years ago that I came across an rpgmaker game, played it, got hooked.  What this means, though, is that I have never, ever played any of the 'classics'.  You won't see me extolling the virtues of Chrono Trigger.  I wouldn't know a Final Fantasy if I found one floating in my soup.  All the references to so many of the 'canonical' games are lost on me.  But I get by.

I keep myself going by drinking green tea (not ordinary black tea, hate the stuff), though it has been known for a glass of fine wine to make me forget all about tea.  When I'm writing I can get through gallons of the stuff (tea, that is, not wine.  Wine is not good for clear writing!) and I think probably my writing is my strongest ability.  Mapping is coming along nicely, skills are getting really rather good, and I'm becoming much more proficient with graphics (though still a very long way to go)..  But scripts!  Ah, scripts.  I do not think my relationship with scripts will ever blossom into a deep and abiding friendship.

I enjoy the forum immensely, and have found so much help here.  I never expected it to be like this, having experienced some other sites.  Quite unique, in my opinion.

    So yeah, here I am.
  2. Damn, I'm really spreading a curse here, everyone are suddenly creating late introduction threads.

2 years?!? OMG and I was complaining about myself for being late...ahahahah

No seriously I'm just joking, It's never too late to do anything...that's for sure.

Welcome aboard ksjp17, enjoy your stay!
  3. One of us! One of us! Welcome to the forums, ksjp17!

I drink green tea a lot, too but I always accidentally overheat the water and make it go too bitter. While I've played quite a few games and most of them RPGs, I'm the same, I have quite a few gaps in what I've played.
  4. @Dalph

Of course you spread your curse.  That is your nature, is it not?

    @Ms Littlefish

Ah, another green tea aficionado!  There are too few of us around.

Thank you both for your welcome.  I'm sure, as Dalph says, that I will enjoy my stay.
  5. Welcome(even though you were probably here before me). ;)

I think that's very interesting that you don't have any of the 'classic' influences. Maybe I'll have to go check out undefeated now to see if that background produces a different kind of game. :)
  6. @Shion Kreth

I'd be interested in the answer to that question.
  7. Hmmm, a gallon of wine sure could make for some interesting reading, lol!

That's a very delicate way of putting it!
  9. Total non-gamer to gaming addict/maker? o_O

    Interesting switch!

    Keep on having fun! ^_^
  10. Greetings!  may green tea and wine keep your creativity ever flowing.
  11. Welcome aboard buddy. You'll fit in just fine here.

I think I've found that to be the case, indeed.
  13. Almost the same here. Although I'm close to my first year only.

Green tea is delicious. I loved it while in Japan, but it's not that common in France. They often mix it with mint which I don't like...

And I've almost never played a console RPG. I think I played the first dragon quest on an emulated PS1 several years ago and I'm not even sure it's this one.

I'm more used to western RPGs.

And I agree: this forum is of the best quality!
  14. Welcome to the forums ksjp17 :D

I almost feel like I've seen you around. Probably just me being silly though.

Anyway, have fun and good luck finishing your first game... >_>

    *hugs*
