I agree XP style is awesome, I'd love if the next RPG Maker give us back the XP style sprite and mapping, or at least we can choose which sprite we want and which mapping style we like(though I doubt they will do that).
-
My favorite type of sprites are the ones that blend with the rest of the imagery used - such as tilesets.
If I could have tiles that went with any sprite, I would probably choose the sprites made by Busted Ed or the default chibi sized RTP style sprites :) -
I prefer DS style.
-
XP sprites look like scarecrows to me in general, but I have seen some beautiful ones.
DS sprites look to me like game sprites - (duh) - I mean like a little side game you have to play to win something in your big game - type - game. They don't look like playable chars to me. They look like something from a handheld game or something. I think it's the nose. lol
Mack sprites have a kind of smoothness or something. I love them! But they simply don't have the complementary resources to make a resource hound happy.
Chibi heads are half their body. Let's face it - they are weird. But they work; they are prolific; they are well developed. I vote Chibi. -
XP for me. Followed by Mack (his sprites for VX, not the Looseleaf generator. I don't like those ^^; ), then DS ('cause they're adorable) and lastly the VX(Ace) style.
I also enjoy Kazuki/Kaduki and Lunarea's original template (the one found in the Zombie Survival Pack).
But yeah the RTP style in VX/Ace definitely the least. -
XP sprites for me as well, as well as the realistic-looking High Fantasy sprites. I'd say I generally prefer taller sprites to shorter sprites, because they look more realistic to me and hence makes immersion just that much easier. It's a personal preference really. Also I find the taller sprites easier to edit to make behaviour sprites out of for cutscenes or puzzles and stuff. With chibis it's harder to pull off complex behaviours without them looking strange.

I prefer the tile and a half sprites which is why all but my lower res tiles are going to be made for that size. If the animation were less quirky I think the sprites Redshrike made for LPC would be my favorite. Otherwise I think it's Lunarea's XP/Ace blended sprites. After that is pretty much any sprite made by Vexed, especially the tall DS ones.

I forgot to mention the PV Games sprites. Those are awesome too !
-
Mack sprites for me.
The XP ones are good too, but they look a little too thin for my taste. That being said, when I play an XP game it doesn't bother me.
Chibi sprites... I can't see them and take them seriously. I mean, you often play a badass character, with a badass faceset/bust and when you move this chibi sprite on the map, it feels like I'm moving a child.
In fact, the chibi sprites all look like children to me (let's not even mention the DS style). That can work very well though, if the setting is not too serious.
PVGames sprites look really good.
On screenshots.
The limitations of the engine make the walking animation terrible most of the time, unless you use some scripts to add more frames (and have the sprites frames drawn too)
With a proper walking animation, they are the best available. -
^That's exactly what I think. Chibis don't really fit in with the serious games or any games that are supposed to have a dark vibe to them. They fit with light-hearted games more. The game's art style has to match its emotional tone, and for games with serious/darker emotions, more realistic-looking sprites work better in my opinion.

Well if all XP sprites were as lovely as Slimm's I'd be an instant convert!XP for me.
Can you show me or pointing me out where I can find an example of Mack sprite for VX(not the Looseleaf)? All this time I just know that Mack sprite is like Looseleaf sprite, or have I missed something @@a ? Thanks slimXP for me.

Aww Granny, you're too kind :D
@BoluBolu: You probably just have never noticed the difference. Don't worry, lots of people don't. This is Mack's VX style. They're smaller both in width and height than the ones in the Looseleaf generator. -
hehe I prefer Katsuki Sprite!!
but I also love a little Slim sprite but I don't use them often XD
I also love Lunarea Sprite they are unique in is type look like so much skinny and adorable! -
You mean the Kaduki sprites?
-
haha you to do the error? is real name Is Katsuki xDYou mean the Kaduki sprites?
it is a translation error D: -
How odd. Google gives me nothing if I type in Katsuki sprites.
-
because it is not write in japanese but if you write it in japanese you will be ported to is main site
the fact is when you write kaduki this not port you on is main site ''sadly'' it will pop a lot of not sence page asking request of katsuki sprite or you need to search the site via is image
but sadly to much people use kaduki ....and not enough katsuki
but here the japanese ''way'' for write ''katsuki sprite'' 香月 (katsuki) スプライト (sprite) and it will port you to the main site it is the third link
so the true way for credit katsuki is
香月清人 Kiyoto katsuki -
To be exact, it should be かづき (kazuki)
The "du" in kaduki is one way of writing it in the kunrei style of romanization of japanese "letters", which is mostly used by Japanese themselves instead of Westerners (who mostly use the Hepburn style).
That was the cultural/linguistic message of the day. Thank you, have a nice day. :)
