What's your favorite type of sword?

I need a weapon for my game's main character. Futuristic swords (this means you, lightsabers) don't count. 

Katanas and broadswords are pretty cool. A rapier might suit them also, depending on personality and backstory.

The claymore. Longswords. Greatswords. Broadswords. Specifically ones from medieval Europe, and especially England. Zweihanders are also really cool. Bastard swords are also very cool.

I like those little pink ones they use for cocktails. 

I personally like sabers and cutlasses. They look nice, they were pretty deadly and pirates used them. Arrr.

Why does it have to be a sword?  Why not a large hammer or a feather duster?

Depends on the time period and context. A main contender would be rapiers. From an aesthetic standpoint, the smiths could get really creative with the guards. Also, I think rapier fencing looks fancy.



I like most famous swords really, but sabers stand out a little extra because of their design. I find the slight curvature of the blade pleasing. Modern saber fencing looks cool as well. I must add, that if I had to choose between a rapier or a saber in a duel, I would certainly pick the rapier. It has the reach advantage.

My favorite sword would be tied between a katana and a gunblade.

Rapier. Close, fast, precise, they are probably one of the more underrated types of swords. I however, love them, and don't like to use them and see them used. 

honestly I like the Zweihander who are a heavy weapon with really a beautiful style.

Definitely a fan of rapiers. I really like how those sword fights look so much like a dance and how intricate the designs can be. I also imagine thrusting to be a more efficient way to down a foe. 

i'm personally a fan of katanas, long swords (the broader type), greatswords, and a special type of thin sword.... its like a rapier type build but instead of being focused on thrusting its a its like a saber where is specializes in slashing..... (basicly a musketeer sword yet slightly broader..... cant think of the name off the top of my head....)


like this only broader...(slightly for more weight and damage but still allowing for the speedy strikes)

Mine would be the knightly sword, though I also like the Falchion.

A beautifully crafted yet simplistic shortsword.. or two..

The katana is my personal favorite.
