What is your main reason for making your own RPG style game?
Mine was, "I like how some of these are done but there are so many others that are crap. I have enough gaming experience over the years to know what I want to do and I bet I can make a balanced system that is not only balanced but fun no matter how you play it."
And because I like numbers.
And...that's still my reason. So far, I got something sweet working out. Back to eventing..
What was your main reason for making an RPG game?

because I like playing RPGs...
-
I've always wanted to make one after playing Final Fantasy III (VI) on the SNES.
I think almost immediately after that I started scribbling in notebooks and stuff like that on a potential story. -
For me it is about just finding away to express game and story ideas I have thought of and to hopefully have them enjoyed by others as well.
I also love role-playing games and being in the role of a developer of one makes me feel closer to all the things I like about them than I could by just playing them. -
Its just another creative outlet for me. I consider characterization and world-building my strongest points when it comes to game design, so what better way than to put it all together in an RPG?
-
I think for me the main reason is simply to express myself. I do a lot of creative writing and have written a few stories in the past, but what creative writing lacks is being able to express your ideas in a visual and audio format. Now taking an idea into a game form, and you can actually see and hear it exactly the way you can imagine it in your head.

I've always had a thing for NRPG's (or JRPG's for anyone who isn't me. XD) and as I play more and more of them I find myself saying "I like this feature, but not that one." So I decided to try my hand at making games I'd enjoy playing.
That and I do so love to do creative things. Drawing, writings, playing games like Minecraft and the like. Ish my bread and butter. :3 -
I've designed a lot of pen and paper RPGs, and my main reason for getting into those (as well as CRPGs) was the world building element. Basically, i've had a setting that's been chillin on my hard drive, not really getting much use in play. I want to bring it to life, but not as a story

RPG Maker series is a great way to build own stories with some gameplay.
Now on to one of many actual reason. I like story heavy RPG games like Final Fantasy series and thus I enjoy making them. -
I've always wanted to create my own personal story in an Rpg, more simple than that.
-
I've always dreamed of making games as a kid and, in my time, it didn't seem like an accessible goal. Not to mention the nuances that came with the Game Industry really discouraged me from joining. Then I found RPG Maker XP. It let me made games that I kind of like (though I'm honestly more interested in Action games or platformers), and it had a quick, easy learning curve. So I could now make my dreams a reality. :D

I was bored.
-
Several reasons.
I always liked creating my own stories. I used to draw comics and make videos with my friend. Making an interactive story, however, is even cooler than comics and videos.
I always liked the RPG genre. Games such as Pokémon and Golden Sun gave me the inspiration to start making my own game, with my own characters, monsters, story and world. -
My main reason is that I have so much freetime, having no job and all, and I need money, so why not make an RPG? It'll take awhile but that's time I have.
-
The stories in my head.
-
Because I like creating worlds, and I like for others to experience these worlds even more.

This is an especially interesting question for me, since although I've been playing video games all my life, RPGs have never been my favorite genre. About the only traditional JRPG I've played and finished is Super Mario RPG for the SNES. My favorite RPGs are more like action games with RPG elements - the Legend of Zelda series, recent Castlevania games, and (for the past few years) the Kingdom Hearts series. As is probably true for many people who have played a lot of video games, I've thought about creating my own for a long time. But for years that seemed damn near impossible. Programming mystifies me, and my artistic skills are limited to writing and mediocre drawing on paper.
I'd seen a few programs designed for creating video games, but RPG Maker was the only one that was intuitive enough for me to make any use of. I was excited to see IG Maker come out, but found that it didn't make nearly as much sense. So, I turned to making RPGs because that was the only genre I really had a chance at accomplishing something in. Now, there are some RPGs I would like to create, so it isn't too bad a deal, though I'll always wish that my magnum opus (as far as video games go) could be a 3D action RPG. Another draw when it comes to RPG Maker is that I can import material from the internet, and find communities like this one where I can find or even request new material.
To make a long story short, RPG Maker was the best I could do. -
Brag to my friends that I made a game
-
Because it's always been one of my many dreams. I grew up in the '90s, which I would consider the golden age of console RPGs (especially the Super Nintendo era). I played through some of the best stories of all time in those days. Really, it'd be more surprising if I never even bothered to try and make one.
Curiously, Dryantia started as an experiment/personal project. However, I released a limited demo to some friends who said that the game was pretty good, so I decided to actually keep going. So, here we are today: Me aiming to commercially release Part 1 and slowly working on Part 2 as time (and Shin Megami Tensei IV; oh god, why do you exist? Why you so fun?!) allows. :D
(Also, because I want to give something back to the industry that has given me so many good games. :) ) -
My future career choice is video game design and/or programming, and i'm currently working on my Associates Degree for Computer Science. Also for the same reason as you, CWells.
