  1. Hey guys I thought I would start a little thread for people to start sharing what tools they use when making their games. Not only tools, but where you find nice resources to use for commercial and non-commercial use. I am hoping this will help people make the game of their dreams. For this thread I will post tools, websites for resources, people that help with anything, learning materials such as books and videos, and much more. Alright time to start my list. I will add descriptions to all these later and give good examples of how they can be used. If anyone has anything I missed please help expand this list for every member to use.

  2. SumRndDud's videos on YouTube (it's close to what his name is) should be required viewing for anyone interested in making plugins for RPGMMV - no matter what your experience is with Javascript (I'm completely new to RPGM, but I've done web development for a long time now). RPGDon also has great tutorial videos on youtube for the interface side of RPGMMV.

Nobody should be using notepad. I don't want to sound confrontational, but there are just so many better options out there for free. Notepad++ is great though to have around if only for how versatile it is in opening file formats. I use Photoshop and Dreamweaver, but I also got those for free (and they're super old at this point - CS3). Otherwise, I wouldn't suggest those two to people. I'm a fan of Aptana, but Sublime Text is just really good. GIMP is a nice free alternative to Photoshop  - once you get the hang of it.

For team management, I love basecamp. It's not free though. If you're by yourself, I like just using Keep on my phone to track and organize tasks.
  3. I use REAPER for audio editing (not free). Paint.NET is a pretty good free Photoshop alternative, I've been using it since my grade school days. I use Sony Vegas for making my game trailers. Some other paint programs I use less frequently are Paint Tool SAI, FireAlpaca, Corel Painter, and MediBang. A free, open source alternative for the Microsoft Office suite is LibreOffice. For pixel art use GraphicsGale or even MS Paint.

I second @jdub87 , Sublime Text is really good. Other IDEs I use are IntelliJ and Eclipse. (I don't like Eclipse but we have to use it for school lol)

If I think of any more I'll let you know.

Thank you for the suggestions I added them with links to where you obtain or watch them find them.

  5. A combination of Photoshop, Manga Studio EX5 and GraphicsGale are the ultimate must-have graphic tools when it comes to drawing sprites/portraits.

Thank you for some more software ideas. I have put Manga Studio EX5 and Graphics Gale into the list.
  7. I've grown very, very fond of Aseprite, a tool for pixel art, over the last two years. I used to use GraphicsGale, and Aseprite won me over. It's no longer free, but the $10 I paid for it was well worth it.
  8. How bout Paint Tool Sai? It's a good software to create/modify your graphics.

    Or maybe Photoscape. :D

I never heard of photoscape. I think I will have to check it out. it seems interesting for a free tool. I added both of them to the list.

Thank you guys for helping increase the size of the list.
