Important notes: The archive contains RTP and the font that's used in the game. Having the right font is crucial, as most of the words might end up being cut from the screen. If there are any problems installing the font from the archive, please, download kristen-itc (ITCKRIST for short) font yourself. Only basic one is required. Also, finding RTP resourses for VXAce shouldn't pose a problem, anyway.
Also, please note: This game is mostly RTP, really. Because I'm managing the development alone, several handmade pictures and some slight photoshop skills is the only original content made by myself you'll find in the game. If you're not a fan of RTP styled tiles and characters (which is understandable as VXAce has been around for a long time), please, at least don't complain about it, since there's not much I can do at this stage of development.
P.S. I'm keeping tracks of the music, tilesets, sprites, scripts and etc. I'm using that are not made by me. The project was never intended to be commercial and never will be! Proper credits will be shown when the game's mostly finished. Right now all I can do is pointing where the resourses were taken from. Which I'll gladly do, if you ask.
"What is a Sunset?" What is this game about?
"What is a Sunset?" is a story about a girl named Sonte from an isolated country, who ran away to explore the world and find out about its inhabitants, cultures and, perhaps, save everybody from its troubles.
***
Everything started with a simple mistake, which changed Sonte's life around. Farkel, Sonte's hometown, is surrounded with mountains, the citizens never knew what a horizon is. Moreover, looking at the sun directly, as well as managing to see the sunrise or sunset, is considered a terrible taboo. It is believed that the person who saw the star in its weakest hours becomes cursed and brings nothing but destruction and death for everyone around him. Unfortunately for Sonte, that's what she saw. A sunset. Then, come again, why is she still alive and well?.. Were her ancestors mistaken?
The game was inspired by classic RPG/JRPG games and by various indie made RPGMaker games, including Zelda, Final Fantasy, Master of the Wind, Star Stealing Prince, Erayu and many others. They are my inspiration.
The story about a traveler, who left their home to explore and gather information about different cultures, was my project for art classes, but I never managed to finish it via animations and artwork. I decided making an adventure RPG will be a fitting way to finally make this story come live.
Main characters (as for demo v0.3)
Spoiler
Sonte Ivaran. The leader hero of the story. Her parents disappeared when she was very little, so she lived with her uncle, who trained her to be the Guardian - a honorable soldier who keeps his eyes on the mountains. During the Phoenix celebrations Sonte was given an important role to release the first bird into the skies. The occasion was necessary for her guardian position, however, it became lifechanging in its own ways. Nevertheless, Sonte is always the cheerful one, sometimes infantile, but brave and ready for whatever challenges awaiting her.
Skadi Winterleaf. Sonte's best friend. She has no relatives in Farkel, Skadi was found in the mountains lost and trembling and was brought to live with everybody. Since her childhood, she was always with Sonte, supporting her ambitions. Skadi is calm, never rushes to action. She specialises in medicine and herbs, spending her time reading books, growing plants and researching. Deep in her heart she wants to be more like Sonte and hopes that one day she'll find her happiness and a true place in this world.

The project requires testing and polishment. Most of these things are done by myself and my close friends. Neither me, nor them are experienced game developers. If you've noticed any inconsistencies, bugs, mistakes and such, please contact me right away!
