A font is very important in an RPG, since you will be reading alot of text. So, it has to be good and easy to read. What fonts do you use in your games?

I want to say "Comic Sans" for comedic effect, but...
Actually, the default font isn't half bad. And to be honest, working in printing, I have WAY too many fonts lying around, the licensing schemes for which I'm none too sure about. (Some fonts free for personal use, but not for commercial use, a metric crapton of fonts licensed for commercial use by my *employer*, but not for me to play with, et cetera...)
I can find a font that looks good and works with RPG Maker, but then find that it, too, can't be used unless I navigate through an expensive and kind of complicated license procuration maze... :p -
@Warpmind
Yup, the default one is actually pretty good and well suited for RPGs. And remember, kids, never use Comic Sans or Times New Roman. -
Why not Times New Roman?@Warpmind Yup, the default one is actually pretty good and well suited for RPGs. And remember, kids, never use Comic Sans or Times New Roman.
I like Palatino Linotype, which is somewhat similar. -
I used to like Cambria but I recently changed my mind and started using Constantia, it looks good, clean, perfectly legible, not squished (unless the text is too long) and it's already integrated with Windows. The default one is good but overused a lot and tbh I'm bored to see it in every rm game, a custom font makes the game look more unique and it's very easy to change. Here's an example of Constantia:

I use this font for my games. -
Naturally I use Time New roman and Arial for my text

I like to use native window fonts as well so there are no legal issues. Since I like writing a lot of window based scripts that handle info..I like fonts that are easy to read, but are also a bit more narrow then the default RPG Maker font. So I also use Calibri since it comes with all versions of Windows starting with Vista. I put Sylfaen as the other font for users that still run WinXP.

I used Day Roman in The Vendor
-
Are you feeling ok, that font isn't RTP ;)
I'm using a font called Free Pixel. I'm hoping is legible enough.

I like using Palatino Linotype when I want fancy looking text and Calibri when I just want readability.

I'm using a different type of font. A bitmap font that is not an actual TTF font file, but rather an image. Before you ask:
1. No, this is NOT sfont. Let me repeat that. This is not sfont!
2. The script was given to me in trade, so I won't be releasing it. If the original author wants to release it that's for them to decide (and don't ask me who it is, cuz I won't answer).
Anyway, here's what it looks like! (btw, I am not using Luna for this at all)

EDIT:
Also, for normal, TTF fonts, I use whatever I'm in the mood for. I check out dafont.com for various ones I can use. -
Oooooh! That's a neat thing. Sfont is pretty cool but doesn't support enough glyphs for my liking.
I'm a bit of a control freak and can never find exactly the font I want so I always end up making my own. Thankfully, most of the time this means pixel fonts. -
Yeah, the nice thing about the script I got is that you're allowed to put in any numbers, letters or glyphs you want to use and associate them to whatever you want in the image. If i want "a" to be "¬", I could do that. It really is pretty nice.

It's difficult to get the engine to render many fonts cleanly and legibly, particularly when you scale the screen up or don't want to use shadows or text outlines. I prefer SFont because of this, but in spite of that I've found the following fonts hold up in the engine when put against multiple rendering and display settings:
- November
- Lunchtime Doubly So
- West England
- Shylock NBP
That's some nice looking text! It's a shame that the person will remain anonymous, I'm very tempted to pay for a script that would be a viable alternative to SFont. :distrust: -
I normally use VL Gothic as of now... I've tried some windows fonts like Parchment in the past though. Might use something else from the default windows fonts in the next games.
-
Yeah, that font is my own design as well. Made each letter, number and symbol myself, pixel by pixel. Was a process, but well worth it. They said they MAY release it later on, but I'm not sure. That's some nice looking text! Does anyone have the problem with Constantia in which the arrows in the Equipment screen are question marks? By arrows I mean when it lists your current stat versus what it would become if you changed gear.

I've always been a big fan of Georgia when writing all my papers through school. I should try it out in RPG Maker but I got to say that I like the one Dalph posted, too.

Slightly off topic but I'd highly encourage ForeverZer0's Memory Font Loader script for XP... It offers the ability to throw all your fonts into a Fonts folder, just like Ace!

RMXP had this limitation that the Fonts to be used needed to be installed as System Fonts. I have seen a minor issue where fonts may not load if the game takes too long to fire up, but I suck with the WinAPI so the script might need some tweaks to ensure Fonts load. Better than the Auto Font Installer and definitely better than nothing!

I actually love the Komika Slick and Komika Slim TTF fonts! I found those when I tried out Wachungas Multiple Message Windows Script. They are very similar to Comic Sans, but I'd say these are way way more legible.
