  1. Hey community, I was wondering what you're favorite early childhood games were and why you favored them. For me personally, when I was 2 years I loved playing NES games such as Blaster Master, Snake Rattle and Roll, Super Mario Bros 3, Marble Madness, Dragon Warrior, Ultima Exodus, Defender of the Crown, RCProAM, The Guardian Legend, and the Legend of Zelda. Blaster Master was really unlike other games because you had to explore a massive land mass and find upgrades for you're vehicle, the cutscene with the frog eating radioactive material and jumping down a hole will be engraved in my brain for all of eternity. Snake Rattle and Roll was extremely fun with 2 players and had all kinds of hidden secrets that put out a lot of replay value. Super Mario Bros. 3 was and still is an amazing game, so many new features were added it was hard not to get excited when that game was released. Marble Madness was insanely hard as you progress but a unique game nevertheless. Dragon Warrior defined what Role Playing Games were back then, as well as Final Fantasy but I preferred and still do prefer the Dragon Warrior series. Ultima Exodus was another amazing rpg for it's time, had a unique combat system. Defender of the Crown I can remember playing before I was even literate, featured a strategy type game map consisting of different mini games where the player would engage in a civil war in England for the lost crown, it was a unique experience back then, but it was difficult to understand as a toddler. RCProAM was a great racing game where I would enjoy using my game genie to make all the computers cars drive in crazy circles. The Guardian Legend was and still is a rare gem in the NES Librarby, it featured a explorable world just like zelda but had combined shooting and rpg elements together. And finally, the Legend of Zelda. I remember watching my grandparents play this game so much that a spot on the television screen would stay blue for a couple of hours. I was so mesmerized by the game, I remember beating Ganon for the first time and then having the option to start a new more difficult quest, the Legend of Zelda was just overwhelmingly awesome and built the foundation for a lot of future games.
  2. Q-Bert is one of my favorites still. Sonic is also one of my favorites. I still have vague memories of playing those at my grandmother's house while waiting for my mom to pick me up.

Dragon Force and Tomb Raider are also a couple of favorites. Golden Eye, I loved playing multiplayer when it was local. Playing with my brothers, cousins and neighbors was always a good time. Sometimes we'd play with all proximity mines and I would dominate using strategy :D My cousin and I also beat Perfect Dark together.

My childhood was filled with so many different games, but I think those are my favorites. I didn't really get into RPGs until the Playstation era. My first time playing one was a demo for Final Fantasy 8, but I ultimately played the full game of Final Fantasy 7 first. 8 happens to be my favorite though. So I think those are all of my favorite games.
  3. A few of my favorite Sega Genesis games were Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Spinball, and Roadrash. Sonic the Hedgehog was a fun experience, you were able to run really fast across the screen (Which could be fatal at times) and spin around all those loops. There were lot's of secrets to discover and each stage had a unique feel to it. Sonic Spinball was a fun pinball game for me until I reached level 2 where I would just get annihilated by lava over and over again. Then there was Road Rash where you ride a motorcycle and street race other bikers while bashing them off their bikes with weapons to compete for contest money. Those were fun Sega Genesis times.
  4. I have a ton of early childhood favorites, but Command & Conquer and its prequel, Red Alert will always hold a special place in my heart.

  5. Link's Awakening

    Marin, my first waifu~
  6. Super Mario bros for sure. I played pacman as well, but that one I didn't like it as much (you see, I owned a very old video game console).

I loved the legend of Zelda and enjoyed Mortal Kombat a lot.
  7. back then until now, it is still Harvest Moon Back to Nature
  8. Super Mario World, Super Mario 3, Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2, Aladdin. Sidescrollers were the only games I knew when I was young.
  9. How could I forget Donkey Kong and Mortal Kombat??? Those are on my list of favorites too.
  10. Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Sam and Max, Indiana Jones (Lucas Arts made great adventure games, okay?), Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Zelda, Kirby Super Star, Commander Keen. . . . If you open the list up to the games I didn't enjoy playing myself but loved watching my brothers play the list gets a little ridiculously big. I owned very few of those games but was lucky enough to know people who did who'd let me borrow them.

Edit: Oh, and Myst! That one was a favorite too! I definitely have favorite genres.
  11. Actually, I want to mention this really obscure game that I absolutely LOVED. It appears to go by two different names on the internet, but my copy was called The Worlds of Billy. It's alternate name is Drilling Billy and it's a PC game from 1997. It still has a website where I think you can still download the game: http://drillingbilly.com/

    So much nostalgia  :D
  12. I remember playing a ton of Streets of Rage and Golden Axe on the Sega Genesis with my brothers. Most of my early childhood gaming memories were on the Genesis, I loved Shinobi 3 and Vectorman especially.

Man, in my head, that game had much nicer graphics than that...

On the subject, early childhood, probably the Dragon Quest (back when it was Dragon Warrior in the US) series and the Wizardry series were my favorites. Then Phantasy Star and Shining Force on the Genesis.

And since I did quote the picture of it, I was a big C&C fan early on on the series.
  14. Sonic the Hedgehog, Maximum Carnage(Spiderman) and and especially Tiny Toons Adventures on the Sega Megadrive 2. I remember playing these games over and over to the point that I could speed run them without dying(most of the time).
  15. I grew up in the SNES generation. If I had to name a favorite, it's probably 50:50 between Yoshi's Island and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

I remember playing Kirby Superstar and TMNT: Turtles in Time on 2-player co-op with my sister. Our standard strategy on bosses was her hiding in a corner while I did most of the work.

When I had friends over, we'd whip out Super Tennis or Super Mario Kart and go head-to-head for hours.
  16. Started on the NES and PC back in 87ish when I was about 5 years old.  Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt were my first games, then Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest) I and Final Fantasy I were shortly after (I think there were some games between them but thery weren't as memorable.  Then got into some first person dungeon crawlers on PC like the Wizardry, Might & Magic, and Bards Tale series.  Good games and good times and I still go back occasionally.
  17. You cannot beat Sonic 2, Mario World, and Yoshi's island when it came to classic platforming. I played those games to death back in the days. (Which is really only ten years ago)

Oh, and though we had an atari, it was stuck in the attic all the time. My favs when I did play it though was Mario bros and Spiderman.
  18. Freddi Fish, because that came with the computer back then.

I dunno, I still to this day think the graphics hold up, but to be fair it is impossible for me to criticize Westwood's games.

I think I'd have to rephrase, they look fine, I just don't remember it being so pixelated. Like in my head I forget how old the original C&C was.
