Using VX Ace Charsets in RPG Maker XP

  1. I've been looking for a while, but I have NO idea how to use my sprites without changing them to 4-frames like XP does. I want to use VX ace charsets but not going through all the fuss of modifying every character set.

Apparently it only supports single char strips (like the ones we use $Name) so I guess I can cope with changing my chars to single strips, but there must be a script, a line in the code I can change to modify the behaviour.

    Any help?

I decided to switch because Im bad at parallaxing and RPG maker XP is more mapping friendly for neebs like myself.
  2. So what you're saying is that converting Ace sprites to XP is a pain because you don't want to modify every sprite you'll be using so you're hoping to find a script?  Wouldn't that be a script request?

If you have Photoshop, you could set up an action to convert them with a simple key press.  I think it's called "scripts" in GIMP but I'm not familiar with it and I don't think they work exactly the same.
  3. The new Game Character Hub has the facility for converting sprites.  I haven't tried that aspect myself, but assuming it works, that would probably be faster than anything else.

    EDIT

I was curious, so I've just tried it.  It gives you the proper 4 column animation layout that you need.  Obviously the sprite is still the chibi one, not the taller XP one.  It took seconds, so yes, I reckon this has to be the quickest way.
  4. Thanks ksjp17, that seems the more feasible solution.

This thread is imo ready for closing if a mod thinks its appropriate, thank you both
  5. Back to your idea of using a script:

There are some Ace-Scripts that allow you to change the number of pictures in a sprite animation (for example, to use the more fluent 8-picture-Versions of the HF-Packs), but that is NOT changing a simple line in the engine.

I do not know if similiar scripts exist for XP - there might be, or maybe not. But you'll need a full script to achieve that, it is not a simple change as it needs to affect a lot in the display variants.

If you cannot find such a script fast, it would be really better to just change the sprite pictures, either manually (copy the center column) or automatically (by whatever program you own).

This thread is being closed, due to being solved. If for some reason you would like this thread re-opened, please report this post and leave a message why. Thank you.
