  1. Hi, I have been watching youtube videos to learn about MV but can't seem to find a video that says you can use your own art (characters, objects etc), i don't want to just customize what's there i want to use something i created...is this posible in MV? If yes is there a tutorial on this? if not do any of the other software here give this option? I have downloaded a trial so if i need to change i haven't brought yet so it's not too late. Thanks.
  2. All of the PC RPGmakers allow you to use your own custom made resources, MV included.

MV's helpfile has a section called asset standards that will tell you the different sizes and restrictions you need to keep in mind when making custom graphics and resources. To put them in your game, you just need to save them in the proper folders.
  3. @Makio-Kuta Hi, Thanks for the reply. When you say "PC" are you referring to a windows computer? Is it different for mac? When i finish the trial i will be buying to use on a mac...there is no trial for mac so i'm using the windows version to trial on a pc.
  4. Oh! I just meant computer compared to say the console ones. (Because I dont know the console version's terms) It'll be the same for the mac version of MV. No worries there!

(wha I keep forgetting there's a mac rpgmaker now haha)
  5. @Makio-Kuta Hi, ok, cool. I was just playing around with the software with the built in stuff and so far i'm really impressed. If i can ask this without starting a new thread since it relates to what you said...how do i find the proper folders on the pc? Is it just the folders inside the unzipped folder i downloaded to install the software..? I don't want to go changing things without making sure first in case i mess things up..Thanks.
  6. just open your own project folder, there will be some folder like sprites, script, tileset ,music, etc. Put your art there, so you can use it in game
  7. Like Alvonso said, you're going to want to add the files to your game folder, not the main program's folder.

When you start a new project, the program will create a folder somewhere on your computer. (my computer defaults it in 'Documents->Games' but I can't guarantee that's the same on ever computer, and especially don't know on a mac) The game folder will be named whatever you called your game and contain something close to this:

THESE are the folders you should familiarize yourself with. This is all the files within your game. For adding custom art, you would be sticking in the 'img' folder (which is further divided into even more folders) But it's good to learn what the other folders are for as well.

The only thing you'll ever need to worry about changing in the main program's folders is if you wanted to add or change parts to the generator. I know there's a video tutorial on the website somewhere how to do that if you are interested down the road. I don't have the link for it, but you can probably easily search for it. But other than that, you don't want to be messing with files in the program itself.

    I hope this helps!
  8. Thanks both of you for the help.

@Makio-Kuta It was very kind of you to write all that out, I just purchased the software through steam...I'm excited to get to making a game (or at least trying)!
  9. No problem! Don't hesitate to ask questions around here, this is a very helpful and positive community. Best of luck with whatever you decide to create!
