Tutorial Town
I had to find a fixed copy of your game on your page since the originals were deleted. Most likely years ago. Anyway…
I know this is just a simple tutorial game.
StoryDespite its name (Tutorial Town) I’m not really learning anything there that wasn’t explained in the intro. There were a few funny parts. Seems a bit sexist depending on what sex you pick. You play as a girl and the father says,” Daughter you are perfect.” Play as a boy and the dad says,” You need to work hard.” I’m paraphrasing of course. This is mostly a save the princess kinda game. Parents seem completely uninterested in saving their baby daughter. The dad doesn’t even give ‘I took an arrow to the knee’ excuse. And I guess if their first child dies in the process of saving her….well they can always have more kids. If the King wants to strengthen security maybe he should have bodyguards. Guess I can see why the King isn’t sending anyone with me to stop the demon. He only has 3 guards. The game never explains why they need a bratty kid sister for a demon summoning. It's disturbing that this little diaper head has an adult woman’s scream. Maybe she is already possessed by a demon? I would dunk that kid in a bath full of holy water before I took her home.
Character ClassWhen choosing the class of the character at the start of the game it gives you lots of options. But ultimately it doesn’t really matter what class the player chooses. Your character starts with no skills or magic. It’s not until lvl 5 you get one skill. By then you are halfway through the game. Then I got a second skill right before the last boss. I was playing a thief with plate armor. But it all evens out because I couldn’t use a shield.
DUNGEON MAPS & OVERWORLDNot much to say about the dungeon maps. They are pretty simple and small. They have a few treasure chests in them to give the player a reason to explore. It’s impossible to get lost in them. You can see the enemies on the map so you can fight or avoid them (Usually) if you wish.
The Encounter rate on the Overworld map is too high. After one battle I took 3 steps and immediately got caught in another battle. There is a hermit’s tower that is just there for some reason. There is a ruined tower on the Northern part of the Overworld map that you can’t interact with. One place is called ‘Goblin Cave.’ But it’s filled with orcs. There are places that look like holes in the wall. But don’t go anywhere.
COMBAT SYSTEMThere isn’t much to say about it. You can just press the Space Bar or Enter key for a basic attack. Over and over again. So it gets repetitive after a while. Or you can run away and lose gold. Thankfully losing gold only happens in the first forest level. At lvl 5 you will get one skill. And probably finish the game before you get another. I think there was a missed chance in the orc fight. Where the Character could have given some advice like, ”I should use guard when he uses counter stance so he doesn’t counterattack me.”
TOWNSAlthough the developer went to great lengths to furnish the homes and other buildings there really isn’t any reason for the player to do more than give it a passing glance for NPCs. Since there are no items to find. Just 5 gold in the player’s home. Which will give the player false hope of finding other stuff. There might be books to read on a shelf. Or dressers to look through but nothing you can use. It’s all just flavoring. There is nothing to find outside the building either. With the exception of a Side Quest. There is a clock that keeps track of the time and a calendar that keeps track of the day. It is neat but otherwise has no real purpose. A few NPCs will give you Side Quests, And one of the Side Quest you must complete to finish the game. Which is strange. One pet peeve I have is buildings with no doors. It irks me. Looking at the game files I see that I actually missed some NPCs. Because there was no reward for exploring.
CASTLESThe one and only Castle gives you a reason to check the books in the library to find a spell scroll. But that is the only room with books you can interact with. I’d bet most players stopped looking for items by then. For a giant castle, it only has three guards. All 3 at the front of the castle. It has more people cleaning it than guarding it.
PUZZLESThe boulder blocking the path in the Big Bad Dungeon had me stumped for a little while until I remembered a side quest I skipped. The teleporting puzzle is annoying with no key to solving it. So I’m just gonna delete a few of them to save me a headache. It is not fun. It was nearly impossible to find the exit after the arrow puzzle.
BUGS AND GLITCHESThe Boulder moving puzzle with the button is bugged. I moved the boulder onto the button but I am blocked by an invisible wall when I try to enter the unblocked passageway. So I’m just gonna delete it. The arrow keys leading to one of the chests were bugged. It keeps launching you back to where you jumped from. So I fixed that by increasing the jump number from 6 to 7. You have a blank dialogue in the castle library. There are maids in the castle that don't interact with the player. The bridge is fixed? But I can't cross it. This Earth’s Embrace amulet doesn’t seem to work as I get stun locked to death by 2 jellyfish. So I just went into the game files and made an event that gave me some jamfish liver for a Side Quest. Typo in Strange Trinket.
ENEMIESThe whole starting forest level is way too hard. The bats can blind you. And since you start with no magic or skills it just forces you to run away or die. Meanwhile, the bats are still on the map chasing you. These hornets have way too much health. Each one takes about 3 hits to kill and they poison you. The enemies should be two hits at the max. Running into 3 takes 9 hits. And that is if you don’t miss them. Having to fight an enemy that has poison at the start of the game is also way too soon. I had to avoid most enemies. I use up 2 potions fighting the orc. Was I supposed to buy an Ice Scroll for the Orc Minion?
I personally have a rating system on aliments. From weakest to strongest. 1. Stun. 2. Confuse. 3. Sleep. 4. Blind. 5. Poison. 6. Silence. 7. Paralysis 8. Petrify. 9. Death. The final boss took 3 hits to kill. So as much as a hornet while I was at lvl 10.
Side QuestsThe green-haired kid still tells me not to lose the box after I already delivered it.
