Turn-based battle elements

  1. Basic RPG battle & levelling added to VN Maker:
    • This feature, I would like to add turn-based battle as an option to VN Maker. There are many games out there now that are VN/RPG hybrid. As seen below, it goes from battle to visual novel.

    Mockups:
It will add the usual RPG turn based battles as an option in VNMaker

    Why is this feature good?
    • I believe many people who aren't interested in the pixel sprite style of RPGM would be interested in something like this
    • It would make VNMaker stand out among all the other VN creating software
    • It's a niche that creators currently don't have easy access to
    • There is a market for it, including games like Huntsman: Winters Curse, Loren Amazon Princess, Lsistrata, Karma Sutra, Mizari loves company, Antagonist, etc
    • To do this in your own projects is extremely time consuming and requires coding knowledge
    • A lot of this data already exists in RPGMaker, could be transferred over
    • Adds a different style of game that can be achieved with VNM
    • No more navigating the same grass green pixel maps, no more icky sprites that plague the turn based genre

    Possible issues with this feature?
    • Work Work Work Work Work
    • It is achievable with RPGMakers, though it's chaos if you want something professional looking
I GET IT. I understand how battles might defeat the purpose of it being a Visual Novel, and how VN purists might not be happy with added inventory systems etc. Sure some people might say "just download ABC for RPGMaker" though everything I've tried has been super clunky, looking terrible sloppy, and different image sizes create chaos in RPGM.

As Canini said in his post for adding an inventory system, many people who buy VNMaker do so because they are usually fairly new at game development and would appreciate a simple system that doesn't require hours of code.

I am new user and this request looks very reasonable to me. I'd appreciate considering.
  3. Yeah I do sometimes find it stressful when people automatically point to RPG Maker when you want a certain feature, but I get it. I do enjoy RPG Maker, but for different reasons. If I wanted something like the example above I would think of VNMaker over RPGMaker.

I don't know if it would need to be an actual feature for VNMaker, but maybe a DLC or maybe a detailed guide for something like this or guides for parts that could be used toward making this.

Overall, I find thinking about these kind of features so exciting.
  4. It takes a lot of time and effort, but VNMaker is already capable of doing that. You can already make your own turn based combat system. In the end it all comes down to pictures and variables ;)
  5. Yes that would be something I would look forward too as well. I already own all RPGMakers released so far and all of them are nice for top down view games, but for a much better first person or front view experience, I think Visual Novel Maker would really benefit from having at least a light rpg element element to it, this would be such a time saver for some of us.
  6. Even a really simple (but somewhat open ended and flexible) battle system would make a big difference. It doesn’t need to have all the bells and whistles that RPG maker has, but if it had the basics and left the door open for users to add such things themselves that could be nice. Still a lot better than eventing or coding this from the ground up yourself.

It’s also a big enough feature that I think it could be sold as a seperate Tool (dlc) much like MADO , GENE etc is for MV. And in that case the devs would get some money for their work too.
  7. Not for my current project, but I'd really love to see a dedicated set of commands for RPG battles. Mainly because Visual Novels and RPG's are becoming quite entangled lately...
  8. Personally, I feel like implementing VN in the RPG Maker engine is easier than implementing a battle system in the VN maker. If you can make the necessary graphics for it, then you can pretty much make your RPG maker game look like a VN.
