triggering an event by stepping in a different area?

  1. This may be a newb question because that's what I am but the setup I have is rows of steps leading to the top with two guards stood either side at the bottom. I want for one of them to turn around and start speaking to the player when they touch the bottom row of the steps. BTW I have looked for the answer already but couldn't find anything for this situation.
  2. Who is "they"? Is it the player reaching the bottom of the steps that triggers the guard to turn around?

Use an event with no graphic, set to Below Characters, with Player Touch as the trigger, at the bottom of the steps. Add commands to Set Move Route (choose the guard) to turn to the player. At the end of the event, turn on a self switch. Then add a second event page and set that self switch as the trigger (so it won't happen every time you walk over that spot).

How did you search for this already? It's a pretty basic thing, so I'm surprised you didn't come up with anything (unless you used Google, or just not very good search terms on the forum). Check out our Tutorials forum for a number of beginner tutorials - should cover this as well as a lot of other basic stuff to get you going in the right direction :)

Thank you, I didn't realize you could use that feature for other events >.<. I don't think the search terms I used were very good because I didn't really know how to word the question.
