Hello and good morning! I am using tabs D and E for my tile sets. I am using rural building tiles to make houses with D tab. When I finish the house I have to switch the tile set in D to farm tiles. When I switch the tile set my house and anything used with the old tile set is gone. Surely it doesnt want me to keep the tile set up all the time for the tiles I have used. I have tried saving and then switching tiles also. It all goes away or is replaced with tiles from the new tile set I have selected. My mind is troubled. Anyone with help is a friend indeed! Thank you very much!

I could be wrong--but to me it sounds like you're switching out the tiles in the tileset menu.
What I mean is--it sounds like you're going into the tilesets menu and going to a particular tile set and switching the tiles there every time.
If that's the case--you don't have to do that, in fact--you shouldn't do that. Whenever you do change the tileset in the tileset menu, it updates and changes, so anything you did before, will change if the original tiles are no longer present.
So, if you build a house and change the tiles to something else, it'll turn into trees or something; depending on what the tilesets have set in that particular range.
If this is what you're doing--try instead to create a tileset with all the tiles you wish to use. That way, you wouldn't have to switch them out, again because if you do--it will change everything. -
Hi and thanks for quick response. Cool to see a local by the way. I live close to dallas. That is exactly what I am doing thow. How can I change the tile set with out geting rid of it each time? Some times I only need 1 item from a tile set and wont use it again.

Nice to meet'cha, fellow Texan!
Well--there's a few things you can do; some might be tougher than others.
Easiest thing to do is to set up your tiles with what you know you'll need; yeah, I get'cha when you say you might only need 1 item from a tileset, and it can be a pain when everything else goes unused. However; this is the easiest and best way to get your tiles set up. Remember, when you do this, name it something you'll remember (like by town name for instance) so you'll know exactly what it is when you see it. This tileset will be the primary tileset for the map you're creating; therefore, don't change it in the tileset menu, or same thing's gonna happen.
One thing you can try--is if you're familiar with programs like GIMP or Photoshop, you can bring up the tileset that has that one piece you want, set the grid (48x48.) Then open up a tileset that you'll also be using and set that to 48x48. What you'll do is copy the pieces you want (for simplicity, lets say it's a tree that is a 4x4 square entity.)
On the second tileset, you'll try to find some room where you can paste that tile piece. If there isn't any room, you might have to delete a portion of that tileset and paste what you copied in its place. It would have to be square and flush in order to get it to fit squarely into RMMV. Remember to save the newly created tileset with a different name, so's not to overwrite the base tileset.
When you finish, you load it up into RMMV's Tileset folder (in your game's folder; the folder where your game is being kept--not the RMMV main folder) it'll be there with the new tree, or whatever the entity may be. This might sound hard--but really it's real simple, am just not much for explaining things too well.
There are also plugins and other various things you could use; things for parallax mapping or something called "Yanfly's Doodads" which allows you to place items on a map instead of using map tiles. Though explaining these would be beyond my ability. -
Sorry I didnt see the last part of your messege on my phone earlier. I'm on my computer now. Is the a program I could use to take the tiles I want to use and put them into a new tile set? I purchased a lot of tile sets from the website here and I wont even be able to use a fraction of them at this rate. Some of the tile sets I purchased only have 1 image on them as well. Like 1 section of a fence... lol a lot of wasted space. I saw on youtube once a guy was puting some of his tile sets together so there was no empty space in his tile window. I cant remember the video now thow.

Yup! That's what you can do. Use a photo editing program (not sure the true name, am fallin' asleep also--basically something like GIMP or Photoshop.)
With those programs--you can create your own tilesets, by copy and pasting them into the regions, just gotta remember to set grids and lock them if you can to keep them straight and flush. 48x48.
GIMP is a free program, totally recommend it, it's what I use. My girl uses Photoshop (bless her heart) but they both do the same thing.
Even if you're not keen to using programs like that, it's really not difficult. Try to find that video again, or other similar ones for a better tutorial than I could give. -
Gothcha! Im sure I can find a video now that I know what they were using. I'm always seen gimp and photoshop videos. I usualy look past as they are usualy talking about making custom tile sets wich I am not ready for quite yet. I c how it would work for this though. I apreciate all the help. Now go get some rest and dont stay up so late! My day is just starting. I get up early so the town is empty. Its like it was made just for me. I like to go run in the mornings. Have a good day!!
-
Man--am like you, only the opposite. I work nights and I exercise soon as I get off work. My day starts when you're probably havin' lunch :p
Good luck to ya, reckon others on here would be better help, but don't hesitate to ask if ya need anythin'. Take care! -
perhaps an explanation of the basics would help you both.
A tileset is defined in the database and consists of up to 9 tilesheets.
These tilesheets are available in six different formats, with the formats named after the slots they need to be placed in: A1 to A5 and B-E as the sixth format.
Each tilesheet consists of a fixed number of different tiles, and you can only replace a tile with another of the same type (using GIMP or any other image program).
Tiles from the A1 to A5 sheets will go into the lower map layer on placing, tiles from any of the B-E tilesheets will go into the two upper map layers.
Tiles in the map are stored as numbers pointing to positions in the tileset. Because of that, any change in tileset definition will change all maps that use that single tileset.
If you want to make another map with a modified tileset without changing older maps, then you need to first make a new tileset in the database (using change maximum button to add more tilesets) and then point the new map to the new tileset that contains the changed tilesheets. -
Yeah--that helps. I mean--I know how to do it hee hee... just not how to explain it.
Though this helps. Danke schön. -
I made a tutorial for Ace on combining tiles in Gimp. It applies the same for MV, but the grid size would be 48 x 48 instead of 32 x 32 and a B-E tilesheet in MV is, I believe, 768 x 768.

Man.. All this info. I'm defenitly in the right place. Thanks for all the help guys. I'l be working on this in the morning and I will get it figured out. Anyone have a good reason why gimp or photoshop is better than the other? If not I will just watch a couple reviews on youtube before picking 1. No bigy.
-
Well, one big difference is that Gimp is free, Photoshop is not.
-
well..... gimp it is.. but I dont mind paying if it is better. I just need a quick fix at the moment. Im looking for a long term solution and realy want the best experience. I can eat ramen noodles a lil more often I supose if needed. Ive already spent quite a bit on tiles. With the power of ramen noodles and daily fiber supplement my game will see the light of day!

I think you'll find people prefer one or the other because they've used that one for so long. I'm not aware of too much (that you'd want to use for RPG Maker) that one would have that the other wouldn't.
If you could find people who were used to one, and switched to the other, you might be in a good position to find out why they thought it was better, but other than that, it's just what you personally find easier to use.
Photoshop, I believe, is only available on a subscription, and if you cancel it, you have to still pay a fee for the remainder that you're not using (I think it's half of what would be left). Try the free one first, and if you don't like it, see if you can get a trial for Creative Cloud. -
Now that I'm not on my phone and don't mind typing more, I think Shaz summed it up well with it largely being what you are used to.
I started doing RM stuff with Gimp, because it was free. I did a trial of Photoshop, and felt frustrated because I was used to knowing how Gimp worked and therefore, it worked better for me. Perhaps I just needed some paitence?
However, I have found for most of my RM needs, Gimp is plenty sufficient. But, I'm not an artist needing vectors or anything.
I think @Sharm made the switch from Photoshop to Gimp and other free programs, so she may have some insight. -
Thanks to all you guys I got a full understand and just wanted to give little update in case someone googles with same problem and reads all this. I originaly thought I could change tile as much as I wanted. Once the object is on screen I could change tile sets. When I found out you couldnt get rid of that image in you tile set window (I call it window because I dont know what its called) I thought I would have to create all new custom tile set windows and plan everything out because I couldnt change them for the rest of the game. Now I understand that all I have to do is create a new map and I will be able to use different tile sets on that map. The answer was so simple. Its easy to get trapped into seen a problem from only 1 angle. Problems like this can make me pull my hair out and be such a small misunderstanding of its workings that when I figure out how easy it was its cringe worthy. lol

@gamingfamilyman you need to report your post for it to be closed, changing the title does nothing to it.
