  1. Hello my name is Card Wielder, or CW for short.

I have been interested in RPGs every since a friend of mine introduced me to the Persona series. Recently I decided that I would like to produce my own games and as such I started development of my main game, Card Wielder, utilising the RPG Maker VXAce program. One early problem with this plan was that I had no experience with the program and as such I quickly encountered a variety of problems. As such I decided that I would postpone the development of Card Wielder until my skills improved, so I decided to create smaller, simpler games using the engine, utilising only a few new features at a time, but making sure to eventually use all of the features I planned to use within Card Wielder. This gave birth to the sort of prequel series to Card Wielder:

    The Wielder Chronicles

The Wielder Chronicles would be a series of stories set within the same universe as Card Wielder, telling the events of several background NPCs of Card Wielder and the events that led up to those planned in Card Wielder. Within Card Wielder both Earth and the Outer Shell, a parallel version of Earth where magic excelled instead of science, are linked because of the actions of the Voidlings, a species of creature that feeds on the negatives thoughts of 'lesser beings', such as Earth's Humans and the Outer Shell's Hoomons. These Voidlings home world, The Void, has fused itself with both Earth and the Outer Shell, allowing for the Voidlings to absorb the dark thoughts from both worlds, eventually granting them the power to traverse to both worlds and conquer them.

The first game I have planned for The Wielder Chronicles is The First Wielder, a story set 17 years before the start of the events in Card Wielder. Told from the point of view of two young Hoomuns, Zach and Myra, as the first Voidling attack takes place within their small village. The two young heroes must work together to save their village, as encountering the arrival and leave of the first wielder from Earth, a human with the potential to use magic as more than just a tool, but as a weapon if necessary.

Zach is the main damage dealer of the pair as his father trained him how to use a sword and a bow, as well as some hunting skills. Now that his father is dead by the hands of an unknown monster, Zach plans to fill in his position as the village hunter once he reaches the age of 18.

Myra on the other hand is the pairs main healer as she has been locked away within her father's home ever since she was born. Her mother died during childbirth and her father blames Myra for causing her mother's death. Myra was able to read most of the books within her father's library, until she came across the book that told her all about magic. Through this book she was able to teach herself simple healing magic.

I plan on updating this forum on the progress of my game every Saturday, same as my blog. The address of my blog is:

    http://thewielders.blogspot.co.uk/

My blog contains some more information about my game, as well as the little bit of progress I had made on Card Wielder. It also has the screenshots of the that I have showing off some of the game.

Thank you guys for reading this and I hope you enjoy both myself as a game creator, as well as my games.

  2. Well, it's Saturday, and like I said here is the weekly update from me, CW.

For this week I planned on getting all of the maps linked to the starting village completed. Even with distractions from a couple of classic games, (Freedom Force and Persona 4) I have been able to achieve this goal! The screenshots for these maps are viewable on my blog, the link of which is shown in the first post.

Another thing that I was able to do accomplish of the week was changing some of the features within my game, this included updating the character stats of both Zach and Myra to make them about equal in strength to the stats planned for the characters within Card Wielder. I also added a small feature to the game, but I will not reveal this to you, you'll have to find/figure it out on your own.

Well, that's about it for this update. Hopefully next week I might be able to release a playable demo, but we'll see. Well, speak to you guys again next Saturday.

  3. Hello there everyone, CW here again for my weekly update.

Sadly this week I wasn't able to reach my goal. This is due to the amount of events, and the processes for those events, that I need for the game. Thankfully I have been able to create all of the minor events within the first section of the game, as well as the events related to the first quest.

I have also utilised the background features of the game to create my first stackable effect, Bleeding. Bleeding cause minor damage over time, but since it can stack unlike most of the other effects in the game, it can start to deal more and more damage over time. Since I didn't want to modify the skills used by the characters in the game to utilise this new state, I have made it that Zach's sword has a small chance to cause this effect every time it is used.

Well, that's about it for this weeks update, hopefully I'll of done considerably more work by next week.

  4. Hello again, Card Wielder here.

For this week I have not been able to get much work done on The First Wielder, mainly because of my university application and the processes linked to it. Now hopefully I should be able to get a lot of work done on the game over the course of the next week, we'll see.

Well I know it's only a small update, but I thought I should at least post what progress, no matter how small, I have made on the game. I'll speak to you guys again next Saturday, hopefully with a bigger update than this one and last weeks.

  5. Hi Card Wielder, i recently visited your blog and i can say that you have some very nice mapping skills, they look a lttle simple but still pretty easy to the eye :D . I think that you should add some of those maps and screenshots of the game if you have here so people get interested in your game, a Little more of information and features too if possible.

    Regards :D
  6. Hello everyone, Card Wielder here again,

Thanks to Cygnus for letting me know what he thought of my game so far, I will always appreciate any constructive feedback from my audience. Once I have some more screenshots to upload I do plan on uploading them here, however at the current moment in time I have had to focus my time on work, personal business and my financial situation, so as such I have not had much time to work on TWC. However, since I plan on moving into my university accommodation soon I do plan to try and make some time that I will use to exclusively work on TWC.

However, I would like to ask you guys about ideas for some potential monsters within the game, as this is one thing that I am currently stuck on. I know how to progress the story throughout my game, however I cannot think of any monsters for the first areas of my game that are set within a forest, except for the usual wolves and giant spiders. As such, I would appreciate any ideas for some basic monsters that I can use within my game.

Thank you guys for understanding the situation I am currently in, I do hope to have released a demo by the time I move to university.

  7. Hello again everyone, CW here with some excellent news!

After so long without much progress on my game, I have finally had the chance to sit down and really work on it. As such I have been able to get a major portion of the game completed, the battle system, as well as the stats for both the player characters and the monsters within the planned demo portion of the game.

First of, the battle system I am using is CP's Battle System, so as such I will take no credit for how the system was made. Though, through using this system I will be able to utilise full battler graphics for the player characters later into development.

Now, as for the stats, I have finalised how the Characters should be played, both with their stats and with their skills. Even though I plan on the player only using one of the characters within the demo I have finished both playable characters just to make sure they are both completed. As for the monsters I have made them so they should be challenging when you first meet them and should still prove a challenge for a few levels. I have also made sure that the three monsters I have created each utilise one of the three types of Physical damage I plan on using within my games. This attack types, Slashing, Blunt and Piercing, each have a chance to cause a minor debuff to the target. Each of this debuffs can stack, which can lead to some very painful debuffs if a battle lasts to long.

And as a extra special reward, I though for once I would also upload an image on here, just so you guys can see the game for yourselves without having to go on my blog

    : Battle%2BExample%2B1.png

Well, there you have it guys. The latest update for TWC: The First Wielder. One other thing I would like to state is that I over the course of the week I came up with idea for a new Dungeon Crawler/ RPG style game, however due to the content I plan on having within this game I do not wish to upload anything about this game onto this forum. Once I create a blog for this game, as well as any other similar games, I will let you guys know about it.

But that's all for this week, hopefully I'll speak to you guys again next week. Bye Everybody!

  8. Hello everybody! CW here.

After last week's update I have been able to spend more time working on The First Wielder. So much so that I am pleased to announce that the first demo is now available! Just follow the link and download the archive file! I hope you all enjoy the portion of the game that I have made so far.

Well, that's about it for updates on The Wielder Chronicles this week. I know it's small text wise, but the fact I was able to get a playable demo out for today has allowed me to relax before I head off to university.

Well, I hope to speak to you guys again next Saturday, however since it's the last day I am still living with my family I might be too busy to update on here, so I'll speak to you guys again when I next can.
    - CW

Edit: I've updated the link with the latest version of the demo, which has fixed the bug with a couple of the events, just re-download the file, your previous saves should still work.

    - CW

Edit 2: I've re-updated the link with the latest version of the demo. In this version I have finally fixed some of the bugs with a few of the events. As well as this I have also updated a few areas as there was a lack of background music or sound effects. To experience all of the changes you will have to start again, but hopefully there are no more bugs and you guys should now be able to play through the demo.

  9. Hi I've tried the game from the download link in your blog, but I couldn't get past the part where

    Spoiler
I'm supposed to take my hunting gear and leave the house, I got the gear but the game wouldn't let me leave.
is there something else I'm supposed to do?
  10. Thanks for the reply tofuman, as for the problem you are experiencing you are supposed to just continue out of the house, I'll check my game and see if I can replicate the problem, I'll let you know how it goes afterwards, but in all likelihood it's most likely a small error in my event setup.

    - CW

Edit: Okay, after testing my game again I have located where the problem is, I hadn't set up one of the events correctly, so you wouldn't of been able to acquire the last piece. I fixed this issue now and the demo should work fine once I've re-uploaded it. I do hope you enjoy my demo, please leave any feedback once you've completed it.

  11. Hello Everybody, CW here.

Sorry about the lack of an update last week, I was moving into my new Uni accomodation and as such was too busy to post on here. I am now fully settled in, so I should be able to continue updating you guys about the status of the game.

Speaking of which, after a few comments I had about my game, both online and with some of the people I've met in person, I was able to fix a few of the bugs in the original demo, as well as find out what changes you guys might like me to make to the game, as well as what I should continue doing. I don't want to reveal any of the changes, that way it will be a surprise to you guys when you find them.

Even though I've been settled in my accommodation for a week now, I have not been able to make much time to work on the game. This is mainly due to the fact that I am getting to know people, as well as the lectures I need to attend, though the last couple of days have been a bit more productive, even if it is only a little. I have been able to finish off the first map of the Oakenham Forest and have now started on the deeper parts of the forest. I am hoping to have the layout of this new map completed before next Monday, but I have plans on the Sunday so I may or may not make this deadline.

Well, that's everything this week. I do hope to have a bigger update ready for you guys next week.

  12. Hello everybody, CW here.

Over the last week I have been hard at work on The First Wielder, fixing some of the bugs that I noticed within some of my events as well as creating a new map for the game:

Welcome to Oakenham Forest, or at least the deeper section of it.

Well, that's what it looks like currently. I've already added events to allow the player to travel to and from this map, so it is fully playable. The only things I still have left to do are to add in the monster groups found here, and I also have to set up some of the story events linked to the player's first visit to this area, but that's enough about that.

Other than this maps development, I haven't really got any other work done on the game, but that is mainly to how busy I have been with my University work. But I do hope to at least finish of the final touches of this map soon and will hopefully start developing the next map within the game. Thanks for reading everybody, I'll speak to you guys again next week! - CW
  13. Hello everybody, CW here again with another Saturday update!

Over the last week I have been able to work a fair bit on The First Wielder, however I have now hit a major roadblock... The graphics.

When I say the graphics what I mean is that for the next section of the game I require certain graphics for the new monster that the player will have to fight and I cannot find a stock image to use as a placeholder for now. Luckily I should have my new multipurpose printer/scanner here at some point next week, though it might not arrive until the weekend. As such I may not have much of an update for next week.

However, I have been able to finish off the deeper section of the forest within the game, including the events, I have also started to work on the map for the next section of the game.

In other news, I have come up with an idea for the next Wielder Chronicles game, which I am currently calling Project: Demon. This story will set up the back story for one of the main characters in the game, not saying any names, as well as one of the main villains. It will feature a new game mechanic of sorts which I plan to use in Card Wielder, once I continue to work on that. But for now I will be concentrating on The First Wielder, so don't worry about any more delays outside of the graphics.

Well, that's all for now. I may or may not speak to you guys again next week, it all depends on when the multipurpose printer/scanner arrives.

  14. Hello Everybody, CW here with another Saturday Update.

Sorry about not posting an update last week, I was away from my computer throughout most of the weekend and as such wasn't able to post an update on the blog. However, I was able to acquire my multi-purpose printer/scanner while spending time with my family. As such I had started to draw a few simple sketches for The First Wielder.

This was where I hit another roadblock. I hadn't drawn anything for a while as it is, let alone images that I would want to use within my games. As such, my sketches weren't very good and I didn't want to use them in my game until I had improved on my drawing skill. Not soon after making this decision, I was asked by one of my fellow university students about what I was drawing. After showing them my crude sketches and letting them know about my current plan for The First Wielder's artwork, they offered to help me with the artwork. I told them to let me think about it for a couple of days and I'll get back to them.

After seeing some of the wonderful artwork they had produced in the past, I finally decided on requesting them for their assistance. What this will mean is that I will be able to spend more time working on the computer based aspect's of the game, while the more physical aspect's are being drawn by them. We decided that while they are helping me they would like to be referred to as, Black-heart. What this does mean is that currently I have not got any of the game sprites created, unlike I had planned, but instead I now have a much more competent person dealing with the artwork.

Anyway, enough about the development of the artwork, I'm sure you would rather learn more about what it is I've actually done in developing the game. Over the course of the last two weeks, excluding the days that I was dealing with things related to the artwork, I have been able to produce the next map used in the game, as well as the basis of two new monsters that will be featured in that area. Sadly this is all I have done as I was primarily focused on getting the artwork stuff out of the way.

Well thank you for reading, I'm sorry again about the lack of an update last week, but I do hope to try and keep to my schedule as much as possible. Speak to you guys again next week.

    - CW
  15. Hello everybody, CW here to inform you about recent events related to my games and this blog!

Sorry about the lack of updates the past couple of weeks, I have been primarily busy with my Uni work and I had to visit my family last weekend, so as such I was unable to post an update on the blog. Another reason for the lack of an update is due to the fact that I wasn't able to get much work completed on The First Wielder during the last two weeks. That changed this week, when I finally got round to giving Black-heart the brief on the monsters featured in the game so far. This will be used as a basis for the concept artwork of the monsters. I will then choose my favourite designs and then scan those onto the computer. From there, I will trace the artwork in a picture editing program and then tweak them slightly until I have them at an acceptable standard for the game. I will then colour the image and then import the images into the game.

Now Black-heart has told me that they don't know when they'll be able to start drawing some concept sketches, as they too have Uni work to complete. As such there is no artwork for this week.

Well, that's all for now, sorry again about the lack of updates, I will try my best to get back on the schedule I set myself for this blog. Speak to you guys again next week!

  16. Hello everybody, CW here again,

Sorry about not posting anything for a while, I recently had a close family member of mine pass away and as such I have not had much enthusiasm to work on my games or update my blog. As a warning ahead of time I will not be posting an update next week as that is when I will be attending the funeral.

Again I am very sorry about the lack of updates, I do hope that I will be able to find the same enthusiasm I had before to work on my games. Speak to you all again in a couple of weeks
