  1. It was a cold evening, the coldest evening, an evening so cold you could say there was a high chance of it being well, cold. My office door swung open, a large well-rounded man busted through, yelling profanities and pleading for help. My brow raised ever so slightly, like a graceful ballerina, probably. It was my first case, and my gut told me it could very well be my last. However, little did I know at the time it would be my biggest case, one that could only be dubbed...

The Shadow Dance is a modern comedic RPG about Scott, a foolhardy wannabe detective taking his very first shot at a case in an attempt to redeem past wrong-doings. However, things quickly turn sour as he finds himself the rival of a mysterious company known only as Umbra Corp. He must rise up with some new and old allies to attempt to uncover the conspiracy at hand, for the sake of his city.

The Shadow Dance is the rewritten version of my project Minimum Wage, which has a forum post you can check here (soon to be revised to better reflect the new direction). A lot of the plot and mechanics has changed since then but it should help show an idea of what I'm capable of, my style, and the general scope of my ideas.

The game is planned to be a full length RPG, likely clocking in at 20+ hours. Because of this, to help keep my sanity intact and to help improve the speed of development I am interested in recruiting a small team to help work on the project. However, to keep it realistic to finish in a timely fashion, the overall design mechanically speaking is intended to be simple and to the point. I wish to recruit at this early point in development to help get things off the ground and really moving. The basis of the game is entirely planned out, now it's just fleshing it out and filling it in.

    Positions:

    Co-Leader High Priority OPEN -
    • Feel like you could really contribute in a large way to this project and help manage it? Good at many of the requested positions and really want to sink your time into this project? You'd be more than welcome to be the co-leader!
    • You'll help organize the team and be the first I approach when it comes to feedback and accepting other team members.
    • I'd only recommend applying for this if you are really passionate about this project and want to really help get it moving off the ground.

    Writers Medium Priority OPEN -
    • If you enjoy writing for a silly style of game, you'll fit right in! The world could use plenty of wacky NPCs. I can only think up so many jokes so having extra help to flesh areas out is always appreciated.
    • While comedic, the world has a more detailed (but still silly) lore than you may think! If you fancy yourself a world builder you could help expand on the pre-existing lore.
    • Your main role would be to create side quests for the game, you can go about submitting these ideas in whatever way you find the most fitting, whether it be a detailed outline or a simple inkling of an idea.
    • There will be a document for writers to reference that serves as a guideline for creating quests, npcs, and lore elements to help ensure consistency.
    • I will also bounce main story points of any writers on the team to help ensure that what I'm writing is good.
    • If interested, be sure to just send in any previous work of writing you're particularly proud of!

    Artists High Priority OPEN -
    • I am capable of doing minor edits to RTP, but there is many things I'd love to do that simply require more, this is where an artist would come in!
    • Artists that could help design either tilesets, facesets/busts, characters, or enemies would be ideal. Helping with any required edits would also be a great help.
    • There will be a list of what's needed or wanted for the game that artists can refer to, as well as what the priority of each item on that list is.
    • If interested, just PM some of your previous work and what you're interested in making for the game.
    Composers Medium Priority OPEN -
    • Having custom-made music for the project could really help bring alive certain scenes and add that little bit of extra charm to the game. With a silly game comes silly music naturally, so don't be afraid to get a little bizarre and out there with your music.
    • Similar to other roles there will be a priority list of what areas could use custom music, as well as some inspiration to help show what sort of feel is wanted for that area.
Battle Designers High Priority OPEN -
    • When it comes to developing games, battles have never been my strong point, which is why I'd love someone who feels it's their strongest point. If you want to try your hand at designing something simple but fun it'd be great to have you on this project.
    • You'd help with designing skills for the party, enemies, bosses, and action sequences, to help make sure that the combat doesn't lag behind the rest of the game.
    • If interested, send in some previous work, whether it be a super cool battle system you designed yourself, or some fancy action sequences. Anything you feel that shows off your designing prowess is a good step!
    Mappers Low Priority OPEN -
    • While I'm confident in my ability to make maps and quite enjoy it, a little extra help has never hurt! You'd be expected to help fill out the needed maps for the game, as well as work with the writers to help map less important side areas, needed for side quests. The game will only be using RTP mapping.
    • If interested, send in some examples of maps you've made.
    Designer Low Priority OPEN -
    • Feel you're good at designing something not listed here? You're help could still be appreciated. Whether it be puzzles, dungeons, or whatever else, feel free to submit if you feel you could help add more to the game.
    Programmer Low Priority OPEN -
    • The main meat of this game is intended to be rather simple, as such not much need is there for a programmer. However, that does not mean one couldn't be used to help bring some unique flair to the game! Your role would be to help bring to life with some unique visual and audio effects as well as create custom menus.

    My Role:
I will be the main writer and designer of the game. I will be doing a lot of the work, from mapping, writing dialogue, designing battles, databasing, and eventing. I fully intend on having at least some sort of role in most aspects of the project to keep things well organized and things moving.

    Why Join?:
I really enjoy a collaborative experience, this game was something originally intended to be a solo dev project, but however after a long time of going back and forth with it I've changed my mind. I want the experience of working on this game to be fun, rewarding, and encouraging. None of us may be the best developers out there, but together we could put something out truly passionate and fun, all while having fun ourselves. To me, at the end of the day, that's what matters most with this project.

I really value the feedback and contributions of others and working on a team is a great way to really bring that out. To me, being open-minded to any ideas of the team is great and is where the real value of a team comes from. If you feel the same way about working on a team, I'd love to have you on the project!

    What to Expect:
One of my main points when it comes to being a successful team is being cooperative and understanding. Being a free project in every way, I intend to make it a point that you won't be pressured to contribute when life gets in the way. The show WILL go in even if not a single person ends up joining the team.

However, you are expected to still contribute to the game, even if it is not in the way you originally intended, your help will still be appreciated. There is a developer discord that you will be expected to at least join for updates, and communication with the rest of the team is heavily encouraged, but it is understandable if you wish not to, but it'd be preferred if you made this clear so it can be worked around.

    The Team:
Slammy - Project Lead, Writer, Mapper, Artist, Eventer, Databaser, Designer
    And hopefully more to come!

That's all I have for now! If interested, send a PM with what role you'd like and I'll talk to you as soon as possible.
  2. Ah yeah I'd like to help. It kinda reminds me of my perennial project Jackland & Morbius who are detectives from time to time.

I made a game about them in RPG Maker 2k3 and made some videos of gameplay

Opening (only video with an rtp song in it)

Ending. Skip to 1:50 (shouldn't have made that boss so long...) I made all the music and graphics in this video segment I think except one rtp chicken

    Knights of Galiveth

I did character faces (illustration and sprite), title design illustration, enemy sprites, and music.

So I'd like to do the Knights of Galiveth roles for The Shadow Dance. Heck with some direction I can even do tilesets. Just hit me up ^_~

  4. Hello

If you still require the need of a writer or a mapper i would be interested.

I have wrote a few stories and a few comics but sadly i wrote them in my native language and not english.
But i can write some comedic dialouge or descriptons.
