Hi all,
I'm new here and I've only put in maybe 3-5 hours into RPG Maker MV, but a bunch into thoughts on a whiteboard. I have an idea to make a game but first I am aiming to create a prototype / demo and see if it gets any attention.
I think i'm capable at the programming and interface aspect of making the game but I'm hopeless at creating a good looking map. Is there any service here that I can pay someone for making me some maps?
OR
Maybe I can buy some already made maps from people?
Basically for the demo I'd like to make some of the following maps
- Present style city / skyscrapers and stuff (would include a house / room or 2)
Maybe similar to this: https://pixanna.nl/products/fantastic-buildings-modern/
I think using some of the free maps I can put together the rest of the stuff.
No one wants to be paying thousands of dollars for a map, and since it's a demo, then a lower quality would obviously be a good starting ground for me.
If someone could guide me in the right direction to start something like this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
The New Guy

Hi and welcome! Just so you know, this isn't the section to be looking for a mapper, nor looking to pay someone. We do have a Classifieds section where you can post looking to hire someone or see what services are already being offered. But it is only available once you have reached Veteran status here on the forums. This post explains why.
In the meantime you might browse our Workshops, where people offer free work. In addition, I strongly encourage you to keep practicing at mapping. It is definitely a learned skill. One way that help me to learn was to take maps that I thought looked good and try to recreate them - not for use in my own game, but just to practice. You can do this with the sample maps in MV or you can look through our Game Map & Screenshots thread to find something you want to try. -
Hello! Welcome!
I have some questions for you, with the intention of pointing you in the right direction.
Have you ever used a game maker before? Or made a game before?
Also I am willing to bet you can learn to make a functioning map and pleasing map. It doesn't need to be stunningly amazing. -
Hey,
Thanks for your comments. I figured it wasn't the right section for it, so thank you for pointing me in the right direction. @mlogan
I will work on that veteran title and go from there.
@punchybot
I have used something maybe 15 years ago called the games factory and enjoyed it. I've also dabbled with this RPG Maker to get the hang of the mechanics. I'm looking forward to doing that aspect but I find the map making very time consuming. I'm not strapped for cash, so i'm more than happy to pay someone to help make me a map that I can work with.
Thanks again for your help -
So in terms of experience we are pretty close.
Yanfly does a great job on trying to make everyone a better game maker. One of the things I that really set me on the right track is his comics: http://yanfly.moe/comics/
Check that out before you get started with anything!
As for maps, I understand you have the money to have someone make the maps, but for now I think you should wait and figure exactly what maps you need before you buy anything. You wouldn't want to be stuck with a map that no longer fits your game.
I also dislike making maps but I can at least make functional maps, I just am not skilled enough to make a pretty one, but I don't care personally.
Anyway good luck in your game making! -
Thanks for your advice mate

Yanfly's comics are awesome - definitely check them out.
Have you purchased MV yet, or are you still using the trial version? I'm just asking as it doesn't go on sale very often, but it's available in a humble bundle right now and for a few more days, in case you hadn't bought it yet but wanted to.
We do have a few people here who make maps on commission, and they are quite good, and quite reasonably priced. So check them out when you get enough valid posts to access that area. -
@Shaz
Thanks for your comments.
I purchase RPG MMV maybe 6 months ago and fiddled around with it. Now I am ready to start using it. I thought I bought it on sale... maybe 40% off at the time of purchase, I thought it was a good deal.
Thanks for the comments on the map making. I will look forward to their help and assistance.
Thanks.
