Currently trying to not rely on RTP so I'm either looking for or making my own resources. Man, I didn't expect pixel art to be difficult, mu sprites are painfully ugly/plain/doesn't match with the background.

Faces are still generic but they'll be changed soon.
    Description_zps1fe0ce24.jpg
The Legacy: Age of Elders is a spin-off of the usual JRPG genre in which the events of the game take place 40 years after the main character's so-called "Epic" adventures.

The player takes on the role of Icarus Blaathe, a retired adventurr in his mid-to-late sixties to embark on his final quest, a quest that will help him recall the stories about the past adventures of his party, as well as oversee the endeavors of an aspiring band of younger heroes.

This game revolves heavilly on dialogue choices and cutscenes, so it is up to the player to chose wisely as every choice may or may not unlock different endings, and every choice is, most of the time, final.

    Endings Include:

    • 1 Normal ending,
    • 1 "True" ending,
    • An undecided number of sub-endings, and
    • One complementary ending that, although is not necessary, adds up to the experience of the whole game.
    Current Features:

    • Casual gameplay that's story/cutscene inclined. If you're not a fan of too much talking, then this game is not for you.
    • Contains the RPG element of "get this and that to finish this quest", but is minimal to preserve the continuity of the story.
    • Popular references from video games like God of War, to TV sitcoms like FRIENDS and even to sportswear.
    • Although the story is dark in tone, the game still includes a pinch of witty, crude and slap-stick humor on, mostly, non-plot relevant interactions.
    • Shimmer Dirt
    Synopsis_zps4d99d27d.jpg
The events of the game takes place four decades after the main character's/hero's victory against the evil dark lord who once threatened the land of Aresra, ushering a peaceful age where there's little to no conflict and almost no need for heroes.

The heroes, after the leader's sudden withdrawal from society, were slowly being forgotten especially by the newer generations who were never around during their heroic endeavors. The main character, Icarus unlike his younger self, is now a bitter, seemilngy depressed old man whose character turned out for the worse after his last and only adventure. While living peacefully in the countryside, Icarus was approached by what seemed to be the king's royal guard in an attempt to convince Icarus to embark on a "Last Mission" for the crown.

Will Icarus' slowly fading glory be redeemed or will it be lost forever as not the truth but simply a legend. It is up to the player to decide.

  2. Bump and First demo released.

I would appreciate any comment or criticism about it as this is my first game.
  3. Bumping! Comments, feed backs and critiques regarding anything that has been provided in the original post would be appreciated! :)
  4. Hi there, nebeurys :) Turns out I had the same ideas as yours, heehee. (Down to the same "40 years later!") The irony is that for a first project, unlike you I plan to use as much of the RTP as possible for practice ;)

Still, yours look quite promising and your mapping doesn't look bad. Out of respect for you, I might scrap my idea and think of something else. Wishing you luck on your project!

I'm glad that you don't find my mapping to be horrid. :)

Anyway, I'd be very uncomfortable if you decide to scrap the plot of your story especially if you've already put some work into it. I won't mind if you push through with it, in fact, this is also my first game so it'd be really interesting to see how similar/different our games will end up. :p
  6. I love the concept of heroes coming out of retirement. As a matter of fact, it reminds me of Cohen the Barbarian and the Silver Horde from Pratchett's Discworld books. (Definitely worth the read, BTW ;) )

Currently on my phone, so I can't try the demo just yet, but I will!

That's very kind of you :) Alright then, I'll soldier ahead. Thanks for the encouragement!

Sounds like a Conan parody, but it still sounds interesting so I'll give it a read just in case I end up having the exact same story line. :D

Thanks a bunch for considering on giving the demo a try. I noticed the link wasn't working(must have accidentally messed with it after editing the post) so I fixed it with more updated version.

    Good luck, man! :)
  9. It is a bit of a Conan parody. The Discworld books are pretty satirical, often skewering fantasy tropes. The ones I can remember Cohen and the Horde really featuring in are Interesting Times and The Last Hero.
