    The Legend

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Long ago, there existed a kingdom where a golden power lay hidden.

It was a prosperous land blessed with green forests, tall mountains, and peace.

But one day a man of great evil found the golden power and took it for himself.

With its strength at his command, he spread darkness across the kingdom.

But then, when all hope had died, and the hour of doom seemed at hand...

...a mysterious man clothed in armour appeared as if from nowhere.

Wielding the blade of evil's bane, he sealed the dark one away and gave the land light.

The man's tale was passed down through generations until it became legend.

The great evil that all thought had been forever been sealed away by the hero once again crept forth from the depths of the earth, eager to resume its dark designs.

The people of the land prayed to their Gods in hope of this hero to return...

...The hero did not appear again.

    Realm of Arstrenia

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The great land of Arstrenia has been around for centuries.

Arstrenia spans from the far reaches of Earth.

For centuries, man has made it's dominance over Arstrenia.

Developing villages and kingdoms of it's own.

Camelot City, the heart of Arstenia is the most power in all of the land.

Over the years, many forces have stopped at nothing to take it over.

The only living thing to ever accomplish this was the Dark Lord.

The Dark Lord was sealed away for many years, then broke away from his seal.

Casting an evil curse over the the kingdom, turning it into a decrepit wasteland of rumble and ash.

  2. [rant] Rubble and not rumble. Anyways this sounds incredibly close to a Legend of Zelda title from what I read in the synopsis. I can get it's Arthur and the holy blade Excalibur, but it sounds just like Link and Master Sword...so much in fact that to call it the sword of evil's bane. And Master Sword's name is called Excalibur in it's french translation. I won't dismiss this game since I go with judge a game by it's contents and not cover, but I will commend you for making it sound original with it's location names and characters. [/Rant] Anyways I would like to see how this game will develop. :3
  3. Haha, I agree with you. I am quite the huge Zelda fan and I guess I got a bit carried away with the whole idea and story of the game. I'm also a fan of the Excalibur and the tale of King Arthur. So what I guess I did was took bits and pieces of both stories and merged them together to create something that was never done before.

As far as the gameplay goes, it's not like either The Legend of Zelda or King Arthur, other than it having some dungeons and the name Arthur is mentioned in it. The game is more open to a lot of side quests and little events rather than just sticking to one certain quest, which in my game is just considered the main quest while the player is open to varies little quests. Whether it'd be fetching ingredients for a cake, to saving a damsel in destress. The project is very nice and a lot can be done to change the game up and make it more fun for the gaming audience.
  4. I think you may have taken your love for the Legend of Zelda series a bit too far... I mean, the "legend" is basically a carbon copy of the opening for Wind Waker, with a few words changed here or there to suit your needs, and that is not okay. Before doing anything else, you should really rewrite that into something completely by you.

I also think you could work on your mapping skills a bit more. Everything feels too symmetrical, and some of your clutter tiles seem like they're just there to crowd the screen instead of adding atmosphere or showing the player where they should be going.

And I really hope you have an interesting and incredibly unique villain to back up such a generic title like "Dark Lord."

Other than that, it sounds like a cool project, and I look forward to seeing you continue work on it! (But seriously, you still need to rewrite that legend.)
  5. The story could be worse. Since I'm guessing this is your first released project (at least on these forums anyway) it's totally excusable to have a cliché story. All I can add that others haven't is that you could really just mix a few names up a bit and the story would seem a lot different already. For example, you could refer to the Dark Lord by his actual name, and make it a name to be feared in itself. Instead of referring to the hero as "The Chosen One", you could make up your own term, like "The Knight of Justice" or "The Saviour of Maybure".

All comments about the story aside, I just thought I'd say I really like the mapping, actually. It's a lot better than most other RTP games out there I've seen. But on the (fourth?) screenshot with the field full of flowers I'd take Hollow-Bound's advice and mix it up a little bit, and add some empty patches of grass in there.

Just some food for thought there, hope you find some use with it

    :)
