I find myself in quite the pickle.
I can't do any actions requiring the "B" button. Regardless if I use Esc, X, or Num0.
I found another with this problem:
http://www.rpgmakervx.net/index.php?showtopic=31492
It was for RPG Maker VX, but it is identical to my problem in Ace.
Even up to the point of the Windows key working as the B button (about 50% of the time, though.)
I tried restarting the game AND the program as recommended in the post, nothing worked.
As a last resort, I restarted my entire computer.
Finally, it would work. I exited the game, edited ONE thing, went back in, and lo and behold B was again disfunctional.
I really don't want to have to restart my computer every time I go to test a change. Anyone have any advice?

Never even heard of that problem. Checked the thread just to see what in the world you were talking about.
So you have absolutely no idea what caused it? -
Not in the slightest.
I have a little comfort that I'm not the only one who's experienced it, but at the same time "randomly working again" doesn't seem like a well fit solution. -
do you have any custom input script there, or maybe some program running that modifies the buttons?
-
The only thing I have regarding input I believe is JV's 8-dir script and Yanfly's Action Chain Skills, if they have anything special to do with input at all.
All the scripts currently in use:
JV 8-Directional Movement
Fomar0153's Free Hand/Duel Wield script
Yanfly's:
Core
Adjust Limits
Party System
Battle Engine
Free Turn Battle
Element Popups
Enemy HP Bars
Cast Animations
Active Chain Skills
and a fix for Yanfly's Battle Animations (from the same page as the Battle Engine)
(EDIT: Added the links to each script) -
links would be useful.
But first - start a NEW project with NO custom scripts, and see if the problem still happens there. If it does, then it's not a script issue. -
Oh, thanks for mentioning that.
As they did on the other thread, they tried other projects and the problem persisted.
I did too. I tried other projects unrelated to this one, ones that I knew 100% worked before, and the B button still failed to function.
So you're right, it is not a scripting issue. -
Ones with NO custom scripts or script mods?
Do you have any gaming devices plugged in? I wonder if it might be related to the issue where your character sometimes moves in a single direction even when you're not pressing any keys ... that's because of non-standard devices being connected.
And of course, the obvious question ... what condition is your keyboard in? Have you pulled the escape button off to see if it's not gunked up underneath? Do you have a different keyboard you can plug in temporarily to make sure that's not the problem? -
I just started a new project, used the paintbucket on the water to turn it to grass, and ran the game. Still no B button functionality.
I use a laptop, and the only things presently plugged into my laptop are my power cord and the USB receiver for my wireless mouse.
All of my keys, ESC, X, Num0, etc. work perfectly in all other programs.
(I can type X and 0 just fine, and when opening the start menu and pressing escape, it goes away, like it should.)
There's also that weird scenario where pressing Windows will open up the window. Well, sort of.
The game is in fullscreen. I press windows, and the screen disappears (as if it was minimized or put behind my web browser) and the start menu opens up. I go to my taskbar and click the game and it goes back into the game, and the pause menu opens.
Let me see what happens when not in fullscreen...
(Trying it out on that empty project I mentioned above...)
The start menu opens, the pause menu doesn't open yet.
I click on the game, and then the pause menu opens... Is it meant to do that when you're not in-game?
WAIT!
This is interesting! Every time I minimize and reopen the game, it uses the B button!
For example, I minimize it, reopen it, it opens the menu. I minimize it again, I reopen it, it closes the menu.
I'm not certain why.
EDIT:
Should mention, all settings in the F1 box are set to default. -
Interesting.
I've never heard of this bug either.
You should try making a parallel event that has a conditional that checks for if the B button is pushed and see if that triggers anything.
(Make it play a sound or something.)
Yours opens the menu, yes?
I def never had issues with my menu button. -
Now isn't that interesting!
It's as if the button is either being held down.
The sound just... goes and goes and goes...
I minimize the window, and it stops. I reopen, and it continues. -
I FIXED IT~!
At least, for now.
It was the Num0 key, for whatever reason.
Using the sound tip from Maliki79 as persistent test, I opened F1 and set ESC, Num0, and X to "-" (That way, no keys used the B button)
The sound stopped. I set ESC back to B, still no sound. Set Num0 to B, and BOOM! Sound was back.
I used Cyl's advice on the forum I linked to in the first post:
I did that, holding Shift and spamming Num0 and after a couple presses, it reset back to normal.I have a weird fix for that:
Hold down SHIFT (A Button) then rapidly spam the B Button.
That'll make your B Button working again without restarting.
Maybe Num0 was stuck just enough that RMVX Ace was sensitive to it but nothing else was...? That's odd, though.
Anyway, I put X back to B, and still no sound, so everything seems to be in working order. Thanks guys!
EDIT: Whoops, I just realized I double-posted. I'm trying to cut this out and edit it into my last post but I appear to be incapable of deleting this one :/ -
Glad to have helped.
:D -
Well, I think I'll bookmark this topic, just in case there is another of these random bugs.
Pretty glad you solved it. -
OroCrimson, please avoid double posting, as it is against the forum rules. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.
Just edit your post and add the extra information :)
