  1. Looking through the Video Game Board, I didn't see any topics on one of my all time favorite game series: SUPER SMASH BROTHERS!

If that's ok, I'd like to start this topic with my experience with the series through my life.

    Spoiler
I love this series, first started playing it when Melee came out (used to go play the game off of a friends Gamecube for months until I was able to get one myself). Mained as Dr. Mario and got my butt kicked a lot. It was around the time that Brawl was announced that I started to go even with my friend in Melee.

One of my favorite things to do with my high school friends was to speculate characters being confirmed and debunked on forums. Waking up at 4AM on school days to see the pic of the day that Masahiro Sakurai (Mash Potato Samurai) posted got me through so many of my conversations the last few years in high school. I'll never forget a few conversations we had about Sonic. "There's no way he's getting in the game. The fact that Snake is in is a shock already to most." Then the day came Sonic was announced, I looked at my friend and said. "DUDE." He responded with "I KNOW!" So now that both Sonic and Solid Snake were confirmed to be playable, people speculated so many crazy theories for 3rd party characters. I always hoped for Mega Man, but as you can see - he never made the Brawl cut.

The day Brawl came out, I absolutely loved it. Picked up Olimar and soon enough I was the target to take down around my group of friends. Played it about halfway through college then put it away. Among my group of friends, Brawl wasn't a really fun game like Melee was to them. They believed Brawl lacked a lot of the techniques (Wave Dashing, Dash Dancing, and  overall - Melee being a faster game) and that Brawl was a low skill cap game.

It was only around my Junior/Senior year of college where I actually got to play the N64 version. Coming to this game 3rd after playing Melee and Brawl for so long was a real shock. Kirby and Pikachu were my two favorites in this genre. I didn't get much hands on time with Smash 64.

Then 2013 came, and Smash Brothers 4 was announced, and Mega Man was confirmed. HECK YEAH! As a now 25 year old adult, i see that a lot of my older friends have moved on past this game. A core few remain and still play the game, and I've met new friends to play with. To me, smash brothers isn't just a game or a measure of ones skill. It's a way to get to know your next best friend.
Of course the top part is optional as to have you guys avoid a wall of text. The topic of this thread can start off with these few questions:

Who's your favorite character? Why? How did you start playing him/her?

When did you start playing the game? What game did you start with?

Are you excited for Smash 4 3DS and Wii U?

I'm always up for challenges, I'm not good with Smash 4 on the 3DS after all the years using the greatest controller of all time Gamecube controller. But I'll play you none the less. Just PM me your friend code on the 3DS and I'll PM you mine.

    Ready? GO!

Really huge image gallery of every "Pic of the Day" from the Super Smash Brothers website

TL;DR - SMASH BROTHERS IS HYPE
  2. I love all of them this was a childhood game!  and I can't wait to buy a Wii U for buy super mash bros U

ho and if I remember U signify Universe xD but not sure~
  3. I love fighting games, this series have to be my favorite of that type. I love all of them to date, but if I have to choose my favorite, it would be Brawl... and yes I owned Melee first. I'm planning to get the 64 version on the virtual console when my wallet get's a break.

Also, a smash direct airs tomorrow, 50 new things to learn about Smash Wii U.

    GET HYPED!!!

  4. I like super smash melee the best, mostly for the fact they changed Samus to something I do not like in later versions. ):

I do not have a main yet in smash for the 3ds, but I am loving it so far (unlike brawl).

If you want to exchange friend codes, pm me (I really like the customization and it would be cool to try it out).

edit: also can't wait to see the reveals tomorrow.
  5. My favorite character is Pikachu. I started playing him/her because like most kids I just decided to spam thunder like the little turd monster 9 year old I was. Of course now I still use Pikachu because I enjoy characters with lots of speed and mobility.

I started playing on N64. I remember the commercial with the Nintendo mascots beating the crap out of each other. I love how the commercial was actually more horrific and demented because of the lovable characters and all the bright colors.
  6. @littlefish pikachu is so awesome.  I love the taunts pika has too.
  7. Melee, though.

    Lol - let's see...

-Favorite character? Marth. Why? The glorious battle for sibling superiority (i.e. my brother used Roy). Before that it was Kirby, but Kirby reminded me of vacuuming, which I don't like.

-When I started/which game? Ah heck, I was probably 7 when I started playing the N64 version with my older brothers. I was awful with the N64 controller, so I never actually won until we bought a GameCube and got Melee.

I'm pretty hyped for numero four-o, but I'll probably wait to buy it.

    TL;DR: Am poor, will buy.
  8. @Amy I was obsessed with Marth in Melee because of the line he says on the his victory screen. I had never heard much Japanese before that and I really like the way his voice sounded!
  9. @Amy what did your brother do when Roy was removed (rip roy)?  Losing your favorite is not a small thing.

@Littlefish I love Ike's victory screen for he fights for his friends.
  10. @Seacliff - CHOO CHOO! (I literally googled Smash 4 hype train)

@AwesomeCool - Sure, I'll PM you my friend code in a bit. I love customization, it's a very unique feature in the game that I'm really happy they added. If controlled properly I honestly think that Smash community can do their own balance changes that can either bring up a characters skill level or tone down a characters superiority.

As for the release tomorrow, Sakurai spoiled it pretty well today (New character reveal). I also bet he's going to announce something related to the Wii U exclusive mode. I heard it was a board game mode.
  11. I've played all Smash games released so far, but I liked Brawl out of all of them mostly because I really loved playing as Lucas! I MISS HIM!! Ness, Jigglypuff, and Ike are my usual fare in 3DS Smash, though. Hoping to get smash for Wii U as well. And if anyone wants to add me for 3DS smash, my FC is 0516-8513-5154, and let me know if you add me so I can add back. :>
  12. I will say my favorite character is link!
  13. @Goldstorm

    It's beautiful!

Ike and Peach were my main in Melee. But there are so many good character choices in the new game that I can't decide on a main. Rosalina, Robin, Dark Pit, Lucinia, Palutena... SO MUCH!!
  14. Lol @ Meg (of Coffee) - I thought those were cool, too. I seriously thought I just couldn't understand the lines for a while xD

@AwesomeCool: He started using Wolf, and I rubbed it in every time. C:
  15. Right now, I want to re learn everyone of my old mains in the new Smash 4. Which would be Olimar and Dr. Mario. New character mains include Mega Man, Palutena, and Donkey Kong.

A lot of my friends are loving Robin, I'm not too much of a fan of him/her.

I think the only character I can't stand Shulk. As much as I want to play Xenoblade Chronicles, I just don't like they way he plays.
  16. @Goldstorm IM REALLY FEELING IT! BACKSLASH!!!!

@amy: but now wolf is gone too lol. what ever will he do!!!

Amy's brother sounds like the type of guy that loves characters like Mewtwo and Lucas and wants characters like Ridley. (Characters that may never be in again or ever will be!)

    @AwesomeCool - Not cool man.
  18. He yelled backslash while jumping forward. I see no issue here.

It's not even his back air. What a scrub character.

Edit: I'm just joking of course. I think Shulk is a fine character. I just don't like playing against him.
  20. I should take lessons from shulk on how to sneak. :)

Also, Amy I feel bad for your brother. :( I lost mewtwo so I know dem feels.
