Strange Behavior - Multiple Project Windows

  1. I have some very quirky behavior running multiple windows on the same computer at once in RPG Maker VX Ace.It seems like RPG Maker VX Ace's intent is to let you open multiple windows of the program, but it doesn't work as a normal Windows program operates in that regard. This doesn't seem right, and it has been a big annoyance for me for a while and I'm finally posting about it. I had the "pre-order" version installed, and then when Steam support came along, I activated it on Steam to allow for all those features. I don't remember if the program operated this way before or not. Could the install be confused somehow and I should just uninstall and start fresh?

    My problem is as follows:

    • Whenever I start RPG Maker VX Ace, it always opens my main project. This is cool. However, while that is open, I am not able to open any other .rvproj2 files. Double clicking any such files results in a blank window of RPG Maker VX Ace opening. (When I say "blank" I mean it just loads a new window with no open project in it) I can then go to File > Open Project... and open up any other project I want and it runs the two of them fine.
    • No matter what, I am unable to open any other .rvproj2 files besides my main project. Double clicking them opens up my main project, from where I have to go to File > Open Project... and choose the file that way. This would be fine as well, but then, it sets that project as my "main project" and constantly opens that one from then on whenever I open the program (regardless of which .rvproj2 file I actually click on).
It seems like this has got to be something wrong with my install. It makes it very difficult to copy scripts from demos, and even to copy events between projects. I hope this is not the intended behavior, but I wasn't sure. Can someone please follow these steps and let me know what the outcome is? That way I'll know if this should be a "feature request" of some sort, or if my install is broken, or anyone has any other ideas on why this is happening.:

    • Open RMVXA and open a project.
    • Close RMVXA.
    • Open RMVXA again. Your project should open.
    • Close RMVXA again.
    • Click on a rvproj2 file for any other project
Then confirm or deny if it:

    1. opens the first project,
    2. or the second project whose rvproj2 file you actually clicked on?
    Thank you for your time.
  2. The steam version cannot link the project files to the program due to the way steam is internally organized.

I suggest deinstalling both and installing only the standalone to check if that solves the problem, or install the standalone after the steam and manually connect the project files with the non-steam version of the editor after that.
