My friends and I are aiming to create a game with mechanics similar to Huniepop, where the player can click on a certain icon and pop up open a character manual.
The thing is, I want this manual to be similar to the CG gallery, in where as you progress throughout the game, you unlock things like personality traits, "profile pictures", likes, dislikes, interests, hobbies, etc. I'm well aware that this is possible, but, as a new developer to Visual Novel Maker, I am unsure as of now how to implement any of this.
If someone could link me to a step by step tutorial, provide one, or give a simple explanation and let me figure the rest out myself, I would be thrilled. Thanks in advance! <3
Also, if anyone was curious, here's the button that would direct the player to the character manual:

Well, as you may have guessed, there're two ways of implementing this:
- Via script: if you're not particularly good with js/cs than this is definitely not a good idea, but consider that if you hire someone pro enough this may be a good idea for them, especially because of the similarities with the gallery layout that would allow them to reuse lots of code.
- Via blocks system: this is probably the simplest option, but I don't think there are many tutorials out there, so just ask and I may work on it for you (for free).

@FoxySeta Don't worry, your answers are actually highly helpful! And I was a little curious as how that would work, if you were to help me; how would I be able to implement it into my game? If you're actually willing to help, that would be really amazing, since I'm new to VNM and all that. Thank you! I hope I'm not being rude or anything :")

I was thinking of publishing a free extension on the forum so that everyone can use it asap.If you're actually willing to help, that would be really amazing, since I'm new to VNM and all that.
Not at all, don't worry :kaojoy:I hope I'm not being rude or anything :")
(I'm working on another project at the moment, so this may take a bit, but I was already thinking of publishing a series of extensions for the community anyway.) -
@FoxySeta That's wonderful! Thank you so much, haha. And your project looks very interesting!

I'm actually stuck till someone answer me here… (I may have other questions in future, but most of the work should be done)Preview (still working on it)
Please note that:
- I used the standard assets resources to make it, so that everyone can see it work with art that they already know well. You can obviously change both the graphics, the texts, the disposition etc.
- It's pretty essential, but if enough people are interested in it I may want to add new features in future
-
Wow, that looks great so far. Again, thanks for doing this. It really means a lot!! @FoxySeta

Very generous of you, @FoxySeta, just wanted to tell you that your contribution is much appreciated. If in the future you feel like adding features to it, a bar display of character related variables (affection in a standard dating sim, or HP and other values in an RPG hybrid) would be fantastic, but what's already done is great as is.

Thanks! Like I said, I may go ahead and add new features to this pretty simple extension if enough people are interested. Anyway, I'm going to release it under the MIT license, which means you're free to edit it yourself as you please.Very generous of you, @FoxySeta, just wanted to tell you that your contribution is much appreciated. Also, I'm using health bars in my current project as well, so I may as well make an extension out of it as well (probably as a separate plugin though). -
That would be wonderful. I hope this software starts picking up at least a fraction of the support the RPG Makers get, and you're certainly doing your part.

Woah, I actually feel exactly the same way about it:kaojoy:That would be wonderful. I hope this software starts picking up at least a fraction of the support the RPG Makers get, and you're certainly doing your part.
Thanks!
EDIT: Hey there! Just wanted to let people know that the above-mentioned extension has been moderated and is now available. To get to it quickly, just click on the "Foxy's VNMaker" banner from my signature and click on it from the list that will appear. Let me know if you liked it! -
Bumb (just to make sure OP has seen my edit)

@FoxySeta Thank you so much, again! I'll be sure to credit you in the game's description and credits scene!
