side stairs help

    hi there

    i have a problem:

    in my game i whant to use one tileset the same stairs as in this image:

    the problem is i don't know how to put them correctly so that the player can "climb" them.

    i know that i have to use event comands and move the player but how?

    and i know those are parallaxe tiles but i modified them to use as normal tiles

    By default, the player cannot move diagonally - you need scripts to add that option.


    However, an 8-dir-movement would still require the player to move diagonally instead of left-right to look correct.


    But there is one script that uses region codes to turn left/right into climbing diagonal moves on selected tiles of the map.


    Unfortunately I don't remember its name - search on the mastewr script list for "region" or "terrain" and you should find it (together with a few dozen other scripts, but you only have to check those and not the entire MSL)

    If you don't mind the player not being able to stop on the stair, you can event it.

    Spoiler
    Put your events on the stairs like this:

    The lower event will move the player up the stairs:

    The upper event moves the player down the stairs:

    I tried it out quickly, so if you set up your events like the ones I showed it should work for you.  Hope it helps!

    It is one of the tricky things about maps - you have to make them to actually work for people playing your game =] and the tricky thing about tiles, too!


    Another way to event it would be to create a whole new sprite just for this scene.


    It would be three tiles high and two tiles wide for each character and you would essentially move the sprite yourself within the area so that it looks like he is ascending the steps.


    As HiddenOne pointed out, eventing the steps movement makes it out player control.


    However you may decide you like the map so much (it is nice!) that it is worth it for you. Who is the artist, BTW. I know I should know....

    thanks for the tip but i prefered not using any scripts for this, may cause other problems :)

    it's just a simple climb the stairs if the player didn't want to climb them and did it by mistake just climb down

    besides the way hiddenone sujests it ony happens if the player goes in that direction :)

    oh! and celliana is the artist of those tiles :D

    I made a script where you can put a region tag or terrain tag on diagonal stairs, then pressing left or right would make the player go up or down as well. I won't link to it though, as you just said you prefer not to use a script.
