Science Fiction in the Making

  1. Hello, I'm new to the Forums and I am working on a Science Fiction game. I am not sure what type of game it will be (RPG/Novel/Strategy ect) because I do not know how to use Scripting and I am going on what the game started with. It will be in the essence of games like Star Control 2. I drew up a few ideas that I think I can implement without having any further information about RPG Maker VXace (not that I wouldn't mind, and I eventually plan on reading more once I get the basics (of the game I'm making) down). I would like some feedback to what I have ideas for (maybe I can't do it, I don't know

    :p

) In no way do I ever want to make money from this, but perhaps release it (somehow, I'm not sure how to "Finish" the game) and to do that I'll need to know what it would require (like mentioning people and so on)

    Ideas

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    (Main Features)

This will obviously be set in the future. The "world" map will be space. If I can figure it out or someone can tell me how to fix this I would like to make the smallest boat/rowboat into a space ship (already re-did the picture, though I can't figure out how to make the background transparent) so it will be able to travel through "space" The problem seems to be that the boat only goes through water? if I can use a different texture for a space background but still make it think it is water, that would be great. The rowboat/ship/airship will be different smaller ships, like fighters or transport shuttles. I do not know the difference (game wise) between the Row Boat and the Ship, if they both travel in water is there any difference? IE What is the advantage (normally) to upgrading from a dingy row boat to a full on ship (besides perhaps on ship battles :p ) I know that the airship can travel over everything. This would let me have the player switch from being able to travel just in space, to be able to pass "wormholes' aka different colored blocks that the normal ship couldn't pass.

Most of the game will be set on the main ship that you travel in. Note, this is not the shuttle craft mentioned above. You will start off as a low ranking officer who has never gone on an "away mission". Away missions will include a variety of things. "Text" based options by working the computer systems. Also since the main character starts off at a lower rank, there will be parts of missions that include making choices on what advice you give the Captain. I will make it so there is generally bad advice, and will give no benefit, or negative effects to choosing. Giving better advice (good or evil) will give bonus experience points. Eventually you will become the Commander and the Captain of the starting space ship. If you are Good the two superior officers will take command of another vessel, and if evil they will die or be sold out to a enemy force or some other dastardly thing.

    Other Features

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The ability to choose a better than average class. These will be similar classes (Medical/Mechanical/Tactical/Science) but with much better stats and faster leveling. When you become Commander you also become the head X officer aboard the starship. When you become Captain you will have a chance to switch your class, into a super version of the original class. Evil players will gain party members with better than average and Commander level classes.

    (Missions)

You will continuously acquire and complete "missions" which would be the equivalent of a town in a normal RPG. (When Captain more choices will be made as to which missions you take)

    Types include:

Resupplying by going to a space station or by taking the transport/shuttle to a planet.

Investigating distress signals. Some will be fake, some won't. If they are real this might mean going to the ship, station or planet and investigating.

Fighting off boarding parties, or boarding enemy ships

Diplomatic missions. This includes making alliances with known races as well as first contact.

Having the main starship being stolen and having to work your way off of a planet and get it back.

The classic, being thrown in prison/jail while your crew finds evidence that proves your innocence.

    (Factions)

There will be at least 5 factions. 2 of them will be main opposing forces. I'm hoping I can find a portrait picture of some aliens, because I will never be able to draw one :p However the character animation sprites shouldn't be very hard once I can figure out how to make the background (white area on Paint (willing to download a free program to do this)) into transparency. One of the factions will be liked by all the rest, but the main 2 factions will only deal with you if you've handled them properly (IE Don't say the wrong thing to them) if you have an alliance with one of the main 2 you will always be welcome, but never allowed to go back to the other factions area.

    (Alignment)

Having Good and Evil choices, with different rewards. Good would have a choice of more Allies to create a better team for the next mission (by saving people) but Evil players . Also players who chose Good would be able to go back to a saved location, where Evil would have cut their ties. The benefit for Good would be the ability to go back and purchase new special equipment unavailable before, at a discounted price for the stores, while Evil players would acquire better gear/weapons faster (IE Destroy a colony of people to harness the power of some weapon).

-Good: Gains party members frequently. Able to buy all items at a discount and some unavailable to evil.

-Evil: Few but strong party members. Stronger items by far, but the inability to go back to the mission areas.

In addition there will be 2 "super factions" that can only become allies if said Captain has done everything Good/Evil. This will however be optional, and harder to acquire as allies compared to the other factions.

Lastly if anyone has tips or ideas please say something! I'm new to the Forums and to RPG Maker VX ace and I could use some advice.
