  1. What a strange place.

Lettie wakes up in a new place. Her mind is erased, no memory of where she came from. Instead, she finds herself in an Arena, pinned against beasts and fiends alike. But for the most part, everything's fine. There's no one "evil" around, no nefarious plots going on. There are plenty of friends here to keep her company, too.

Still. It's an admittedly odd experience. What’s at the top, anyway?

I made this game for a few reasons:

    1. To challenge myself to make a game using only default assets. Except the font...
    2. To design the combat system, which is reasonably different and unique to the defaults otherwise provided.
    3. To work as a prequel for my next project.
    4. And lastly, to be the first game I made that I can be proud of!

There are a handful of great features:

    • A different set of six stats create a unique combat feeling. The combat in this game was its most intricately crafted feature, with very unique skills and intelligently designed enemies.
    • An interview at the beginning of the game and multiple possible parties ensures no two runs are identical.
    • The game is about two or three hours. A short and sweet journey.
    • There is an "Easy Mode" for players who'd rather relax.
    • Hidden elements can provide a secret ending, alluding to the greater story.

I hope you enjoy it! Feel free to post your thoughts or criticism!

This game belongs to me. Please don't steal it or claim it as your own.
  2. *Steals the game and claims it as his own* >:)

Good game man, it's pretty interesting, though it does get hardcore pretty fast. I'm stuck at the bloodsucker, I don't know if maybe I should grind or something. I spent most of my credits in armor. Also, are you supposed to be locked into one ally once you win a battle with them? Because I can't swap them.

    1. Try attacking the Blood Sucker first, and attacking his minions after. When his health is low, he'll steal life from his allies and kill them for you. But not too low...

    2. You are supposed to be locked with the one ally, yes. There is another one to unlock further along.

I'm glad you like it! If you don't mind me asking, what skills did you wind up with?
  4. Ok, i'll try that now. These are my skills:

    Ha! Wow!

That's a pretty good setup. I hope you can take good advantage of it.

    Best of luck going forward.
  6. This game is great, my newest game is also battle focused but it's not nearly as good as this one. I'm at the second tier now. Are the raspberries supposed to not give credits? Also, I equipped the steel sword and iron gauntlets for a total of +8 to technique but didn't learn anything new. Do I have to get a +10 or something?

EDIT: Oh yeah, and you can get endless reports from the old lady.

EDIT2: There's no way to defeat the rose except maybe dumb luck... or grinding. If you focus on her the plants will blossom and start doing 100+ damage a hit (especially deadly when they decide to use mosquito), while if you try to kill the plants she revives them.

EDIT3: Finally beat her by fighting back the constantly respawning plants and sneaking an extra attack when possible. It was pretty hard, but i managed. One other thing swiftness dagger combo attack was actually weaker tan his regular, but i did notice that my strength went up for either character every now and then, is it related?

The Swiftness Dagger's "Combo Strike" actually always gives you a free turn after. And the Raspberries will give you a buff when you eat their fruit.

And yes, the Rose fight is tough for all the reasons you described. Now you're getting it! Be sure to pay very close attention while fighting; enemies have a lot of tricks up their sleeves, if you haven't noticed.

I'll check out the issue with the old lady reports.
  8. Hi @ScientistWD

I found you do a lot of support on Early Project Feedback, and I ended here. Two questions:

1 I assume for the name's file that is a Mac version?

2 Could you share the font's name? I really liked and I would like to use it on my game, No Longer the Earth. Don't feel obliged, if you want to keep it for yourself I would understand.
  9. Noble @VicWhite,

    1. The font is called "FreePixel" by levelb. It's super cool, right? Easy to read, but still a little retro?

    2. The Mac version of the game is the one labeled "Mac", yes. It's in .zip form because downloads of it would fail otherwise. But if you were to download the other folder (in its entirety, there labeled "SargassoArena") the PC version may be played as well.

Thanks for digging me up! I worked pretty hard on this one.
  10. Exactly, my highly dignified @ScientistWD :p  I tried some retro-styled fonts, but they weren't easy to read...so with your permission I'll try this one for No Longer The Earth.

I downloaded and play it a bit. First of all, Damn Bloodsucker! He is though hehe.

I really enjoyed the combat system. I loved the concept of getting a weak debuff when being on low HP. Congrats. Also, there's some strategies, like using cosmo to get better fighting on the price of not recovering mana.

You settled the basis for an interesting combat strategy concept. ongratulations, is such a merit.
  11. Excellent @VicWhite, of course you may use the font! I could hardly keep for myself something I didn't even make!

I'm glad that you enjoyed the game. Thank you very much for playing.
  12. Thanks a lot my dignified @ScientistWD

It's perfect pixel font for a retro-styled sci-fi game; and in green color is even better, believe me.

I really enjoyed the combat system, really! Will you use it for a bigger project? Because honestly is one of the best concepts I tried.
  13. I'm working on the next game right now! More skills (probably more than three times more), more weapons (craftable weapons), more stories and more enemies. Half the reason I made this game was to prototype the next one. Everything I learned should make "Sargasso 2" even better.

The default MV graphics are really holding me back, though. But the prospect of drawing everything myself is just as daunting! Plus, I'd want to make the music, too!

Do enjoy the font, as well. I've checked out your game and it does look like a perfect fit! All the more reason I couldn't keep it to myself.
  14. It says its damaged when I try to download the Mac version, and  can't open it.
