  1. Heyo, wasn't sure where to ask about this and have googled it tons to try and find an answer but it hasn't helped, thus I am posting it here.

I recently discovered the RPG Maker series of gaming and got interested in playing them, downloaded one to play, installed the VXAce RTP and it worked, real fun to play. Following that, I decided to try another game, Enelysion on the site caught my interest, albeit this used the earlier VX RTP. Still downloaded the game, got the RTP, however when I tried to run the game it wouldn't work.

The window opens for the game, but all that appears is black, no response, nothing to click on and no warnings. I tried playing it without the RTP installed and it asked for the RTP data so I reinstalled again, still didn't work. Since then, I downloaded various different games that run on the same RTP, but they all respond the same way, black blank screen, no warnings, nothing to interact with, no response to right/left click.

What exactly is happening here that stops all the games from the same RTP from running? VXAce games seem to work just fine, but the VX will not run anything, is there something I am missing here? I only have very limited knowledge on this stuff, so I don't know if I am simply missing a basic step or not, but would like advice on how to solve this problem.

My system runs on Windows 8 as well, so I don't know if that is an issue or not as the VXAce RTP links up just fine to the games it's compatible with. Again, any advice would be appreciated, Thank you. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I very rarely approach forums so I'm not certain if this is how it works or not. I don't know if this is something as simple as a system setting or an issue with the RTP itself.
  2. It looks like either the RTP is installed to a folder where the games have no access rights, or that you're using a damaged RTP library.

Deinstall the current VX RTP, redownload the it, right-click to install it with admin rights.

If that doesn't change the effect, go to the RTP folder, right-click it and add read-access to everyone for that folder.
  3. Tried de-install/redownload/reinstall admin, no change at all. However, I am unsure as to how to change it's Read-Access, there is no such option that's clearly labelled as such. Any such attempts to modify anything with *read* in it has been met with the same success as before though, no change.

I am using the RTP straight from the RPG Maker site by the way, so there shouldn't be any issues I'd assume........
  4. read access is a windows option on the folder, it isn't part of any name.

And unfortunately I don't know how exactly it's named in english windows versions.

You need to find the property-window of the folder that lists rights to groups like owner, admin and so on, and there should either be an option for a name "everyone" or you have to add it, with read-access as minimum.

This is NOT part of the RPG-Maker or the RTP itself, and it indicates that the user accass rights on your windows had been reduced in the past (probably by some protection program).
  5. Well, tried again, it seems the folders are already Read-Only and have no such restriction on them.....so that's probably not the issue. Tried running in compatibility mode too, that did nothing either. So far, still just blank black screen on start up with no changes.
  6. which VX games have you downloaded from where? Perhaps the problem is with the games, not with the RTP...
  7. Where did you install the RTP and where did you install the games?

When you provide the list Andar requested, please include links to the games, not just the titles.
  8. The RTP is installed to C/Program files (X84)/Common Files/Enterbrain/RGSS2/RPVX

All games are still in the Download section of the folders, but since the VXAce games work from there I assumed that's not a problem.

    Enelysion

    http://rpgmaker.net/games/2985/downloads/

    Heartache 101 v2.5

(not 100% on where I got this, was trawling randomly and stumbled on it.....but there is a link I found elsewhere)

    http://rpgmaker.net/games/3229/downloads/

    Demon Tower

    http://rpgmaker.net/games/878/downloads/

    Avarice

    http://rpgmaker.net/games/1722/downloads/

As you can see, pretty much all came straight from the RPGmaker site itself excluding Heartache 101, honestly have no idea where I found it but I think it was the page for whoever made it as it had a large database of custom add-ons made by players to slot in.

Now Avarice was loaded up with it's own standalone RTP, yet even with the RTP that came part and parcel with the download the game would not run, so I'm sincerely bemused about the situation and why they refuse to work. Is there an unknown compatibility issue I am not seeing here? A setting I am unaware of somewhere? Like I stated my OS is Windows 8, so does anybody know if this would present a problem?
  9. Yeah, probably an error with your computer. I just installed the VX RTP and tested Enelysion and it worked fine for my windows 7 laptop
  10. Have you had anyone else try the games out with Windows 8? I am not quite sure, but it could always be the newer system. That's, at least, my guess, since the VXAce games are done with a newer RPGMaker series program than VX.
  11. Can you try having a different path for the RTP?

I vaguely recall reading that RPG Maker has occasional issues accessing things in Program Files (something to do with Windows permissions?).
