  1. All right, guys.

I am trying to give a disc (just a cd-rom, nothing special) to some friends with an rpg on it.

The problem is, it won't save! I am guessing it has something to do with the save location.

It doesn't crash the game when trying to save, just makes the "no" sound.

    Any help here?
  2. The only things I can think of is that:

    1) Either the disk is defective/sealed so you need a new blank disk.

    or

    2) That you need to first save to another location and then transfer the file to disk rather than trying to save to it directly.

    *EDIT*

Reading other people's responses and looking back at the original post, I think I might have misread the problem. I thought it was saving the game files to the disk for them to install from, not to run FROM the disk and save game's save-files to it..
  3. Saving data to a CD in general doesn't work. Especially if it isn't re-writable, you can't delete information once it's on it. Just take it off the CD and it should work fine.
  4. copy the compressed game data to the cd. The extract the game to your friends computers. Then you don't have to make a cd for every one of your friends. I've done this and it works. Just compress the game data including the rtp data. then put the compressed data on the disc.
  5. try a dvd instead of cd maybe you are using up too much of the memory for the game itself and don't have enough room for the saves.
  6. You people are too accustomed to USB memories, flash cards and hard disks. And diskettes.

You know that you can't write on CDs and DVDs without the proper software, right? Like, you burn a CD, maybe using Windows's interface (at least I remember doing it on XP). But regular programs can't write directly on CDs. And way less overwrite files. CDs aren't rewrittable by default. The information is burned on its surface, with a laser, so it's pretty impossible to change it. Unless we are talking about rewrittable CDs, which need specific software to write and erase anyway.

So, yeah. Copy the files in a hard drive. Long story short, you can't save files in CDs. Only by the process known as "burning".
  7. lol! ^^ this!

You can't make your game write to a CD or DVD.
  8. I keep all my rpg maker games on a usb. But you can't have the game itself on the cd. Like I said you can put the compressed game data on the cd and then download it to your friend's device.
  9. Oh, ok.

Looks unsolvable, I guess I'll just tell the friends to extract the game to their computers. ;P
