  1. Hi there.

Hope I can post this here.
I am want to build a Social Network web page for RPG Makers. Advise ! is not a forum. For me, there's a lot of forums out there and this forum makes the job.

    Objectives:

    > Build a Social Network exclusively for RPG Maker
    > No forum
    > No Ads
    > Extra, news about RPG games in general outside of RPG Maker world
    > Ideas?

The actual domain is RPGMaker.co, right now there's a testing platform installed (Humhub).
Alternative domain for test purposes. Blavkm.com (Mastodon)

So, I want to test two platforms (Humhub and Mastodon)

Some differences are: in the actual domain the Humhub allow me to use Spaces (Groups), that makes easy to create a channel exclusive for something specify, for example, News or RPG Maker MV...

The Mastodon is like more twitter, and the advantage is that can be connected to other Mastodon servers. (interesting)

I wanted some help on testing and choosing the web platform. I don't want to centralize the platform, like a news page as I said before, I want to focus on Social Network style.
if someone wants to test the platforms visit:

    https://rpgmaker.co
    https://blavkm.com

If you want to check an actual web platform with more content check

    https://community.humhub.com/dashboard for Humhub and
    https://mastodon.social/about for Mastodon

    about insides:

there's going to be limitations on uploads: (reduce bandwidth)

    type: jpg
    max size: 2mb

I am open to any ideas, critics and support.

    Thanks.

  2. 'General Discussion' is for looking at broad themes of making games. A social network doesn't fall into that category.
    [move]General Lounge[/move]
  3. Why not just make a page on facebook? You'll probably reach more people that way.
  4. What do you plan on doing with this? I mean the difference between your website and this forum for example? This forum already handles communication, news, requests, resources, etc.

It's still pretty cool what you're doing. I like it.
  5. I like the rpgmaker.co logo. :)

With all of the stuff that Facebook has been doing politically, financially and socially lately it's not a great place to be at the moment. User usage and stock is at an all time low and unless you're cool with them knowingly selling your information and data to less then reputable companies.

If it's just to get information across then you're going to want to go to where people are and have an easy way to share that information. My personal preference is Mastodan, because I have some experience with on it and isn't an commercial network.
  8. @Uzuki I know Facebook is taking quite some heat, but isn't it still one of the biggest platform? Even most people are still suspicious of Facebook, they keep using it.

That's true the overall idea is to get out of social networks and focus on one exclusively, I have a group and fan page on facebook for the page, just for the presence purpose..am, and twitter too. @rpgmakerco

Well, the main difference as I see is that here we can discuss in more deeply, I see the Social Network like a Spotlight, for example. Show projects, galleries, and short discussions.

You should tell us a reason why we should even care about a new site, because I see no reason for this.

You need to keep in mind that despite everything else, this is a community based on and for creators - game developers and content developers. As such a lot of us have a different approach to the internet than that of a casual network.

if you don't give a reason or a value/advantage we would have from such a site, you won't get much users there...

If you want to add something, use the Edit button on your earlier post and add the additional info/comment. If you want to quote more than one person, use the MultiQuote button.

You right, for that a reason I asked suggestions, for me as I said a see as a Spotlight. About an added value the Mastodon give us the opportunity to stay on own network and interact with others. That open an opportunity to promote projects with people in other interests, for example in Mastodon there's a lot of servers about artists, musicians, developers and gamers. And that allow us interactions with people out of the RPG Maker scene.
  14. But everything you said is already done here on this website - why should we go somewhere else as well?
each additional place is more workload for us, another place to present or whatever. So what do we get in return for that work?

There is project presentation here on this forum, and here we know that there are already thousands of other users seeing that. A new website would have zero additional followers at the beginning.

In one case you say the advantage would be to have a connected network while staying on your own - but most people here don't even have their own website, that's why they use this forum for presentations.

at the moment you have only vague comments on how this would help - but to get somewhere, you'll need to state facts and not hopes. That is one of the differences I meant when mentioning the different clientele here on this forum.
Another is that most people here are single developers, they don't have someone who devotes time to stay current through social networks (that's something that is only common for companies that have several employees)
  15. If you're looking for a spotlight kind of website, that would concern a lot more gamers than game developers.
  16. Imo, better try to copy Tinder so it would be easier for game devs to contact freelancers on mobile. At the moment everyone is scattered, heck I always wanted to hire someone from Pixiv but never found anyone who do commission yet I still saw cool artists in hentai rpgs on Steam, lol.
  17. @Chaos17 Is a good idea, maybe Mastodon works better for this purpose.
@MushroomCake28 that can be a better way to handle as Spotlight, for gamers or hobbyist that actually don't develop. So, the devs focus more on promo the game and with the option to keep contact with other networks.
  18. Maybe misunderstand, when I say "our own network" I mean all members of the site with they own profile in the same server. For example: Let's assume that Mastodon is installed on RPGMaker.co and there's the other instance about Musicians totally independent on blavkm.com.

So, any user from RPGMaker.co can contact with any user from blavkm.com without the need to create a new account on blavkm.com

Whit this I want to be clear that is not necessary to everyone build own server.
