RMMV Deployment issues

  1. In a nutshell: Deployment isn't working. Thank you for taking the time to review this problem, it means a lot to me. The program itself works really well, I have created the beginnings of my game and one small test game. However, though the play tests always go smoothly and I have worked out the bugs to my satisfaction, the problem comes when I deploy the game to windows. (I haven't needed to try the other formats yet since the game isn't complete.) When I was just testing the product for free the deployments went smoothly, but since I purchased it I always receive the same error message: "Failed to create a distribution package."

So I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but that didn't work.

I was eventually able to successfully create the game by doing a manual copy and paste of the plugins and character art directly into the deployed game folder, though it took a few tries.

Is there any way to fix it so that game deployment will work again on its own?

    PS in case it helps:

The only plugins I am using are the YEP_EventChasePlayer, the YED_LunaBattleConfig and the YED_LunaEngine. I did try to do a mini game without any plugins and that didn't work, either.
  2. Since a lot of other people have successfully deployed to windows, android and more, the cause has to be something on your computer.

Best guesses at the moment are either background programs blocking access (antivirus for example) or a user access restriction.

Can you give us more info about your computer (which windows, which background programs, which exact steps (including to which path) you tried to deploy?
  3. I have Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. For antivirus I run Norton antivirus 360 premiere as well as Spybot search and destroy 2.3.

When I deploy I go within RMMV to File/Deployment..., and select Windows under platform and the path I use is C:\Users\Me\Documents\Output and then I hit OK. It seems to get as far as Img/Faces when it stops and shows the exclamation yield sign abd the error message which reads "Failed to create a distribution package."

It's weird because the first few times I had no problem, but since purchasing RMMV I do. Perhaps by purchasing it, something within the program was changed to where my system now refuses it?

I don't think it is something isolated, I got the same problem.

It looks to me the deployment has trouble recognizing some files. Mine stops at a certain character image file. I wonder if there are hidden rules in the deployment.

Overall the global solution is to start a new default project and swap the files later on.

But this is just so frustrating. I think something needs to be done on the program itself to improve the compatibility and allows more customization.

for my special case I think the problem is that I have character sprites with filenames starting with % (for using custom plugin)

The project runs fine on pc (after deployment), and test mode. But on mobile it will say "failed to load character/xxxx.png and won't run. It also won't deploy to either pc or android.

I hope at least there will be an official post explaining the "to-do" and "not-to-do" for deployment and crossplatforms, if there is no plan in improving the RMMV itself
  5. Yes, it has been shown in the time since my post above that illegal characters (letters and symbols that are not allowed in network/web environments) block deployment even if Windows accepts them.

I suggest you reconfigure that plugin to use another symbol than % for identifying its files, you won't get that through deployment.

And that can't be changed - even if the editor would ignore that and deploy with the %, the resulting game will not run in either the browsers or in the exe's (which are basically browsers wrapped around the HTML data.
  6. Problem solved! Andar was right, I deleted a virus protector that I no longer needed (and didn't realize I still had) and the problem went away. I still have Spybot and Norton and they seem to be just fine letting me make games. I'm glad since this will save me so much time.

    Thanks, everybody!
  7. Oh, Guys, thanks to all.
I think I've risolved all my problems.
I'm Italian, and I'm using the program in Italiano, so when I went to File, "deployment" translated very bad... It's translated "Apertura" (Opening, in Italian).

I think now I'm okay, thanks to all :D
