Resisting the urge to make a Power Rangers game...

I've been here for a couple weeks and it looks like I'm here to stay. My name is Bryan, as in my username. I'm a writer and an aspiring filmmaker and TV producer. I work as a video editor for a local production company. I'm a huge wrestling fan and I've been a huge Power Rangers fan since I was 4. RPG Maker has me itching to make a Power Rangers game, but I'm trying to fight that urge since I have original ideas to work on.


I've been surprised and humbled by the amount of help I've received with my game in such a short amount of time. And I'm blown away by the amount of people eager to just help. Whether it's artwork, music, coding, or just answering basic questions, everyone here is so generous.

If you want to make a Power Rangers type of game, I say go for it. Then put your own original spin on it!

It's a great community, honestly. As for Power Rangers, I agree with rue. That new movie in the works is also going to breathe a lot of life back into it, as well, so why not?

Maybe I will after my other projects.


I'm pumped for the new movie. The show is still going strong, too.

XD ...I've had a sort of parody idea for a Power Ranger-ish game =3 . It's a sort Final Fantasy / power Ranger spin off. You play as at team of young persons who stumble upon a sentient crystal (the "zordon") and the obtain the power to transform into warriors based off the triditional various color mages from ff, and each one tied to and can summon a specific eidolun as their mega zord, and the "silver ranger" would be like "the summoner ranger" or something and could summon all of the other ranger zords and a special one specific to it....it would be AWESOME!!!.... of course, there's that pesky copy right infringement things.....sigh...what could be.... TwwwT 

...that sounds amazing!

If youre not directly using the power rangers trademarks, or final fantasy, then there really isnt any copyright infringement going on here. 


You just got to be a little creative in your naming of things. 


Mages instead of Rangers would be fine for example. Familiars/Djinn/Spirits/Gaia/anything really instead of Zords...


and so forth.

Can I be the villain in honor of Team Evil?

While I liked them when I was younger I'm a bit against fan games in general, why not creating your own universe instead?


Maybe using them as inspiration, you will have more freedom in that way, but that's just my opinion so feel free to ignore me.

Base it on the old Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from the 90's. Of course, this villain (Rita) needs to be in the game.

lol I was always terrified of Rita when I was a kid, she reminded me so much about an old aunt I used to hate, hahaha.

I only watched power ranges briefly as a child, I really didn't get into it. I don't really like the idea of fan games as they will never live up to the source material and the energy spent making it could have been used to make something more creative that takes inspiration from the original film/game/show, etc...

that'd be so boss if you made a power rangers-esque game. I loved all the super sentai-like shows that came out - my fave was Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, but I also enjoyed VR Troopers, Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog, Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills, Masked Rider and Big Bad Beetleborgs - and of course all the power rangers series (yes, I have watched EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!). I even had games i could get my hands on for genesis at the time (namely power rangers and vr troopers. I was bummed when i couldn't get samurai syber squad), and I even tracked down power rangers 15th anniversary collection for ps2, but sob! it got stolen....


just don't make your rangers as bad as the 90s version (black ranger is African, yellow ranger is Asian, and pink, blue, and red ranger are Caucasian kids, green ranger is Hispanic... Nothing wrong with multicolor casting, but no, please, no for the love of humanity don't do that.) Please, please, please, please make this game! I want to buy it! (really, I want to!) i'd make it myself but I don't have time lolz!

Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog! Holy , that would be an awesome game. And I could take it so many directions the show wasn't able to go.

I say go for it! I'm more a fan of the original Japanese super sentai, but it's nearly the same thing!
