When her younger sister is kidnapped from their home, a Barmaid sets off to rescue her. Along with a mysterious boatman who might be more than he seems, she sets off across the river and into a vast, unknown (to her) land, determined to get her sister back, no matter what, or who, she must face.

    Characters

    Spoiler
    ISOLDE

A barmaid in a small rural town. Her fighting skills are most self taught and honed through years of breaking up rowdy bar fights. She loves her younger sister dearly and will do whatever she can to save her.

    ISABELLE

Isolde's younger sister, she displays some talent for magic, but not enough be considered dangerous. She spends her days looking for herbs and vegetables in the forest, or cooking and cleaning the home she shares with her sister. She does not know why she has been kidnapped.

    TRISTAN

A mysterious boatman who has set himself up as a ferryman to take people across the river. As the land there is not safe, he rarely gets customers, which is fine with him. No one knows what he did before he settled by the river. For reasons only known to himself, he joins Isolde in trying to find her sister.

  2. UPDATE 1

I've been working hard trying to plan out how I'm going to do this game and exactly what I want in it. So here's what I've been doing since I set up this page.

    1. Fleshed out the storyline. It will be a short game, 4 dugeons, 3 explorable area's, and a minimal cast.

    2. Finished all exterior mapping for the first explorable area.

    3. Considering the use of puzzles and mini games within the game itself.

    4. Day/Night style system

Now, number 3 is an interesting point, and one I would like some feedback on. I enjoy puzzles in games, provided they aren't too difficult to solve, but personally I find mini games to be a bit annoying (mostly because I spend ages playing the mini games--DAMN YOU FF7 and FF13-2). But I had an idea for a mini game for the start of the game.

At a certain point the main character Isolde and Tristan the boatman must join forces to get across the wide river so Isolde can truely start her quest to save her sister. I was thinking of making it a sort of avoiding game... where there are peices of driftwood and rocks and you have to navigate through. Now, the thing is. Which would be better do  you think. That if the player miscalculates and crashes they go back to the start and try again, or when they crash they still end up on the other side of the river, but lose something (items, the boat, hp).

Number four also proves interesting. Where possibly you have the choice to stop for the night, sleep and continue on in the morning, or you press on and maybe get attacked by wild animals that your campfire would have kept at bay. Or choosing to break out of captivity or something at night will reduce the number of opponants faced... would this be an interesting concept to anyone?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and hopefully I'll be back with another update soon!
  3. UPDATE 2

Working out the logistics of a river crossing puzzle thing is actually a lot harder than I thought it would be... Which means, unfortunately, I have been unable to get much more of the game done (between real life stuff and other things). I am working on things, but it's very slow going.

Just figured an update would be a good idea as it's been a while. With luck I will have much more to resport on my mext update!
  4. You can do it! I believes in you!
  5. Update number 3.

I have been very busy the last while, getting my book published and settling down to get back into the swing of mapping as well as what feels like hundreds of little real life issues that have been impacting my attempts at game making. But, I am back at last, and determined to finish what I started.

I am not yet ready to call it quits to the poll just yet, though I am rather glad to see that the majority of votes so far seem to be for my preferred time based option for the game, which will be fin to implment!, however the boat mini game is fairly even overall at the moment, and I would love to see some further votes to see if the result will definately be what I'm seeing right here.

Unfortunately my entire update is just myself confirming that I am back. I intend to do some mapping tonight to further the game. I would like to have the maps done as soon as possible so I can work the rest of the game around them in terms of cutscenes and puzzles. I have the basic plot completely sorted. I just have to be careful not to do what I always do and add too much stuff to it as I go. I shall try to update further with some more maping progress!

Well, here's a start to my mapping progress. Bandit Mountain. Well, the begining of it anyway. This is a short video of some screen shots put together to show my mapping. I think I missed the opportunity to screenshot it at some parts, but overall I'm pretty happy. I may have to do this with more maps.
