Hi everyone! Hope everything's going well! My name is Jimmy (aka Lifestorm), and it's really nice to meet you all. I've always been a fan of Tactical RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem ever since I was young, and I've recently started on working on Miasma, a non-commercial RPG Maker project made using GubiD's Tactical Battle System Engine. GubiD, this is one of the greatest battle scripts that I have ever witnessed in the history of RPG Maker, and thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to your TBS project!!
Please note that Miasma is still in its early stages of development (please skip to the "Recruitment" section of the post for more info). Based on my original outline, Miasma's story will be told in a Fire-Emblem style "Chapter" format, in which long cutscenes lead up to climactic battles in each chapter. I will also be instituting a "side quest" system in which players can opt to embark on challenging bonus chapters after fulfilling certain conditions in the main storyline. I'm already written out Miasma's main storyline, and at the rate things are going, this game will probably consist of 27 chapters, not including side quests.
Now, on to the good stuff!
The Story
Spoiler
“You’ve read the history books.
You know what happened to the Roman Empire.
You know what happened to the British Empire.
You know what happened to the United States of America.
I swear on my very life that the same will NEVER happen to our Beloved Nation of Caelum.
Place your trust in the Front for Faith, and in your brothers and sisters in the Armed Forces.
Together, we will not simply endure. We will prevail.”
Ramón Janus Vera
President of the Republic of Caelum
New Year’s Eve, 2099
Sebastian Clarke is no stranger to solitude. After all, when you’re an orphan living in the slums of District 27 of Caelum’s capital city, there’s no time to care about loneliness when you’re far more worried about your next meal and hiding from the lawless gangs wandering the destitute alleyways. But Sebastian’s life is turned upside down when he finds a young girl passed out by the side of the road. The girl, Rain, explains that she managed to escape from one of the military’s Clandestine Detention Facilities against all odds. However, she doesn’t remember anything except her name. Strangely, she’s also somehow able to use magic, a privilege reserved only for members of the Caelean Elite.
When military personnel break into Sebastian’s home, Sebastian and his childhood friend, Valentina, realize that Caelum’s ruling military junta is critically interested in Rain, and will do anything to take her back into custody. Though Valentina, and Rain are detained by the military, Sebastian is rescued by the Diadem, a rebel organization planning to overthrow the military government and restore democratic rule.
The Diadem makes a deal with Sebastian. They’ll help Sebastian rescue Valentina and Rain. In exchange, the Diadem will disguise Sebastian as a recruit at Caelum’s most prestigious military academy, and together, they’ll attempt to take down the regime from the inside.
Slowly, the true nature of Rain’s past becomes clear, and as a deadly conspiracy begins to unfold, Sebastian realizes that taking down the military junta is going to be the least of his worries. No, there are greater powers at work. Powers that threaten to destroy the entire world. Powers that President Vera will do anything to harness to obtain his ultimate desire: immortality.
The Setting
Spoiler
Miasma takes place in the Republic of Caelum, a military dictatorship led by President Ramón Janus Vera, the Supreme Commander of the Caelean People's Army. Twenty years ago, Caelum's democratic government faced a severe economic decline coupled with weak, indecisive leadership by President Kenneth Roland. Vera's political party, the "Front for Faith," overthrew Roland and consolidated power in a coup d'etat, promising an immediate economic recovery and higher living standards for the citizens of Caelum.
Vera suspended the legislature, instituted martial law, and limited higher education and the use of magic exclusively to Caelum's new political and military elite. Since Vera took power, Caelum's economy has only worsened and the gap between the rich and poor has drastically widened.

Recruitment!!
Spoiler
Alright, and now for the awesome part! I'm looking for some team members to help me out with this project and hopefully have some fun while we're at it! I'm treating Miasma as a side project that I'm working on between college and work, so deadlines are going to be really flexible. Once again, I'm aiming for a chapter by chapter approach to designing the game, so maybe we can set up a time for everyone to submit materials for each new chapter along the way, maybe once every two weeks or something like that? Again, we can definitely play it by ear depending on everyone's personal schedules.
Here are the positions I am currently recruiting for. Some of these are pretty unique and only require basic familiarity with RPG Maker VX Ace, so definitely check these out if you're interested in getting involved with a great team!
Anyways, thanks so much for reading this thread! Here's how to get involved in the team (read the application form section)!

Spriter/Pixel Artist: (1 vacancy)
Caedmon

I'm looking for someone who might be able to help me design modern and futuristic tilesets later on in the game's development. Please let me know if you're interested! I'll probably wind up needing one or two spriters/pixel artists.
Artist/Graphic Designer: (1 vacancy)
LSirius

I can't draw for my life... haha. Anyways, I'm looking for one or two artists or graphic designers to help me out in designing the game's title screen, as well as graphics in certain certain story related cutscenes. This should be a really laid back position, so what are you waiting for? Please let me know haha.
Writer: [FILLED]
Barzini
So... this is going to be a long game, and though I already scenarios for every chapter of Miasma planned out, I could definitely use some feedback on the storyline! Additionally, I haven't even started looking at possible story ideas for side quests, so it would be awesome if someone could suggest ideas for those additional scenarios. Additionally, it would be great to have a writer help out with some emotional scenes for a possible romance between Sebastian and Valentina haha. Please let me know if you're interested.
Musician: (1 vacancy)
Ziggy_Grover

I need battle music and original background tracks for cutscenes. Woot!
Tactical Combat Level Designer
Tactical Combat Scenario Mapper
(2 vacancies)

___________________
So, these are really unique positions. Though I am capable of programming combat scenarios using GubiD's TBS, I need a lot of help with combat level design, preferably from someone who is a big fan of Tactical RPGs and has had significant experience playing games with similar battle systems. I'd love some input on where it would be best to have enemies spawn, how maps should be streamlined to maximize tactical depth, when to implement certain victory or failure conditions, and how to improve the storyline's compatibility with certain combat scenarios. Also, if you're really good at mapping in general (doesn't matter if you're familiar with Tactical RPGs or not), we want you on the team, and we can create a special position just for you! Please let me know if you're interested, and I might be recruiting more than two people because tactical combat is such a critical part of this project.
Beta Testers:
As this project is still in its preliminary stages of development, I will not be recruiting any beta testers at this time. However, if you wind up in another position on the team, chances are, we'll probably be testing combat scenarios a lot of times together, which should be a lot of fun.
My Management and Leadership Style:
Last but not least, I'd like to clarify some things about my management style. If we do wind up working together, then I will treat you as an equal and take into consideration everything you have to say, regardless of whether or not I disagree. I believe that allowing everyone to voice their opinions is the key to maximizing the potential of this project and cultivating powerful bonds between team members. Everyone on the team will be fully recognized in the game's credits and we will all have the satisfaction of knowing we accomplished something incredible.Anyways, thanks so much for reading this thread! Here's how to get involved in the team (read the application form section)!
