  1. Hello everyone!

My name is Gene, as you could probably see, and I am looking for someone who can help me do mapping. Although I would like a team make to help me work on this for free, I am willing and able to swap skills if my skills are of any use to you. I can set up the game database, I know a little bit of ruby (I'm still working on it), and I know how to set up semi-complex events. If you are interested, please contact me via PM. I am setting up a github repository for this project as you read this so we can collaborate right away!

    Thank you for your time,

    Gene Petrie
  2. You might want to give a little bit more detail such as what game are they mapping for? What style of mapping will you need? is the game free or commercial? and typically what the game is about. Also,  you might find it hard to get some experienced mappers for free (especially if your game is commercial). I get my mapping done with a team mate with the commercial game we are working on but he gets a take in profits when (and if) our game sells. You might get some mappers willing to do the job for you, but you really need to give more detail.

    Good luck!
  3. Ok, so the game is free. The game is your standard fantasy rpg with one main character. right now I need to make a forest "dungeon" map that players must explore in order to complete certain quest that are particular to that area. I will supply the tilesets and the tileset types from the database if needed. The mappings style I try to go with is like a basic old style pokemon look with a little added detail. sorta like the idea "less is more" but instead of less, I use a moderate amount of detail in the maps. I map the maps I started with but now that I need to make a dungeon, I can't seem to set one up properly. I hope this clears things up a little. albeit, this is a small project for the time being.
  4. Oh I see, your using the database to map. We use parallax mapping which is a bit different from what you describe. I wouldn't mind giving you a few tricks I picked up but my style is different so I'm not sure how much help I would be. xD

Here is a quick tip for dungeons. Don't make the path straight forward. be sure to diversify the path a bit and add obstacles on the main path that players must overcome (such as a locked gate, mini boss, alternate route, etc. Finally, not every area has to have a purpose but to many areas like that are not good.

Hope I was able to help in any way ^^.
  5. here are some screen shots of what I have so far. and yes, im sure you'll ask, "Hey these are decent, so why do you need a mapper?" well, two reasons. 1.) my time is very limited and mapping takes me a very long time since I am sort of a perfectionist 2.) Since im working alone, I have to do the entire database, set up all the scripts im using, set up the main plot and the events to go with it. That in and of itself is a head ache from the void. so having someone else take care of the mapping would decrease my work load quite a lot.

  6. Just passing by... :p

:o Those are pretty good non-parallax maps. It'd be quite difficult to find some guy with that level but good luck to you! I know making a game takes lots of time :(
  7. ok, um...since I see people talking about "parallaxed maps" what are they and can someone show me one?
  8. it's a lazy man's maping. Basically you just draw a picture and set boundries
