    F.A.Q.

What is Legacy? Legacy is a fantasy RPG focused around the turmoil of Illyria, a mystical land that is under the control of The Shadowborn. The overall story line is still in development.

What engine is Legacy made on? Hymns of Illyria is going to be made using the RPG Maker VX Ace engine.

Is this a serious project? Of course it is, and with this intent comes quite a few challenges and hurtles that we must overcome. Development could take up to a year or two to finish.

What should I expect to see from this project? Hymns of Illyria is going to be a fantasy RPG that will be made in a similar fashion to the older Final Fantasy games, in the way that there's an evil villain, some dungeons and a good guy that has to run through all of the challenges he is faced with in order to save the world from total destruction. Legacy will have it's own unique characters, plot and setting, though, so don't worry about copyright issues with us. Originality will be key to our success.

What features should I expect to be present in this game? Hymns of Illyria will boast a few new features, and a few old ones. These include, but are not limited to, the Sapphire Battle System, a bazaar to sell items and craft more powerful versions, an in-depth puzzle system within the dungeons of the game, a Massive Open World Format and a deep story that is sure to captivate and entrance you into the world of Illyria.

What, or who, are you looking for to help you with Legacy's development? Well, all good RPGs need a team of artists, scripters, character designers, script-writers, voice-actors (okay, maybe not voice actors for this) and such, so that is also what I am looking for. There will be roles that will need to be filled, each with their own special areas of designing for the game. See the 'Cast & Crew' section for more.

What are your plans for Legacy, as far as pricing goes? The Development team has decided that our first game will be free, even if further games within the series will not be. If you would like to donate to the team for aid in the projects, you may do so. Contact NathanW if you wish to Donate. While Hymns of Illyria will be free, there may be add-ons that may not be, but these will always be cost-effective, and no more than $10.00 for a full release or $2.00 for a DLC-type addition to an existing game. We will strive to make games of the utmost quality, regardless of whether they are free or not.

    The Story Behind It All
    Spoiler
    New Story in development...
    Character Bios

     (Soon To Be Renamed) Protagonist
The main character. A student of the blade and a manipulator of magic, this young man found himself strewn in the midst of the chaos that broke the realm. He will find it to be a difficult path, with plenty of puzzles to solve, people to meet and evil to beat. He travels with Syrea, an elven archer.

    Syrea
An elvish woman who was saved by Loki and travels with him in debt of her life to him. She is a capable healer and uses the bow in battle. Very quiet and introverted, she has very few lines in the game, but she does a lot to help the party out.

    Mysterious Kitsune
No one knows who this lady is, but she has begun a hunt that will end in only one way. Though she is a master of stealth and assassinry, she lacks the means to hide from our heroes forever. It is only a matter of time before she is seen.

    Fayte
"The goddess Fayte was once mortal like us, but she shed her mortal shell upon the fall of Illyria long ago, to watch over us from the heavens. It was she who split the Dark Tablet into four and entrusted them to the guardian temples. It was she who brought us the light." -An old proverb on Fayte, Goddess of the Light.

    Example of Indro:

Every choice can have multiple outcomes, resulting in the creation of parallel worlds. We cannot see the other outcomes once we have made a choice.

Some people seek to rid their mistakes of the past, but deem it impossible. But, what if, you were able to see through parallel universes. Would you use it to save the world or bring it to an end?

Demo of your work:  When Thomas gasped awake a few moments later, it was to the strangest sensation. His chest felt lighter. Lighter than it had been since before he'd been old enough to understand what the weight meant.  Slowly, as if to be sure he wasn't still unconscious and this was all some fantastical dream, he looked down at himself and nearly passed out again.

Gone. They were gone! Tentatively, he started examining himself. His arms and legs were longer, his hair was shorter, his torso broader. It was... amazing.

He looked backed and looked at his companions in awe and asked disbelievingly,"How?"

As one, they silently pointed at the person standing next to his now risen form. When he turned to look, he found Croydon, smiling at him and holding their mums pendant in his open palm.

His grin grew at the uncomprehending look on Thomas's face, then he shrugged and said, "Elton said that the power to use the pendant came from mums bloodline. I figured, you're not the only son she had. "

Thomas could only stare at him in disbelief.  Then he threw his arms around his brother and whispered, "Thank you."

You should know that the map and the story belong to two different projects.

A poem I wrote that won some contest in High School.

    Where Has the Sun Gone?

    The clouds have aligned,

    in malign,

to block the glow of a beautiful star,

that brightens the day for all people near and far.

I see them, all too well,

    And now I can tell,

    That they will not budge.

    So I continue life's day-to-day trudge.

But why do I go on?

Because I know one day the clouds will be gone.

After all, this is just another storm,

and I know the sun will be back to make us all feel warm.
Evil is the new good, darling. It fits all colors and goes GREAT with everything.

-Mirabelle Gloss (A witch in a project I'm working on)
All was quiet in the ruins of the former Ilyevan research facility. The sounds of gunfire and explosives had come to an abrupt halt. Scattered among the snowy plain were chunks of neosteel rubble and corpses charred as black as ink. Just a day before a powerful blizzard enveloped these lands with blinding whiteness, but now it was nothing more than a flurry.

-Excerpt from Shining Star (A story I'm writing)
Here's a (very) short story I wrote recently. Sorry for the formatting, the forum seems to not like indentation.

Night and Day - A Very Short Story
Night time had just arrived in the jungle, the time where the bush babies open their wide eyes and stretch off their daytime nap. The crickets began their routine chirping and the sound of aardvarks trotting across the jungle floor echoed past the trees. The daylight was gone, but a whole new world awakened with its absence.

There was one young monkey who remained awake in the night hours. He swung from vine to vine, occasionally stopping on a branch to catch his breath. The monkey stopped on a branch and picked up a stick. He slowly moved the stick around inside a bees nest and pulled it out. As he treated himself to a late night meal, he noticed a large and unusual area that was devoid of foliage.

The young primate hopped down off his branch and proceeded into the clearing. There were large intimidating stone pillars divided by pathways made of solid tar. He looked around in awe at the gargantuan structures. The light of the moon shined directly on him. “Oh great moon, who made these pillars? How did they get here?” the monkey asked.

“I am old and my memory is weak...” the moon replied, “I remember oh so little about the creatures that created these.” He turned his great face directly at the monkey. “They were powerful and numerous creatures, they built these pillars during their great reign.” he continued “But in my years I’ve seen many creatures come and go in what seems like mere moments; as if it were as routine as the alternation of day and night.”

“Do you remember their names?” the monkey asked.

“I think they were called... humans.” the moon replied

The moon’s light turned away from the monkey. He eventually fell asleep in the city streets. Night changed to day and the monkey returned home to tell his clan about the humans of the night before.

I think that's it for my writing and mapping samples. I tried to include a little bit of everything I do. In addition to this though, I also have a some novice-level skills in scripting. I'm traditionally used to HaXe/Flash/Java, but I'm making an effort at learning Ruby w/ RGSS3

Here's a simple level script I wrote to change max level and parameter caps.

class Game_Actor  def max_level        return 1000 # this is the max level  end  def param_max(param_id)        return 999999 # this is the cap for stats  end  def param_base(param_id)        return self.class.params[param_id, @level] if @level <= 99        growth = self.class.params[param_id, 99] - self.class.params[param_id, 98]        return self.class.params[param_id, 99] + growth * (@level - 99)  endendPhew that's it. I can also do some simple stuff with pixel art and photoshop if you need me for that... but I don't think I can fit more samples into this post.
  6. Apologies, everyone! Legacy has had a bit of a waylay, unfortunately. I am currently undergoing a transfer of housing from Iowa to Virginia, and as such I am without internet. The Legacy Project will be put on hold until I am settled and have time to bother with applications and such. Many apologies more, I will send each of you that have applied a private message when I return to work on the project.

Also, I have decided that Skype should be used as a means of communication between the developers, so please add your skype names if you have them. If you are without a skype username, I suggest you get one. You will only need a mic to communicate. We will not be using webcams.

An excerpt from a starbound short story based on a character from a roleplay -

    Spoiler
The smoke and fire that surrounded the wreck that used to be a large communication vessel was enough to make Jacob nearly cough his lungs out upon emerging from it. But he was alive. Somehow. Mustering all his strength to go up the maintenance ladder, he realized he forgot something quite important.
    His phone.

Dependence on their electronic communicator of choice was not uncommon among the populace of Deltora, but Jacob’s phone carried a bit more than a large list of the girls he was attempting to bang and contact lists full of businessmen. For him, it was the key to the universe, and he needed it badly. So badly he was willing to dig through the wreckage and fire to find it. Now making his way down the maintenance ladder, he tried to backtrack in his mind of where his phone possibly could have flown after the crash. He searched the storage room full of wrecked servers behind him, looking for it.

The black brick was spotted in a corner, not even dented. With the expensiveness of impervium, one would last think it to be used to protect a phone of all things, but once again, that phone was mind numbingly important. Jacob rushed to it, picking it up. He began heading back up the maintenance ladder.

Emerging from the server maintenance room, he calmly attempted to avoid the smoke coming from behind him. He then realised that that smoke was coming from the cockpit. Muttering curse words under his breath, he located the exit door. The exit doorway, more specifically, as the door was violently ripped off after the crash via the magical power of gravity and rocks. He traversed through the doorway, and finally was able to examine the wreck that was his ship in it’s full glory.

“....” Jacob says, obviously saddened. Turning away, seeing as repairs are out of the question, he turned on his phone. “Aphion. A few questions.” he says. The phone whirs to life, and a modulated, pixelated face of a womanly figure appeared on the screen. It began talking as jacob made his way through the grassy plains he had landed in.

“Yes, DV0?” DV0 was the name Aphion used to refer to Jacob, as Jacob Grimm was only one of his many, many names. DV0, however, was from his old hacker days, and was synonymous with his true personality and self. The sad thing was, Jacob couldn’t quite pin down what his personality and self was anymore. He continued the conversation with the phone. “Who fired that missile toward my ship and crashed it, where the Frick am I, and how long can it be before you figure out if this place is populated or not.”

The AI responded promptly. “AXISCorp, Planet Deltora, and three seconds. I’ve already done it. Planet Deltora is populated and is on the verge of civil war.”

Jacob had heard of Planet Deltora many times before. One of his old mentors, Leon Benard, used to live there. He also knew that Benard left after the planet’s first civil war, and the fact that they’re about to explode again wasn’t that promising. And considering it’s his first impression, that’s not too good. “Why did AXISCorp try to kill me, now?”

The AI responded again with impressive speed. “Likely because of that digital bounty you did one year, two weeks, thirty days and two hours ago, in which you were paid by a rival organization to hack into one of their most valuable ships and shut off the power to make them crash.”

“...Well , I’d be pretty pissed too.” Jacob says, remembering the day he did exactly that. “Alright, Aphion, where’s the safest place I can go at the moment?”

The AI took a moment to respond. The face disappeared and was replaced by pictures of GPS Satellites, and more accurately, the process of hacking them. Once it was finished, the screen glowed with an eager green. “Transmere City would the the most apt area to go to, considering it’s crime rate and human relations. Controlled by Hylotls. Any other actions you need me to take, sir?”

Jacob thought for a moment. “Fabricate an existence of a man named Alex Edwards. Give him a life, backstory, get him housing records and schooling certificates.” As he says this, the AI minimizes and goes in the background, hacking databases and doing exactly that.

Using the GPS, it took quite a few hours walking across the plains for Jacob to get even close to the city. Upon near-arrival, about two miles away, he could see a very large threatening wall in the distance. “I’m guessing I shouldn’t be expecting a welcoming parade, Aphion?”

“I’ve fabricated the records in a way that suggests you were captured by the rival Floran City, Franc, in the first war.” Aphion says. “They should believe you if that’s your story.” Jacob nods, as the phone locks again. Upon getting about a mile away from the wall, a large light is shined in his face. Following this, alarms are being sounded, and trucks converging on his location.

“Certainly not a welcoming parade, then.” Jacob says, holding his hands up, putting on a terrified face.
