Recovering saved data

  1. So today my hard drive failed on my pc, I use 2 drives a 250gb SSD with windows and a bunch of games and program's and a big 3tb drive for everything that doesn't fit on the other.

I have rpg maker installed on the big one and it was the small one that failed. I have no idea where my games are saved and I'm also pretty sure it has been saving into the cloud too, but I know for a fact almost all my unfinished scripts and art assets where on the desktop so are gone for good.

I need to wait 2 days until I get a replacement drive but I'm panicking like mad about what I've lost on my SSD.

Does anyone know the how the cloud save system works and what exactly it saves? And also does it backup your saves into the install directory or just the my documents folder.
  2. I'm assuming that you're talking about the steam cloud? Then anything that is assigned to be saved to the cloud should be still available.

Projects that are not assigned to be saved to cloud are saved into the "my documents" folder by default - if you had redirected that folder to the external (which you should have done if you're using a small SSD for windows, not only for space but also for access reasons), then it's there.

You should never keep your user library/my document folder on an SSD because that will speed up the wear on the SSD, causing it to fail earlier than needed. Same goes for windows virtual ram, even if that slows down a bit...
  3. I bought it through steam so I assume it uses the steam cloud for saving, I assumed all versions of ace had a cloud save feature.

When I click the manage projects tab it has a little cloud icon next to most of my projects, the problem is I don't know what it actually saves.

I'm really hoping that it saves the entire project folder otherwise I'm going to lose a lot of work.
  4. Got a replacement drive now and recovered my data from the cloud and it saves the entire game folder.  Unfortunately even though i have managed to recover all my scripts and a bunch of images, all my other assets that weren't in the folder are gone.
  5. What do you mean "all the other assets that weren't in the folder"? If they weren't in the folder, you couldn't have used them in your game - unless they were RTP, and in that case you just need to reinstall the RTP to get them back again.

If you've purchased other resources from the store or from Steam, you can just redownload them.
  6. I mean all the stuff I was working on that I hadn't added into the project yet. All my half finished art and scripts.

There was only one project that I was bothered about and I've got back the important stuff.
