This has happened twice while play testing. If the lead character gets killed in a battle, everything will be normal if the battle is won. The MC's health will be at zero in the menu, and I will still be able to control the character's movements. However, the Game Over screen will suddenly appear the next time I step on an event. As a matter of fact, it happens in the MIDDLE of the event (if it's an event where dialogue is being exchanged). As far as I know, this does not occur with the other two characters.
Not sure where this issue is coming from.

But do you want the game over to appear when the MC dies?
-
a change in HP triggers a game over if the lead character HP is 0.
also, moving on the map indirectly triggers HP regeneration, which is an HP change.
find the method for HP change and disable the line that goes to game over. -
But do you want the game over to appear when the MC dies?
My description of the ordeal was sloppy. Let me explain everything differently:
-In a battle, the MC dies.
-With the other two characters, I win the battle without resurrecting the MC.
-I open the menu after the battle. The MC's HP is at zero (as expected).
-The game continues normally until I step on an event which triggers a conversation between the characters.
-During the conversation, the screen suddenly fades and I am presented with the Game Over screen.
-This only happens if the MC is dead. If the other two characters are dead, nothing happens.
To answer your question, no, I do not want the Game Over screen to appear when the MC dies. I only want the Game Over screen to appear after all the characters have died in a battle. -
Oh snap, I just diagnosed what was wrong. The reason why I got the Game Over screen on both instances is because those conversations remove the other two characters from the party (so that it activates another event to make it look like those characters are facing and talking to the MC). Since only the MC is in the party now and has zero HP, this triggers the Game Over.
