Is this a good idea? I mean, I have been looking around asking stuff etc to see what I can gather and start to structure my project but it's taking time and I have nothing done so I was wondering if I can start mapping with VX and then send everything to XP for scripts and game. Will this corrupt anything?
Also, would like to know how to do that, sending mapping from VX to XP.
Thanks in advance.
Question about mapping with VX and send the whole mapping to XP for script/game

Both has very distinct data structure, so it isn't possible. Unless you want to make a parallax and send the parallax as map to XP.
-
why don't you just start in XP? It's very difficult to port things between engines, and any tools that might have been written would port from XP to VX, not the other way around.
-
Well, I read somewhere that mapping with VX and porting it to XP was a good idea since XP has more and working scripts/etc and VX has a better mapping system. Should I just use XP for any project I do?

Erm, no... VX does not have a better mapping system not does Ace or MV! XP actually does support the Ace engine and there are guides on how to do this on these forums, why not just use the Ace engine with XP? -

Unfortunately I do not own VX Ace. I am thinking of buying it tomorrow but it will depend on many personal things.
And yes, I have been lurking around the web for a week or two looking for stuff that can be or not done with both XP and VX (currently the only engines I own) and that was one of the things I read. Perhaps the person wanted to say VX Ace? Though I do recall him saying VX but I can be wrong. Finding that in my history browser will be hard lol but no matter. I have in fact been avoiding VX Ace/MV stuff when googling. (I use -ace -mv tags)
I am taking note of what you said about XP and VX Ace and will try to get it tomorrow.
This leaves me with a question though. What's the reason of VX? -
VX was the version of RPG Maker that was released in 2007 just a few years after RPG Maker XP.
Ace wasn't released until late 2011 or was it 2012? I forget :p
There was about 5 years between VX and ace and 3 years and 10 months between ace and MV.
There is always a new release between 3-5 years for RPG Maker.
There is no reason to use VX these days since ace is so much better, but XPs framerate was capped to 40fps if I remember right..
MV is the better RPG Maker tho. -
XP uses manual layering, VX, VXA and MV use automatic layering.
manual layering allows more freedom in mapping at the price of more work and more complexity.
the automatic layering system of VX, VXA and MV has been improved with every version, making VX the worst mapping system ever and VXA and MV much better, with MV being the best of the three.
asking which one is better (XP or MV) depends a lot of personal preferences and how much time you want to spend on mapping - fer me for example MV is better than XP mapping exactly because I don't have to bother setting correct layers (and MV added another top layer, basically removing the worst limitation of VX and VXA) -
Thanks a lot for the info guys!
This leaves me to one last question.
Map first or scripts? I mean, will I get my map corrupted in any way if I script after? Or should I ask, how do you usually do it? -
Nothing gets corrupted, but most scripts require starting a new game after they're installed.
