  1. Project Untitled: Because I'm Too Lazy to Think of a Name

**Demo Version 1.1 Download Link at Bottom**

Hello! I'm sure everyone here has no idea who I am because:

    1. This is my first post.

    2. See number 1.

That being said, the origin of this game occurred at the beginning of this month. I normally attempt (and fail) National Novel Writing Month each year, but this year, while studying abroad in Japan, I suddenly got the idea to make an RPG instead and see if creating a story that way would help me see something to completion. And so, on November 1st, 2014, Project Untitled was born out of a set of ideas that may or may not have been synthesized from cryptomnesia.

Testing and stuff done by me. It's pretty much a fun solo project and a test to see how far I can get by the end of the month. Feedback would be much appreciated, though, especially regarding...anything, really!

A demo is available. Game time is around 30 minutes, give or take 10 depending on the pace at which one plays, although most of it is dialogue. The only areas available are the first town and the first mini dungeon area. The game ends after the cutscene following the first boss.

    Game Synopsis

    Spoiler
Kasumi Niwa is only an ordinary high school student when, without warning, a nuclear attack on her hometown leaves her orphaned and starving in the middle of an area that would become the starting battlegrounds of World War III. With the companionship of a fellow orphan, Yuki Furukawa, she is able to survive off the meager food scraps distributed by the government and stave off hunger and death for over three years. Over time, however, the warzones grow in intensity and scope, and the two of them are eventually caught in a crossfire that leaves Yuki badly burned and comatose. With no other option, she carries him to a makeshift hospital in the countryside, where the doctor can only cover his wounds and hope for the best. The people of this hospital are no different from them, most half-dead and barely surviving in the warzone.
A sudden attack forces Kasumi to flee, carrying Yuki with her. With her only options of escape cut out by approaching soldiers, Kasumi is left with no choice but to leave Yuki's unconscious self behind and scale a cliff to the north. Barely avoiding capture and enslavement at the hands of the enemy, she jumps off the other side of the cliff, choosing suicide over a life worse than death. Instead of hitting the ground, however, she wakes up in a warm lodge, where it is revealed to her that many people from around the world have been transported to a game world for no apparent reason. With the assistance of the lodge's de facto leader, Ryo Maeda, she is able to muster the effort to go out and find out the reasoning behind the sudden shift in worlds. As she leaves the lodge, she realizes that this world, despite being forced on them, is far more peaceful than the lonely, bloody Earth she knew.

And as they fight their way through the plains and to the southern forest for answers, she begins to have doubts about the value of reality and the point of fighting to reclaim it.
    Gameplay Features (Updated 11/17)

    Spoiler
    - Yanfly's Battle System: Streamlined turn-based RPG battles.- At least 7 playable characters throughout the game, each one with their own unique personalities, story involvement, character development.

    - Up to 6 characters at once in battle.

    - Active Enemy Encounters: No more random battles; enemies are visible on the map, and encounters will only begin when they are touched.
    - Story Emphasis: Heavy emphasis on dialogue and character development.

    - Varied skill system: Utilizes Yanfly's Active Chain Skills and Input Combo Skills for certain characters in later parts of the game.

    - Comprehensive combat system: Skill costs and functions are made to scale with character levels and remain useful throughout the game (this will be attempted, at least).

    - At least five sequenced worlds, each with their own theme and set of sidequests.

    - And some more stuff...maybe...depending on the mood of the developer over time.
    Characters

    Spoiler
Kasumi Niwa: A war orphan. At the age of 16, she was left to fend for herself in a war-torn Japan, surviving off of government food scraps for three years. She is eventually transported to a game world before her death. She is straightforward, unapproachable, and borderline antisocial, but is an altruist at heart.

Yuki Furukawa: A war orphan and companion of Kasumi. He fell into a coma after sustaining heavy burns, and was left at the foot of a cliff after an attack. His fate is currently unknown. Little is known about his personality other than the fact that he is sentimental and altruistic.

Ryo Maeda: The de facto leader of those residing in the game world's starting lodge. Not much is known about his past, but his personality is clear: Good-natured, but naive and emotionally immature. He wants nothing more than to return to reality, as he feels that it is wrong to live in what he calls a dream.

All characters below this point are subject to the possibility of change and/or death, as they are not yet implemented.

Seliora Roche: (Not yet implemented) A young woman wandering the world on her own. Despite her pale skin and plump, rosy cheeks, she is extremely mischievous and a highly skilled user of the game world's combat system. She has no real goals, simply wanting to observe what the state of the world has been reduced to in light of events.

Adil Fennec: (Not yet implemented) A man serving as one of the top knights of an NPC kingdom. He is cold and detached, and has little concern for morality. His primary objective is to reshape the world in what he feels is a proper image, as he has no hope that it will return to its original state.

Nahuel Fox: (Not yet implemented) A playful teenager that often mingles with others. He has no real goals and simply desires to take advantage of what the game world has to offer. He greatly enjoys the freedom of the world, though he finds his new hair color questionable.

Daria Johnson: (Not yet implemented) An elderly woman posing as an NPC. Despite her age and outward appearance, she is a master of the game world's combat system and possesses extensive knowledge of the worlds she has visited. She has a loud, brash personality, even during battle, and tends to slip into bouts of nostalgia.

  2. Demo Version 1.1 Update Notes:

    - Added a whole messload of Yanfly's scripts (noted in credits in post and end of demo) to improve overall game flow.

    - Revamped Ryo's skills; now uses Yanfly's Active Chain Skills. TP build-up increased to accommodate.

    - Revamped animations to run at 30 FPS; animations redone to accommodate.

    - Adjusted difficulty (may be easier or harder due to changes in skills) and changed some skill functions to reduce overpoweredness in later parts of the game if I ever get to them.

    - Adjusted some item costs.

    - Adjusted some skill names and functions, as well as scaling mana costs (most likely won't be relevant in the demo portion of the game).

    - Resolution updated to 640x480; map sizes, message boxes, dialogue, title screen, battlebacks, etc. have been resized to accommodate.

    - Added word wrapping for better-fitting dialogue.

    - Lots of typo fixes.

    - Removed demo bug where a tile in the third forest map teleported you elsewhere for no reason.

    - Fixed bug in third forest map when characters could walk through walls.

    - Adjusted treasure chest loot.

    - Polished maps in opening cutscene and cut out some unnecessary dialogue.

    - Changed some trees in Outer Area 1 and 2.

    - Replaced all copyrighted music (with the exception of the track from Gankutsuou) with free non-commercial use music.

    - Updated credits to include all new resources used.

    - Minor changes to maps and other small bugfixes and changes.
  3. Cool. I like the genericness of it all. Are you working on it a little each day? Like, 30 minutes? Do you have a goal for how long you need it to be, kind of like how NaNoWriMo has a goal of how many words you have to write?
  4. Thanks! Yeah, I try to dedicate an hour to new stuff each day, while the rest of the time is a little sporadic and spent trying to find bugs. I'll probably work on it more once my last finals are done since I'll be broke until I get back to the US. My goal is to at least see if I can finish the current region, which is fairly small, before I return on the 27th, and if not, before the 30th.
