Hey all,
Thanks for taking a moment of your time to read my post and (hopefully) answer my questions. I read through some of this forum and the tutorials but to be quite honest, all that information looks like a major wall of text to a new comer like me. It also seems like some "scripts" link to outside sources (ie: Sidebattlers) and all the information is making my head spin.
I have one very straight forward question, that I am hopeful someone in the community will be able to explain to me. I stumbled upon a youtu
be video of a sidebattle system with animated characters and some amazing graphics.
I will link the video here, as a picture (or video in this case :guffaw: ) is worth a thousand words.
The graphical flavor and animation and battle system is exactly what I would be interested in placing into any game idea I have in my head right now, and my question is what is required to obtain the above experience? Are there places to obtain the monster/character resources that are that detailed? I am looking at the steam page and have noticed some "High Fantasy" Resource packs that I think would contain what I am looking for (am I going in the right direction)? How do you add the side battle system with animations? Is that something that is going to require coding on my behalf?
Hope to hear back from some friendly, helpful members of this community in order to assist me! Thanks in advance for taking some time out of your day to answer my question!
Thanks,
Mord

I think that is the High Fantasy Pack, actually. You can definitely use that, plus some battle script to get the side-view. As for the battle animations, I'm sure there's a way to add those, but I've never made any myself (I just used the animations built into RPG Maker).
But I don't think the animations require coding, per se. -
Thanks for your quick reply! When you say I can use "some battle script to get the side-view," what exactly does that mean? How would I add such a script to the RPG Maker and where would I even look for a script like that? Is there a known side-battle script somewhere around?

Yes, that video is one of the demo videos from PVGames' packs. You can see all packs and more videos here:
http://www.pioneervalleygames.com/
PVGames uses the Battle Engine Symphony Script with the Holder-Battler-Add-On to make those videos, those scripts are available for free on the master script list (the HF-Packs need to be purchased from the store - if you want everything from PVG, you might consider purchasing Member+ first to get the Member+ Bonus price reduction in the forum store, that would be cheaper in total.
You can test out Ace for free with a thirty-day-trial, go to downloads of the trials top right on this forum.
You might also want to follow the link in my signature before purchasing Ace, it will guide you to some more samples that can be opened by the trial to see what is possible. It also contains the link to the master script list, where you can find about a thousand scripts already done for Ace. -
There are plenty of scripts, but being practical, my suggestion would be to put something like that to one side for a short time while you learn the basics of the program and what you can do without scripts (which actually is a lot, once you know what you're doing). It's very tempting to jump straight in at the deep end, but without a grasp of the fundamentals it can descend into chaos. It's a bit like expecting to be able to build a Formula One racing car when you've never even seen the inside of a motor engine.
As for scripts, there is a thread called Master Script List where you can find almost anything you want. Also, if you do end up getting the High Fantasy resources, there are some specialist scripts available (I think for free) on the web site of the people who made it which you could use.
Scripts are added via the menu bar in the editor. As your post reads like you haven't got it yet, it is very difficult to explain.
