I decided to make a piano version of one of my older works. Instead of going chiptune or orchestral, I just stuck with one sole piano. What do you think?

Hey Lumpy I got them both from impact soundworks. Check out their stuff! Really affordable and great sound as well.

What the hey, a few more from The Dry Path...
I'm sorry I haven't given any feedback, but my computer's all screwed up. Once it's working again I'll check out some other people's stuff. -
Classic Schematist! Sounds great, your use of subtle variations to break up the monotony of loops always makes me smile :)

Amazing, it definitely has that "end of the journey theme reprise" feel. The only advice I could maybe give is it feels like the piano sample is really biting in the mids, maybe a bit of EQ and a soft reverb could help?
Here are two tracks I did recently for commissions: a battle theme and a spooky atonal suspense thing. I'd welcome feedback, especially regarding mixing ^^

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
To be honest, that sounding was intentional. When I created it, I was listening the Studio Ghibli Piano Collection daily, and I really wanted to recreate that feeling those tracks had. However, I not only did choose to represent the mood, but the overall tools and sounding of that piano is somewhat similar to mine. Because of this, it may not be the best as a background music, but I'm sure it's great for listening on its own. :)
I have other tracks where I actually have more reverb'd instruments, but for this one, I really wanted to keep it as mild as possible.
By the way, your music is really awesome too! While I liked Strive Onward, I had two concerns about the execution (the concept was flawless overall). First, the bass is, in my opinion, way too deep and loud, especially compared to the guitar, which is too quiet compared to the other parts of the music. The second is that while the song had an incredibly great start, it became stall in the middle and didn't have a proper finish for my taste. I'm not sure if it was meant to be looped, but even if that was the case, it felt like it was cut randomly.
On the other hand, Suspense is perfect. I can't say anything wrong about it. Not only the mixing is way more proper, but the overall music reached its goal more clearly than the previous one. If I wanted to criticize anything (which, I don't want to, but hey, we're here for feedback, aren't we?), I'd say that in the ending there are a few hits which sounds way too... electronic, instead of metallic. But that was probably only 1-2 hits.
All in all, definitely a good job and I'm pretty sure your customer was more than satisfied with the result. Keep up the good work! -
Some epic stuff with bad instrument packs.
Some over-the-top happy music.
-
Here's the piano improvisation I have been talking about in my status update. Yup, it's indeed a 20 minutes long track.
-
Well, this thread is... insanely intimidating :kaoswt: I don't really know what to say about most of these tracks that wouldn't just be embarassing gushing.
@RubbyDukky - That Epic track is, well, epic is certainly the word! I can't quite place what, but something about the Happy track really reminds me of some of Shoji Meguro's Persona 4 work. In an awesome way, of course.

Ok, so. I'm very new to making music. Got a midi keyboard for my birthday in May and thought, hey, why not give this a shot. Anywho, enough disclaimers. Here's some stuff I've done.
The Girl In The Well - Asian inspired horror track. The second piece of music I've ever composed.
Get Done Some Crimes - A funky, silly, sneaking theme. Wanted to try something non-spoopy. Third track I've ever composed.
Haven - My take on a Resident Evil style "safe room" track. The fourth piece [keen observers may be sensing a pattern here].
Die Trying - An attempt at a Horror Game battle theme. This one was pretty complex for me, so I'm still not sure the mix is right, but I'm happy with the feel and composition of it. Track number five.
I'm still trying to get the hang of Reaper and trying to learn music theory, so if there's any ear-bleeding mistakes, apologies in advance! :kaoswt2: -
OK, finally did something after a couple months. It's a WIP, but I'm happy how it's taking form and everything.
-
Schematist, I like the the guitar/bass samples. Can I ask you where you got them? Your theme sounds great. I like how you layered the sounds.
I've been studying beat-em-up style music
Super cool, I can definitely hear those Battletoads style riffs coming through!

This song is awesome! I can feel it lol.
Also here are the last two songs I did, just kind of experimenting with bass-lines a lot to make a good ol' rpg song. They are a little on the weird side I guess?
-
Here is a battle song I composed using propellerheads reason :)
-
@Simalono Thanks! Glad you liked it! Those basslines are great.
I'm still working on the song, and after adding new parts, rerecording all of it, and adding some EQ etc it sounds better. Hope you enjoy
-
It has been a forever and a day since I came by last time :D Here is something I made today. Inspired by a digital painting I spotted today. The track is called Passion. It is a simple tune that was written, mixed and mastered within one hour.

One thing I'd like to ad from a producers standpoint, is that somehow you managed to get your guitar track ahead of the click track.
I dig the guitar tone though :) -

I'll need to rerecord everything eventually. I am a pretty bad player haha -
Interesting thread. I guess I'll be rooting out some oldbies from years past.
-
Alrighty I know I posted earlier but the music I originally posted I had taken down cause I feel I had improved far beyond what my post was within a short period of time. I didn't want to delete my post though since I had originally left feedback for a few songs.
So if you guys are into chiptunes or just general catchy video game music check out my new ep Sporky's Brain.

Under WIP. Whaddaya think?
Spoiler
I need feedback to improve. -
@KayZaman you've done a good job so far I'd say, however the switch from spiccato to legato strings at the beginning (around 0:15) was a bit choppy. I'd also suggest adding a bit more "filling" to the song to give it some variety. Right now it's just the intro and a part that loops once. Adding one or two more instruments to give it a little more substance should do the trick IMO.
-----------------------------------------
Believe it or not, but this is actually the first song I've composed in four years that's in a 6/8 measure. Crazy, innit? I have no idea why I avoided using that kind of measure for so long since it was really fun composing this. It's a bit shorter since it's just a little experimental thingy done in a couple of hours but I'm still quite fond of it. What do you guys think?

Go home Soundcloud you're drunk.
I need to bookmark this thread so I don't have to spam it with my massive walls of text everytime I come back haha (yes I am three months late so?)
Welp, better get to it:
--------------------
Here's a single I released a few weeks ago. It's a drone/post-metal longtrack about gender dysphoria. Starts off more stripped-back with atmospheric synths but builds as more glitches and fuzzy bass kick in. Dig.
The vocals sound a bit distant, which may be an artistic choice but results in the lyrics being a bit hard to discern.
Overall I really enjoyed it, good work!
Alternatively, if you don't feel like sitting through a 12-minute track, here's a post-punk/noise rock single I released last year, haha:
I'd like to hear some variety on the drums in the intro.
Again, the vocals seem a bit distant imo :/
As for the rest, listen to what @padr81 said, he seems to know more than I do regarding this genre ^^
Well lookie what we have here!
A show off topic!
You know it.
Here are two of my favourite creations, and if anyone feels up to the task of creating a track together, feel free to ask.
A couple things:
"Longing for an Adventure"
The cymbal swell results in no hit, that sounds a bit weird to me (that might be my personal taste actually)
If you're going for a natural/realistic feel, I'd say the delay is a bit weird (especially in the intro & the break, when the strings stop). If not, that's fine.
I would also like to hear some variation in the second part (if there was I didn't notice it)
"Fighting Forward"
That kick's attack is too slow, meaning it's not "snappy" enough, if that makes sense.
Otherwise that's very good stuff dude, great job! :D
Hey ya guys! well i am composer and producer , wanna post here some of my arrangaments remakes and original composes, maybe someone need music for his project videogame, i hope you enjoy some of this music, if you wanna contact with me just post here ill check sometimes this forum, or you can also send me PM here...Thank you :)
I listened to your songs, your stuff is absolutely flawless.
If this isn't commercial quality idk what is :o
This one was my entry for a battle theme contest on another forum.
I think there are lots of really cool ideas in this track, that would work a lot more if they had room to express themselves. Right now they all try to sit on each other and the result sounds a bit messy, try to pause an instrument for an entire section while another is introduced, then pause another instrument and introduce yet *another* at the same time.
But I agree, this would work well for a mini-boss theme.
This should be a boss battle but it's.....techno-rock.
This would definitely work for a boss battle.
Maybe try layering that pluck synth you hear at the beginning with more instruments/synth towards the end to make the whole track sound "bigger" (since you're going for a boss fight.)
Under WIP. Whaddaya think?
Your violins around the begining all have the same attack, I would suggest looking at another library if you can't control the attack over time.
Here are two tracks I did recently for commissions: a battle theme and a spooky atonal suspense thing. I'd welcome feedback, especially regarding mixing ^^
"Strive Onward"
I think your mix is too wide. A good idea is to have your very low-end completely mono (this applies more to EDM I think), your low-mid range more mono than stereo and your medium/high range wider as desired.
"Suspense"
I think the only problem here is the percussions feel like they're too loud (not in that they block other instruments but that the levels are wierd, almost like you slammed a limiter on it and turn the gain to 200%)
It's not particularly accessible, but...
There's some great tunes here, love your atmospheres! Fractal Patterns and Pretty Colours is my favorite.
Here is my own song. It is meant to sound gritty and epic. Hope you guys like it.
I think your choir could use some volume automation to make it sound less "MIDI".
Also your piano is too low compared to the choir.
The percussion is on point though, love it!
I feel your bass should be an octave lower, but that might be my EDM background talking for me so I'm not sure.
Try to layer your brass a bit if you want to make it sound more full (I myself find myself not doing this enough)
Those two comments are really nitpicky, your song sounds great as it is ^^
I've been studying beat-em-up style music
The fact that your bass plays 8th notes throughout the whole track makes it pretty repetitive. I would favor accompagnying the melody on the bass and replacing the 8th notes with an ambient drone for example.
I just stuck with one sole piano.
Sometimes less is more ;) I think it's beautiful.
Here's the piano improvisation I have been talking about in my status update. Yup, it's indeed a 20 minutes long track.
Do you do sheet music for your work? I know it's improv but I think you'd be very popular, especially over at r/composer on reddit :)
Some epic stuff with bad instrument packs.
For VGM it's generally a bad idea to put balls-to-the-wall EDM drums like you did (the more subtle drums in the second part work better)
Some over-the-top happy music.
I would add a bit of reverb on that rimshot.
It's not difficult to make low quality sample libraries sound decent, the trick is to apply (reasonable amounts of) reverb, and more importantly: layer your instruments!
Ok, so. I'm very new to making music. Got a midi keyboard for my birthday in May and thought, hey, why not give this a shot. Anywho, enough disclaimers. Here's some stuff I've done.
For your first songs that's actually really good.
I remember *my* first songs, they were nowhere near like that *shudder*
Do you have a musical background? Like played an instrument before for example?
In Die Trying I think there's too much going on at the same time, and it's very atonal at times, so be careful with that. As I told Benjamin Kuli before in a completely different context, "Sometimes less is more ;)"
Also 1:13 you fumbled a bit on the piano :p
Good luck, looking forward to see your progress (on this thread hopefully ^^)
Here is a battle song I composed using propellerheads reason :)
I think the only thing I can say is that your intro is too long and repetitive.
If you listen from the begining and pause at 0:25, you will have listened to the same one thing, so either add some variation/elements or shorten the intro.
I'm still working on the song, and after adding new parts, rerecording all of it, and adding some EQ etc it sounds better. Hope you enjoy
Be careful with that guitar in the intro, I think it's clipping at around 0:15 on that 4th chord.
At around 0:34 to 0:42 your bass is playing weird notes, like they're playing the fundamental to another chord. Same when it picks up again at around 1:08
The track is called Passion. It is a simple tune that was written, mixed and mastered within one hour.
The chord progression and part of the melody reminds me of "Les Demoiselles de Rochefort" for some reason ^^
I really liked this song, great job! Only one hour!
So if you guys are into chiptunes or just general catchy video game music check out my new ep Sporky's Brain.
Your EP is very interesting, and I notice each track revolves around the same motif.
The thing is, your songs are pretty repetitive, which is why I think it would work better if you made them way shorter, and somehow seam them together into one longer track (not a 20 minutes long track, but present each idea only once for example).
----------------
Since I was last here I released an EP called "reverie". I'm not sure it's anything you'd use in a RPG Maker game since none is loopable but it's orchestral :)
Looking back (or listening back I should say) I think I put a bit too much reverb. I don't know. Enjoy.
