Indrah, LockeZ, Crazy_Leen, and I finished up a game yesterday called Born Under the Rain. I did a full soundtrack on it (and the writing and a bunch of other stuff); here's the battle theme:
@Cyreides: Sounds really polished. I'd like to see you take more risks musically, but that's a personal preference. The song's feel comes through really well, and I particularly like the female choir(ish) effect.
@Dibur: That boss theme is pretty slick; I like when your instrumentation jumps around a lot, especially those little synth runs. I'm not sure of the synths at around 1:26ish; I think there's a better way to add dissonance there.

@Housekeeping Sick bassline on Snake Charmer. For some reason though the song sounds a little "naked" in some points. Your Cloud Sundae on the other hand is amazing from start to end. On Grow at the Speed of Light I love the arpegiated theme and the sound of the instrument. Also beautifull melody on 1:09 :)

Thanks! When I first started composing, I was really melody-focused, and I would usually just have pretty simple bass lines. Now I often tend to structure everything around a bass line, haha. But, yeah, I know what you mean about the song feeling a bit naked at parts; I sort of gutted backing chords from the verse section so I could focus more on groove and provide a starker contrast with the string-forward chorus. I really value contrast in music--not that that was the best idea here, but it was what I was going for. And, thanks for the compliments on those other two tracks!

Feedback time! I'm leaving it for those who have left it for others, because that's the point, right? ;)
@Housekeeping: Nice atypical battle theme! That bassline is awesome, and the flute plays nicely over it. I need to check out more of your work. :)
@Cyreides: Sweet dreams has an effective oppressiveness to it, personally I would add some reverb to that crispy snare, but that's just me. ;) Great work!
@Ms Littlefish: Strange House, Weird People, Good Party; I loved this before I even click play, that title is awesome. And having listened twice, I still love it! Melodically it reminds me a little of Day of The Tentacle, that off-kilter playfulness is something that really appeals to me. Great stuff! :D
@Scythuz: Threat Level Elevated is very aptly named, I like how it gets straight to the point and how each new section elevates the... um... threat level. ;) I love how you've got an almost drum n' bass thing going on in the middle section while still keeping it RPG.
Can I be cheeky and post three tracks at once? Patterns you may have heard before though it has just been updated, the other two are brand new. These are non-commission tracks that I've created to showcase (hopefully) the style of music I make best as I'm going to start promoting myself outside the cosy world of RM. These tracks will be my first impression for potential clients, so with that in mind any constructive feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks, all!

@mostly cool in my books: Thanks! I definitely go for atypical where I can. Your tracks are solid workhorse tracks. It's hard to say if they should be improved; since they're atmospheric rather than melody-forward, they're designed to blend into the background and provide a mood, and they're doing that well. Everything's mixed well and clean. I don't know if any of the tracks are going to turn heads, but they're also the kind of music that a lot of people want in RPGs, so I think you'll be able to get your fair share of commissions. Good stuff!

Man I have no idea what this song is about but boy did I have fun doing it

So I've been composing and mixing my EP in the musical style of Synthwave, Dreamwave, 80s soundtrack music and I just posted my first track called Night Time in the Future! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the song!

I...haven't been here in a while...
A little ashamed to admit that I've been busy with other things for a while. But I did have the time to make something new that I could share. It's a short prelude, but I feel it does its job well. Check it out~!
I've been out of touch here for some time. I'll scroll back to take a look at the wonderful things this community has recently made and offer constructive criticism when and where I can soon. -
@Clydous Beautifull song mate, I like the sound of the piano very much! Also, welcome back :)

Finally, finally, finally got my EP/mixtape The Coldest Winter released. It was suppose to come out like 3 weeks ago and I had to delay it right before it's date cause life went crazy on me.
And I'm in a whirl at the moment, so I'll have to come back around and listen through the last page here in a bit to give some feedback of my own, but thanks for the feedback from everyone else on Sweet Dreams, cause I have had a chance to read some of it since it released! -
@Mister Big T It sounds more like a supervillain theme! It is something I could use during the big reveal where one of the party members turns out to be the person pulling the strings, the evil mastermind, or something like that. Pretty good job mate.
@Cyreides Gj on releasing your EP! Sounds pretty melancholic all around, something that fits the album title perfectly. I can imagine it as a soundtrack for a futuristic/slice of life/drama rpg or anime. And I like the vocals on this musical style. Very nice! -
Just set up a game page for the game I'm working on--Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass. I thought I'd upload a new track from it to celebrate:
I've never done a work-in-progress thread for a game before, but I'll make sure to set one up here soon.
@Cyreides: Definitely apt name for the song/album. Clean stuff, as always.
@Mister Big T: I'm having a fun time imagining the character. The song gives out heroic/hopeful vibes, but the first few bars make Dobergirl sound like an unstoppable badass. This is probably the best track I've heard from you.
@Clydous: I like the dynamics in this piece; I don't play with dynamics in an organic way that much, so it's always cool to see composers who do. That said, I think that the run around 25 seconds feels a bit mechanical considering the organic feel throughout the rest of the song. Actually, I don't know. It stood out to me the first time I listened to it, but the more I listen to it the more alright it sounds; I don't know if this means that it was always fine and I'm crazy or if my ear's getting accustomed to it like the nose can get accustomed to smells.
@Dimitris: Alright, so I kind of love synthpop from the 80s. It might be my favorite genre (either that or certain kinds of metal). Your piece definitely emulates that era well. I like your little pentatonic runs and instrumentation choices. I would have liked to see more variation in rhythm, but that's more of a personal thing; most synthpop has pretty simple, steady beats, so I can't fault you for that. I'd listen to it on the highway with the windows rolled down. -
@Housekeeping Dude, that bass!!! Come on, that is something I would expect from a fusion jazz/metal band! How do you compose these lines, I want to know?!?! And then there are the elements that remind me rpg games like Final Fantasy (the melody and the chords from the organ) and the odd timing at 0:30 (I love odd timings). The style reminds me a lot of bands like Spiral Architect and Gordian Knot (check them if you don't know them). You did an amazing job here, well done.
Thanks mate, i love synthpop too. And 80s heavy metal like Manilla Road and Brocas Helm (among others) :) On the rhythm you are correct, it is intentionally simple because of the elements of the musical style. Though if at some point I need to create something more complex I might need to take lessons from you :) Finally, your last sentence put a huge smile on my face! Thanks!@Dimitris: Alright, so I kind of love synthpop from the 80s. It might be my favorite genre (either that or certain kinds of metal). Your piece definitely emulates that era well. @Dimitris: Thanks! I love to work in odd timings, too; fitting a prog song into the game was probably an excuse to get a bit self-indulgent, haha. As for the bass lines: the secret is to play guitar everyday for about twelve years. Really, though, the runs that you're probably talking about are four-finger tapping sections, which is a technique I've been working on recently (my right-hand pinky is still pretty awful). The secret to these runs is that once you start thinking of melodies as alternating between two different positions on the neck (if you're a guitarist), they come together pretty naturally. I generally use fifths as a starting point since that's my go-to position, but any interval can sound great in the right context, and the more you play around with that kind of thing the more outside-the-box your runs start becoming.

Here's a really dancy remix I did of OneRepublics Apologize. Started working on it last year and never really thought I'd finish it till recently.
-
So I made this.
-
@Cyreides Mad remix! I like the ambiance feel at the beginning and the switch to mega techno. legit!
@MisterbigT It sounds good in theory. I would maybe down the guitar a little bit. and some of those strings and the horns in the background might can come forward a hair. it's definitely a good start :D
I'm planning on making a Persona inspired collection and here is the first piece I've made:
What do you all think? Would any of you use something like this in your projects?
Here's another: -
