Here's the thing: I'm working with an abs engine on my main game, and I'd like to make something short and RTP for practice. But...Dude, seems like every idea I come up with is some huge, multi-dungeon epic. The "small" ones are like 10 hours long. And even my short ideas end up fleshing themselves out into long ideas, it seems. I can't be the only person this happens to.
Hence, this thread. I've finally come up with a few things, but I could always use more ideas. I'm sure you could too!
So let's share! I mean basic ideas, not the exact character specifics. That way, we can all use them as inspiration for our own short works.
I'll start:
- A game in which you are a monster hunter and your little sister has wandered into a monster-filled cave while looking for you. Go in, solve the dungeon, kill the boss, grab the kid, yahtzee. A single-dungeon rescue mission.
- A game in which you are a kid trying to find your cat, which has wandered off. Go around town asking about it. Some people may want you to do things to help them before they'll help you. A short plot of many small, almost side-quests.
- A game in which you're a young guy trying to find a date for a festival. Go around town talking to people, find a girl you like, and win her heart. Do this by doing favors for her and talking to her, even giving her presents. Maybe do tasks for other people in order to get help or advice. Use a timer system so you only have a week to get the girl. A somewhat longer project with a nice dating-sim mechanic.
