I think the only change that needs to be made is to either disable commenting or police what the comments are.  Why would these people ever continue growing as artists if you beat them down when they put something out there?
None of the comments were an issue. Were you around to read them? I was.

Besides, I enjoyed seeing what people had to say. Much nicer than voting deaf and dumb. I can guarantee that trying to mute them would not only accomplish nothing, but sap most of the joy out of it as well.

Why is it that you people always arrive on a gag as the most attractive solution to your problems? It's not as if turning down the volume makes them go away.

Just make it so that frankensprites and edits are tagged as such. Transparency, dig? I've said this a million times, and the staff seem curiously evasive about it. You do want to resolve this and start the competition back up, right? Or is it just that I'm the bad guy and you shouldn't be taking advice from "people like mawk"?
  2. I can't quote them anymore.... since they're hidden, but yes.   IMO, they were an issue, some were just cruel.  you're not helping anyone grow with comments like "this is awful"
  3. Those were in the vast minority, unless you exist in another universe or are incredibly sensitive. I was brash when it came to sprites that were made in contempt of the contest (using Find Edges on the base template and writing RPGMAKER-WEB in its head frame by frame, quickly doodling horns and suspenders on the same template), but there's nothing to engage with there in the first place and there were only two of those anyway.

How much more are we going to have to put up with people misrepresenting the issues and defending arbitrary moral standpoints for the sake of coming off as the good guys? Reinstate the competition, tag edits and frankensprites for what they are, problem solved. There's no reason this topic should still be going like this.

You've all had enough time to play the victim, so on with the show!

e: speaking of contempt, I should really sleep. I'm not exactly helping sell this solution by gettin' spiteful. sorry! I love you all. it's just a tough love, is all.
  4. There's no reason two people should dictate how a contest is run just because they whine enough. That may work in your D&D game or Kindergarten, but nobody really wants to put up with someone twisting what's fair and what's right to suit their personal whim. Chill out, shut up and quit trying to run things from the bottom up.
  5. your right, lets tag frankensprites.... lets also tag if someone is under 18, that should put you at a handicap right?  And of course anything that you think might put you at a disability.... we want everything equal.

If my work isn't as good as someone who frankensprited,  I deserve to be eliminated.
  6. Let's get some staff in here for a final word. It's going to be nothing but bitterness and fallacies otherwise.

Contest on hold until the staff decide what to do with it.
Guys, chill. Some of us are still sleeping/about to sleep/about to start the day.

'Chill'? We do not understand this concept back in my native interweb. :3
  9. Everyone has valid points. I try to see this as a discussion rather than an argument. Personally I think gomi boy is presenting a very logical set of points.

I'm aware the contest didn't have a chance to get going, but this feedback, when incorporated thoughtfully, can only help the contest be more fair.

Everyone should keep an open mind.

Considering at least four or five people have voiced similar concerns about the contest leads me to believe there is absolutely some validity in their complaints.
  10. Since this has caused quite the uproar, over something that actually allowed the event to happen in the first place, I will be locking this thread until further discussion has been had.
  11. Ok.

Here is the new plan. All sprites submitted will need a reference list. This list is a list of sprites (just list sprites from the RTP by sheet name then column/row) that were used for any pieces.

Every piece will be put up with the reference list visible. Bases are not required to be on the list. 100% original sprites done just from the base will not have a reference list. You can also check the references to see how much of the sprite was custom and how much was frankened and recolored.

Remember. This contest is also primarily about the fun and creativity of it. Lets not get bogged down on this anymore. This method makes sure that everyone knows what went into making each sprite.

Does anyone have any issues with this plan?
  12. Sounds great ! One idea I had I tossed up earlier (in PM) was perhaps hold 2-separate contests ?

One for Frankensprites and one for 100% original works.

Thattaways everyone will be satisfied and everyone will get a chance at this, no matter their artistic ability.

Excellent idea to include reference image pages.
  13. It took forever to even get 16 entries on board. I think separating them would be too farfetched if we're concerned about entries.
  14. Well that's fine then. I'm just glad it's going forward and not 13ed after all - and OH YES - I will definitely watch this with interest !
  15. Sounds like a good idea! Nice job on turning this all around so quickly.
  16. Yay this got unlocked!  Nice to see a solution was found quickly.

I wouldn't worry about separating them for this contest.  Maybe in future contests if there's more people interested.

Maybe I'll be able to submit something this time if I get a chance.
  17. Anyway, if everyone who submitted can submit the reference list, we can get this going again.

Also, we have one opening if you want to get in real quick @Espon.
  18. Realistically speaking, this is the best solution. Thanks for the consideration.
  19. We have 2 slots open I believe.
  20. So if the sprite was 100% scratched do we just pm Ralph saying so?

also, do you want us to add on to the our submission's pm or just send a new one?
