  1. Welcome to the RPG Maker Web Pixel/Graphics Academy!

    What is it?

    • The graphics academy will provide instruction and encouragement for RPG Maker Web users who want to begin creating their own graphical resources. We will cover a variety of types and styles—with an initial focus on pixel art and sprites that will move to cover subjects as digital painting, building tilesets, and creating animations.

    Goals

    • To teach users the knowledge and skills to create their own graphical resources
    • To strengthen the community by encouraging users to release original graphical content
    • To diversify the games produced by the community by empowering users to create unique graphics for their own games
    • To teach and encourage users to look at graphics with a critical eye and provide constructive and valuable feedback

    Structure

    • Weekly or Bi-weekly challenges will be posted by Thalzon or myself (needles / amanda), each one complemented by a relevant small tutorial/lesson
    • Challenges will range from small activities to the creation of full resources; depending on the associated lesson
    • Challenges will be posted in an order that presents a learning curve; new challenges will build off of knowledge presented in previous ones
    • Challenges will not “close” or “end”; new users are encouraged to begin from the first challenge at any time
    • No deadlines; no prerequisites to progress. Any user may participate in any challenge at any time
    • There will be no “pass or fail”, no “winners or losers”; every participant will receive constructive criticism on his or her entries

    Criticism

    • Participants should expect to receive criticism! Do not take harsh words personally—use the knowledge to improve your skills. It is intended to help and teach!
    • The reward for participation in any challenge will be honest and encouraging criticism of the entry
    • All criticism will be made public so that users can learn from each other and build off of each other
    • Entries can and will be edited by others in order to illustrate suggestions for improvement. Do not watermark any entries
    • Anybody can provide critique—and is encouraged to do so. Critique your fellow participants’ entries; looking at the work of others with a critical eye will help improve your own work.
  2. Cool stuff, I plan on receiving plenty of harsh words when I can participate haha.
  3. I don't think I'll ever be a big spriter, but learning the basic of something is never wasted time. Count me in!
  4. Do not take harsh words personally
What in god's green hell is that supposed to mean? You harpy! Spewing this poison into mine ear.

    Challenge accepted!
  5. You can count me in, sounds fun.

  7. Well I know I could definitely benefit from this. :)
  8. Count me in, i would like to improve my skills in graphics / pixelart.
  9. If I had had Internet I would have replied to this sooner, definitely will try it out.
  10. Sounds good, how do I sign up?
  11. You just pick a challenge and start doing it, there's no official sign up required!
  12. Sadly i won't even bother entering, cause i don't take criticism well... for me art has no rules.. art just is... so when i get people nitpicking my things apart.. it does not serve to make me better at it, it serves to knock me down several pegs and just throw my hands up and quit.
  13. ok

If people's opinions bother you so much, then you're not cut out for the internet, let alone art. If art just... is... then people's opinions should have 0 effect. Unless art DOES have rules (which it does) and you being bad just eats you up inside so you throw up this air of superiority via "art just is, there are no rules. Therefore I can't be bad." just to make yourself have good feels.

I second this. Why post if you're disinterested? If you're not interested then just refrain from posting.
  17. I agree with you guys but the point has been made!

Lets avoid steering this topic further off-track.
  18. I guess I'm a bit late but why not eh?

This is gonna be fun!! :)

Haha! Even later! I might join in... Though I'm not too interested in the "art" aspect of this art... I'm much more interested in the code... Which, I might add, I consider an art in itself. And the writing. So... Writing. Writing the systems and writing the plots. LOL.

But learning to do hackably decent resources on my own can only be a good thing.
  20. I will join :D i like to be able to make spirites :D ..Ummm what programs will i need to enter :( .. Before i join
