Palette problem

  1. Thanks in advance for your help!

I am currently trying to fit XP sized characters in the VX Ace settings by using the Game Character Generator.  As you can see, it's going swimmingly.  However I notice a huge eyeball issue in that the palette of my created characters are always much more washed out than the characters and the backdrops from VX Ace.  I have tried googling and looking on Youtube, but there is very little info out there on the GCG.

Can anyone tell me how I can match the palette of my created character to that of the VX Ace assets so that I can have tall characters with nice vibrant outfits that fit in their settings?

  2. I don't think using GCH to do this kind of modification is going to be your best option.  It'll be much easier and faster to use an art program like GIMP or Photoshop.  There are a few ways to do it.  One way is to open both the sprite you want to change and the sprite that has the coloring you want to change it to.  Then you use the eyedropper and whatever tool lets you replace all of one color (this varies from program to program) and just replace the colors with the colors from the other sprite.  It's actually a lot less complicated than it sounds.  Another way is to use filters to adjust it, levels, brightness, contrast, saturation, until you get the look you want.  Or you could just pick the colors yourself, and change them in a similar manner to the first method.
  3. Ok, thanks.  The first method you mentioned is the one I assumed would be the most difficult, so I'll just go ahead and try that.  I was hoping since I could save a palette right in the generator I could also just pick those colors when going to set them, but that didn't seem to be the case.
  4. Yeah, I wish it did that too.  Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll be added in a future update.
  5. Taking your advice, here is what I've done so far.   Any feedback is greatly appreciated.   I'm hoping I'm on the right track.  Sometimes when I look at it it looks matched, other times it still looks off....

**Edit** Just in case I'm unclear, the larger character is the only thing I've recolored so far.

  6. Well, you're not going to get the sprites to go together, the style is just too different, but the XP sprite looks better with the Ace tiles now.
  7. Yeah, the VX Ace sprite is just there as a reference and I think is the only thing throwing me off now, I just needed to get another set of eyes on the colors to make sure everything is working.   Thanks a ton for your help.
