Overlord MV game?

  1. So apparently since Enterbrain publishes the Overlord light novel series in Japan, it seems they thought it would be a good idea to put up a free RPGMaker MV game for download available on their website (along with a browser-based version) to promote it along with the currently running new anime.

Anybody actually tried it? If so, how does it stack up to other high-profile MV titles? I might be wrong, but this is probably the highest-profile MV game I've noticed in a while - at the very least, it's one of the only ones that seem to have gotten attention on non-RPGMaker-specific sites.

    EDIT:

So far, I'm spotting recolored Moghunter HUDs, FSM/Refmap tilesets, monster sprites recycled from VX/Ace and - gawd %$#* it - that's the same victory fanfare by Wingless Seraph that I was planning on using.

Plenty of add-ons to the stock menu system, but still identifiably the stock menu system except with the glaring omission of any actors levels or EXP bars, which leaves quite a big blank space in the status screen.
  2. Haha I saw this last night and got an good chuckle out of it. It looks and plays all right. Can't say much on the story though seeing as it's in Kanji.
  3. lol this feels a bit awkward xD

I actually don't watch this show, but I saw this on a news site and thought it was worth sharing.
I also found a recent trend of many Japanese RPG Maker games, even commercial ones, have dreadful mapping. But this has decent presentation. But they probably should have edited Moghunter's UI to match the series's tone more.

I just find it bizarre that someone used RPG Maker for an official tie-in game. At least that makes it easy to fan-translate.
  5. Kanji? I guess I'm gonna wait the eng ver, that is if it's really going to happen.
  6. I saw this earlier but didn't post about it.... But yeah, anyone who knows RPG Maker MV can tell when Mog's HUDs are used in a mostly unedited state...

  8. I gave it a downloaded out of curiosity and thought it was a neat thing just to see/have as a rpg maker fan. I can't read any of it though so it will be interesting to try and make my way through.
  9. Not trying to be rude or anything, but I feel like CH doesn't know how to use RPGM.
  10. it's one of the only ones that seem to have gotten attention on non-RPGMaker-specific sites.

Ofc it will, its a game adaptation of overlord and its made by EB which has a lot of ties with the game and light novel/manga industry (at least in Japan) so its pretty easy for them to get the word out to the press and so on if they wanted to.

Plus they get to promote both products so its a win-win for EB, and its parent Kadokawa, if it goes well.

Compile Heart released a side game for an RPG they made using MV as well: http://www.compileheart.com/derq/info/?page=endquest

I saw this awhile back; honestly the game looked really phoned in or it looked like someone who just wasn't familiar with rpg maker; granted its some pre-order bonus right so it might very well just have meant to have been a quick thing for them. This project looks at least like it was done with knowledge about the communities assets/the maker in mind; which I think is a better representation of it anyway.
  12. @TakeHomeTheCup & @Vox Novus - I didn't say it was good, I just mentioned that a dev company decided to use RPG Maker as a side game.

Personally (as a fan of CH), I found it amusing. When the Overlord one came out, I found it more interesting. XD
