Another perspective on the traditional RPG genre! Play as the bad guy! Kidnap the Princess! Fight the hero(s)!
A half-satire, half-traditional RPG adventure that questions the very concept of Good vs Evil!

    Background:

    Spoiler
In the beginning, God created the world. And everything in it. He created it for his amusement, and enjoyed watching the humans building cities, trading goods and generally working together and stuff.
But as time passed, the humans started to argue and fight; Countries warred with each other. God didn't want that, but he also didn't want to take away the human's free will, and so he came up with a plan.

He created demons that threatened the very existence of the humans, and thus the humans united as one against this common enemy. Warriors were born and tested, Heroes slayed Demon Lords and vice versa.

Recently, the latest Dark Lord was slain by the Heroes of Light. An era of peace descended upon the world... or did it?
    The World:

    Spoiler
CountriesThe World (that's its name) is divided among four major powers.

Redland: A place of heroes, warriors and glory, since many generations of Dark Lords have lived there. It is currently at war with Bluland.

Bluland: A technological superpower, relying on complex machines rather than hardened soldiers. Dwarfland is located here.

Yelland: Merchants and practitioners of fine arts gather here to sell their trade. Home to the elusive ninjas.

Whiteland: Untamed and untouched, anyone who has tried to invade has failed spectacularly. Elfland exists somewhere in this wilds. Currently in a Magic vs Magick civil war.

If I've missed anyone please inform me and I'll add it asap.

    Demo:

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/d5o7jwth6bvmsay/ogae.exe
I've checked through the game for game breakers and english errors, but since this is a one-man job, I probably missed something.

Feel free to PM me with your feedback, comments.

Things I'm particularly requesting play testers to give feedback on:

    1) Battle system: Is it too easy, too hard? Should I scale the damages and HP down for more control over damage?

    2) Comedy vs Drama: Too stupid to be playable? Screw the emo scenes, IMMA DARK LORD!!!...?

    3) Bugs: Just let me reach for that spray

For #2, it probably won't change any part of the demo, but I'll keep it in mind while writing/eventing the rest of the game

    Developer's Commentary/Rant:

    Spoiler
There are many RPG games out there that parody the traditional RPG, usually taking things to extreme or exact opposites (e.g "You are NOT the Hero" by Don Manalili, great game).

Much used is the standard parody tool of "fourth-wall" breaking such as the player shouting "level up!" when he levels, or talking to the narrator.

With this game (my first btw) I'm trying to achieve the same effect without breaking the fourth-wall too much, so this game is more of a satire than a straight out parody, questioning RPG conventions without straight out slapping it in the face.

Standard stuff are still parodied, but fit into the world (albeit roughly) as part of the lore and may even feature as major plot points, for example: Fear the slimes.

Anyhoo, I've dabbled a little of comedy and drama in this game, which is still very^10 incomplete, so when the demo is out, feel free to tell me your preferences and I'll rebalance the amount.

(So far its about 80% parody 20% drama)
  2. If I may ask, what are you trying to set apart from other games like this?

(As a note from me, i don't know if the swearing words disclaimer shouldn't be a thing or not in your post, but that's just me)

(And your graphics are really nice too. I would like to play this when it's all said and done)
  3. It looks like you're putting quite a lot of work into this. It looks cool. Just for the record though, 'playing as the bad guy' is definitely not a 'new perspective'. And generally, it's quite boring, since evil is preternaturally a shallow perspective to view events from. Just my own personal opinion, of course.

Better to have ambiguity, with seemingly 'evil' acts actually having a purpose; i.e. "I burned down the village because actually everyone who lived there carried a contagion that could have wiped out the rest of the world".

I do want to add on this a bit more, you seem to have some interesting ideas with the screenshots, but the thing that gets me is the names of the continents. I would sincerely say that they need a bit of work, if they aren't your final names, then disregard this.

Yep the standard 'evil' perspective is shallow as you said, and and burning down a village to save the world is technically a 'good (debatable)' thing, but I'm going for more like "Dark Lord turns the village into undead zombies because he wants an evil army but the side effect is that they don't die from the contagion.". Its gonna be hard to make the characters likable in this regard, but I'll try my best.

Hm. The continent names are mostly on purpose :p to make fun of the fact that a light-hearted RPG like this has little backstory and the player doesn't really care about place names (they will be like: oh I'm in dungeon #1, or dungeon #2 etc)

More name like this was planned (Sea of Water, Random Forest) but if there's really a problem with it I can change the names. I would like for more opinions on this though.

I see, I see! This is according to plot..? As long as it makes sense then.
