Not Receiving Email Notifications

  1. I've followed several threads on here, but I don't receive emails when someone comments on them in spite of my notification settings. I don't get on-site notifications for those comments either, though I do for the stuff that I'm supposed to. Is anyone else having this problem?
  2. I've had that problem for 3 months now. I somehow don't think the site is sending them out anymore.

Nope, it's your Hotmail email address. Switch emails and you'll be fine. Our server sends them, your provider just filters us out.
  4. I see. I think this has something to do with Microsoft acquiring Hotmail too.
  5. Its funny that everyone jumps to accuse Hotmail, as everyone *else* can email them, but it goes to the spam filter (for instance I got the IGMC contest coupon just fine, etc). I would honestly check something on your end, because if everyone else can email Hotmail, the problem is you, not Hotmail.

But then again, I'm not too worried about getting the notices either, I found a workaround (filters->topics I posted on works just fine, as it shows me all those I haven't read yet that I've posted on), so I've never reported it for that reason. Keeps my inbox from clogging up. So if you do ever find a way to fix it I'd probably just stick with them off as this works just fine for me.

Something on our end? When everyone without Hotmail gets emails except people with weird .edu email addresses from time to time? How is that something on our end? It sounds like Hotmail to me if it's mostly JUST Hotmail not getting emails...

I'll be reaching out to them in the not too distant future to see if they can fix their obvious blacklist against our forum IP address.

In the mean time, I'd suggest getting a different email provider anyway.

TL;DR: Yes, it is in fact Hotmail and people with obscure email services (such as college email addresses). Such services have our forum IP address blacklisted for some reason. I will be trying to get them to remove the blacklist, but I have no control over their poor choices/filtering methods. If you need a fix now, change your email address to something that uses a better blacklist method (and doesn't have us blocked).
  7. I'm just saying, I get emails from all other websites but yours (even weird .edu's), so its funny you jump up and blame Hotmail like that. You think you accidentally got on their block list or something? That's the only other way it would make sense.

Yeah, it's hilarious. But it's fact. It IS Hotmail. I don't know why they blacklisted the IP. Probably their crappy/unmodern methods of filtering/blacklisting. Just my opinion of course :)
  9. Musta happened in mid August, as that is when I stopped getting notices.

Still, here is a work around for those affected (without changing accounts). You can still see who posted on topics you posted on by clicking on view new content, then select under filter only items I participate in. That will show you all posts you have posted on, and you can see which ones have new posts that way. I set the time to show back to last 2 weeks, so that if I go a while without logging in I can more easily find them.

It won't help if someone Necroposts, but it will work for the most part.
  10. Yeah, there's work around's but I can't help but imagine it would be annoying to people. I also have to manually activate accounts that try to register with Hotmail.

We'll get it sorted eventually. When the forums move to a different server we'll be getting a new IP address and shouldn't be blacklisted just on the IP level.
  11. Um... I have Gmail, guys. And there's nothing in Spam, so I must just not be getting notifications.

You have a .edu email address tied to your account... Does your college use Google Apps or is your email forwarded to a gmail address? Because any emails you'd get from the forum certainly aren't going to an @gmail.com address directly.
  13. Oh, there's the answer. It should be @gmail.com instead of @wright.edu. No wonder I haven't been getting notifications. That address is a hybrid that doesn't even exist. Problem solved. Thanks.
