Hi there.
I was wondering if it is possible to make an RPG game without making profit. Because I'm planning to make a game that's not only for fun, but suitable for kids and adults.

Hey, me too! Anyway, I think there are fair number of developers already that are trying a hand at non-commercial games, so it's very much possible.
-
You assume that RM is only for professional dev, no, RM is actually for hobbyist. The question would be better in reverse, how to sell the game, not the opposite.
-
Ive released 2 free games so far. Its a good way of learning. Id recommend all new devs get a few small freebies out in the open as a learning experience before trying to tackle something that costs money to play.

It's very easy to make a game and not make any money. Most people actually strive to do the opposite. :p -
Is it possible to make a game without making a profit?
:guffaw:
I hate to break it to you, but when it comes to being a solo or even small team indiedev, even when you release your game commercially, just breaking even is no guarantee. Between purchasing the engine, your internet connection, DLC purchases, & vendor fees, just breaking even is an accomplishment.
If you do turn a profit, making more than "beer money", is exceptionally rare.
If you can divide the number of hours you worked on your project, versus your total gross revenue, & you're doing better than your average Nike child sweatshop worker, you're well ahead of the curve.
If you can divide the number of hours you worked on your project, versus your actual net profit, & you have a rate equivalent to working a drive thru window at McDonalds, you're in the top tier. -
It is possible to make a non-profit game. Whether you sell it or not depends only on you and you alone, so if you want to make a non-profit game, by all means go for it. As already mentioned, it's a good way to learn as well.

It is very possible to make a non profit game, just put it out for free! It is also very possible for you to lose money making games, you can put in $1000 into making it and still not earn a profit. XDD
Maybe non profit, may also mean donating all the money to charity. In that case that's mostly on how good your disipline is. If you advertise that all money goes to a good cause, you'll have to make sure all the money goes to the right place other wise its a scam and clearly illegal. -
This made me smile.
But I think as @dragoonwys says, the OP is asking if it's possible to make a game and then give proceeds to charity. -
Thank you, everyone. Reason is, I'm not here to make money, I'm here just to make games. Something players would enjoy.

Again, RM is for hobbyist to begin with, it just everything went commercial after 2012 (or 2013) when people began to sell everything, started from arabian / japanese tileset iirc. Before that, many of RM games and assets were free. People did what you want to do. You can try to look at rpgmaker.net, there're tons of free RM games. Nowdays people began to associate RM as money making game engine, and the first question that the new RM user would ask usually would be "Can I sell my game?". You're the outliner.

that moment when you know Nintendo has a whole market dedicated to that same target.....Because I'm planning to make a game that's not only for fun, but suitable for kids and adults.

I guess we both have a common goal. Don't know how else to respond to that statement.that moment when you know Nintendo has a whole market dedicated to that same target.....
